some interesting specimens in (or recently) in market: Sacalia bealei, Sacalia quadriocellata, Platysternon megacephalum, Chinemys reevesi, Phrynops hilarii, Podocnemis cayennensis, Kinotesteron subrubrum steindachneri.. |

how long had the tortoises survive in captivity? 95% star hatchling died in captivity within 6 months..
get bigger one, 3-4 inches. more expensive but chances of survival is better. |

QUOTE(choyster @ Dec 12 2007, 03:40 PM) as with almost all american emydidae (sliders, cooters, maps, etc), res's shell will lose their attractive markings and bright green color, becoming less pretty as they grow.this is their blessing and also their curse... people gets attracted by their bright color and take them as pets when they are small, only to become bored when those res turns into big unattractive turtles. QUOTE wow.... take how long to get to that size....? drool.gif spend 5 digits and you won't have to wait This post has been edited by camillenoir: Dec 12 2007, 03:58 PM |

QUOTE(inexsis @ Dec 13 2007, 01:36 AM) kinda interesting to build taman (heaven~~) for my star tortoise..... at that size, it is practically unsafe to keep them outdoors. smaller stars could easily get sick by our extra humid climate here. heheheheheheheheh about the size.....most of pet shop i tgk jual dlm rm120-rm130.... is it the right size n price ? best way is to keep them indoors but let them roam your lawn several times weekly for sun and grazing. |

QUOTE(drexar @ Dec 16 2007, 07:28 PM) the enclosure looks like it is too small. it might look big enough in relation to the size of the tortoise, but bigger enclosures should be used. the little ones face the risk of being dehydrated if basking lamp is utilised, as there are not much ground for the little ones to hide/run from the heat. diet.. i think uzairi told you already QUOTE(drexar @ Dec 16 2007, 07:28 PM) they need basking spot my friend.. otherwise all kinds of problem could arise. |

60 minutes sun bath time does not equate to basking spot.. the turtles should be allowed to dry themselves off on basking spots whenever they want.
and speaking of 60 minutes of sunbaths, too long exposure to too hot temperature could fry them. |

QUOTE(andrewnib @ Dec 22 2007, 12:53 AM) question: do they eat the green (bitter) pellets? i'm not sure why sera did that (put in some extremely bitter pellets instead of mixing small quantities of the bitter ingredients into 'normal' pellets) but most tortoises will avoid the green ones. if any of the important nutrients is contained exclusively in the bitter pellets, the diet would be imbalanced then. |

QUOTE(sayasebuk @ Dec 26 2007, 11:59 AM) i sampled enough brands to conclude which tortoises/turtles love which.. example: stars are more attracted to sweet smell and bright colors, no matter how bland the food might taste; elongated and forstenii are not as easily fooled by colors/smell etc etc etc QUOTE(mamba @ Dec 26 2007, 12:40 PM) im not surprise..camillenoir is not a real human everything tastes like candy when hayden's on screen |

any breeding projects involving her and me would only produce 'camillettiere'
speaking of those babies, i suspect that they are indeed more carnivorous than vegan (a valid reason for any personable chelonian with that kind of temperament to reject bananas and tomatoes is they do not recognize fruits as food item). mealworms and prawns should be fine. the only problem is i'm still stuck at client's place this very moment and couldn't go shop for those food items. |
