Hi all,

My car is a 22 year old Iswara. It has been functioning well until i change the timing belt due to oil leak. Now oil leak stops, but the engine keeps on having "wuu...." sound whenever i step on the gas pedal (80% always like that).

Got any recommended mechanic shop around PJ area that you all can introduce?

check the belt tentioning of all your belts.

Noted.

Last time i did ask the mechanic, but he say all still in good condition, but i have quietly slated the change of other belts in a few months time. I will move up the changing schedule then.

May i know which belt i should change? I mean the terms for it.

Note: timing belt was changed recently.

best to check, i can't comment.

=edit=
additionally, check the tentioner bearing.

when change timing belt, bearing/belt/2 seals will be included in proton ori timing belt kit.
*
I think that bearing was changed together earlier on when timing belt is changed.

Maybe i ask the mechanic to put back to old bearing and see if it got sound or not.

The new bearing that i got is kinda cheap one, not sure if that is the 1 giving problem or not.

Apparently, one of the bearing is having problem. It has been changed and no more weird sound.

Thus far, i only need to add gearbox oil as i know it is leaking. But how i can add for compressor oil?

Good to hear your issue resolve.

For compressor oil,  usually it cycle through a machine,  along with compressor gas. And it tops up (both gas and oil) both as needed according to specifications.
*
If the compressor oil leaked, what is the impact?

Is it possible to just top it up like the gearbox oil over a period of time?

eventually you'll need to replace compressor or worse, if the internal damage is too much it may contaminate the entire aircond system and you'll have to replace everything.

price for compressor is ~700-900.
for entire system is around 2-2.5k

Hangus la dream to upgrade my other stuff.

Have to provision against this.

By the way, what i understand from the mechanic is that it is not the main compressor body leaking, but one of the valve or something.

Hi guys,

Was just wondering if Iswara cannot start. Battery sound ok. Starter sound like "eh..eh..eh..eh..eh" also sounded strong (not like dying sound). but just keep on like that "eh..eh..eh..eh..eh.." but engine did not come to life.. What can be the issues?

I have a feeling the battery is not weak because when I take off one cable and try to put it back, it surely feel like magnet when it touch the battery terminal (quite strong) and also got a bit of spark before touching. Last time i have one dying battery which when almost dead, will not have this 'magnet' effect anymore.
So I don't really think the battery is the problem.

(Petrol is still a bit below half the last time i check, so it is not no petrol also)

Have current may not mean it is having sufficient current to power up your car. Maybe ask any one to help you to jump start the car and see?

I have to change another alternator today. It is the third or 4th alternator in 2 years. They keep on saying got oil leak that is seeping into the alternator. This cause it unable to charge the battery and i have to swap for another 1.

Is there anyway to get rid of the oil in the alternator? Everytime change also RM3xx. Very painful for my wallet. doh.gif

Thanks a lot. Good thing i kept those alternators instead of leaving them in the shop that i repair.

I hope they also can check up the compressor oil etc.

I kinda prefer to drive this car until i got very rich. Otherwise, i won't be changing car for quite some time.

can potentially sell for profit! or keep as spare! biggrin.gif

do share your concern with that shop and see how it goes.
update us also and who knows if some member here may want a spare alternator or something wink.gif

For now, i left with 2 (including today 1).

I will find a free time to go and get it repaired just in case. The current alternator have 3 months warranty though.

Sharing is caring, so i will let u know the result. smile.gif

BTW, do you know any car "boneyard" that i can get used stuff such as used auto gearbox??

I am surprised that oil leaks can affect the alternator. I had oil leaks too, from
the rocker cover seal, but it does not reach the alternator which is located away
from the engine. Or is oil leaking from the power steering pump? Even then,
these two leaks can be repaired (rocker seal is cheap and easily replaced). Any
traces of the oil seepage tracks?
*
I just had my engine washed yesterday. I'll go back to check where is the oil leaks locations.

Previously, the under the main gasket side. Maybe need to consider doing overhaul.

thanks.

i dont have much connections with half cut shops and as a matter of fact i am looking for them to obtain a particular socket for my inspira or even possibly a manual gearbox for my iswara lol sad.gif

Same here. If i manage to get some connections, i'll PM you. smile.gif

Today the mechanic shop inform me a few things:

1. Distributor in the engine is leaking oil. It does not impact other engine component. Hence, not planning on repairing it.

2. Power sterling pump is leaking and it is impacting the alternator. In long run, it will still cause the alternator to fail. It is recommended to fix it. True?

3. Air con compressor confirm faulty. I prefer to replace it. How much it is gonna cost? Last time i learnt it is RM900. shakehead.gif shakehead.gif shakehead.gif

1) can consider change the distributor o ring.

2) AFAIK la, you pour water or oil on the damn distributor, it shouldn't affect.
bear in mind it is exposed and rain water easily splashes it.
still, it is best to fix any leaks as they are not good.

3) ori denso is 800-1k. consider getting that, and before installing it, ENSURE the entire system is cleaned out with chemicals so that no debris/dirt will contaminate/accelerate degradation of the new compressor. else you would be potentially wasting your money.

chances are once the compressor goes dead, most likely the entire air cond system gets contaminated with it's sludge/metal wear etc
*
You mean alternator? IMO, rain water not like oil. Oil tend to accumulate and hard to get it off.

Quite painful for that compressor. Wallet hurts..... cry.gif cry.gif cry.gif

Distributor u can consider change only when u have difficulties to start when stall.

Mine was leak till inside, so replace O ring also no use.

Changed mine around RM390
*
As in having difficulty in starting when start the engine? My car sometime start the engine, but very weak and tend to turn off itself at first attempt. The 2nd attempt only can stable.

Yes.

If very freq, better get it change.

Me when driving, suddenly will stall. Then need to take long time- bout 5 minutes to get it start.

If u buy, dont take those taiwan or recon unit - wont last long but is cheap around RM1xx
*
Wallet hurts.......

What is the primary causes for all these leakages? Rough driving by previous owners?

wear and tear?

Mine lasted since 2003 - new car, changed it in 2014.

It is an old car. Nothing much to say.

Anyway, when you mean stall, what u mean by stall? When driving halfway then engine turn off by itself?

U sure the sound coming from the timing belt? Usually seems more like from the alternator belt or fan belt etc..
*
not sure though. I'll get the mechanic to change the belts then.

This kind of situation means the belts are not in good condition and may snap any moments?

Hi Guys,

Last time when i am driving the car,i feel that my car does not have enough propulsion when stepping on the gas pedal when the engine first started.

I suspect that the gearbox oil leaking is causing the issue as lesser oil in the gearbox, but the mechanic told me that the gear oil level is still above minimum range and it is not a cause for concern. Kind of action i can take to check on this?
