Gtx970 worth to own?
Z5, currently not yet have GTX 980.
*
It is worth it if you are not planning to buck up a lot for the highest end gpu. gtx970m can let you play most game on ultra settings 1080p already.
FYI, if you want gtx980m, the cost will probably increase by RM1.2k to 2k.

who know how to disable cpu turbo boots by default when startup ?Because everytime startup is enabled
i searched a lot,by change on "changed advanced power setting" is not efficiency .I was looking to configure on BIOS but i did not see anywhere having the option.
Does anyone know other way to disable ?Because i wonder when i want to playing high performance game i just enable by myself on FN+9 and normally all the is browsering so no necessary have to enable it.
*
I think you pm-ed me before ? You need to pm or email ILLEGEAR to know the way to configure it through BIOS.
I remember Prince J mentioned it before. Pm Prince J
IMHO, I will not turn on Intel Turbo Boost even I'm playing game. Most game will not require the extra clockspeed except games like BF4 64 man map, it will just make your laptop hotter. (Most game is gpu dependent, seldom game is utilizing cpu > gpu)

The easiest way is to set the power settings. This is what I will do if I'm going to turn of ITB by default:
Select Balanced Mode, change its power option to 99%. Leave High Performance as default.
I will use Balanced Mode as my default mode, for normal usage purpose. So everytime you switch on your laptop, it will be around 2.4ghz. When you want to game, switch to High Performance to achieve the extra frequency.

P.S: Personally, I find it better to switch off the ITB using Fn + 9. Maybe I'm used to it already. lol

haha ok. Every time switch off feel annoying .i will try to use option to 99% on my high performance mode.i feel that no necessary need ITB while gaming ,it just will make it more heat LOL while i playing assassin unity .
hmm,how to totally turn off the backlit keyboard light ?
*
Kindly refer to first page for all the shortcut keys reference.
Fn + spacebar = off / on / max backlid light
Button besides M1 macro key (left hand side) = off macro keys + back "logo" light

What GPU are you using ? GTX960m or 860m is not high end gpu, so I think around there should be fine.
It is better to do a benchmark and view the score, rather than depending on the score displayed by Windows

You're using Windows 8 or 8.1 right ? If I'm not mistaken, there is an issue in Windows 8 or 8.1 regarding this. Try searching Google to see if there is a fix.

I think there is no point for us to be so angry. If there are less user, it doesn't matter us also. People will judge it once they actually use it for a long period of time.

The review doesn't matter to be honest, it is not from a reputation reviewer also. I will go for LINUS or similar reviewer to get a better non biased review. If people feels that Z5 is not a good machine after reading it, they just miss out one very good laptop, that's all. We didn't loss anything from it, we can actually laugh at them for missing out a good option. haha

But I do agree, when I first receive my Z5, the hinge and the material really don't impress me. It feels cheap and not solid enough. That is my first impression, but after using it for about 6 months, it is pretty good if you manage your laptop well.

P.S: The reviewer clearly doesn't know what to review about the laptop. If it is linus, he will at least mention its sub-woofer, gaming temperature, customize-ability, battery etc etc.
P.S.S: There is also one thing I agree with the reviewer, the USB port tends to have issue when I'm connecting to external HDD. It will keep disconnect and reconnect. Prince J is this normal ? I remember I had pointed it out to you when I visited you at Damansara to have my screen changed to IPS. That time I'm using an external optical drive to show you.

Well, I both agree and disagree.
If you look at this forum as a benchmark, there are a lot of associated problems with the Z5, particularly when it comes to USB and some static noise, that is.

What I think should be addressed, if the writer really want to "taruk",

can be something like

"just look into our forums and see how people complain!" (not like no complain, even I complain. LOL)
this one it says

"its not as cheap as Acer Nitro V, and not as bling bling good like Alienware..."
I'm like... dafuq?

Is there a "MAINSTREAM" manufacturer that gives high end blinged out gaming specs with dirt cheap price (I know ada lubang kiri kanan, if you can get lubang from Clevo very nice also).. but? retailers prices can't match that, can it?
*
I still don't get why is there a need to be so offended, especially from a not well known reviewer or review site. I don't even know the review if Arvi haven't pointed out in here. I think there is no need to be so angry, I doubt people will take into consideration for reading the review (at least not a big portion compared to notebookcheck etc)

AW is a PREMIUM grade laptop, so its price will be higher. Just like the HP Omen while Z5 can be considered consumer grade. Both are in two different category. I personally tried the HP Omen and I can ensure you the material is really better than Z5.

Just ignore the review, no point arguing in a review which hardly can get 10k++ viewer sweat.gif

guys calm down, dont need to be so angry, Illegear wont give you prize for that, haha just kidding. you use it and you like it ,thats all it matters! but for me, you get what you paid for, and i am satisfied every penny i spent on it.

Hi miong93,

If I remember correctly your external HDD is a desktop version with enclosure, the Z5 3.0 USB port doesn't have enough power to load desktop grade external HDD.

Try using smaller external drive like WD passport to connect to the charging USB.
*
I think I didn't use an external HDD to show you during my visit at the showroom. I used an external optical drive to show you the usb issue. It is a normal laptop optical drive in a caddy bay. My friend 2 years old laptop have no problem powering it up (plug and play) tho.

I also tested with other normal external HDD (which is not a desktop version with enclosure), it sometimes is able to detect the external hdd, but sometime it will keep disconnect and reconnect back. Like what the "review" mentioned.

I feels that it is maybe an hardware flaw. But I don't know whether it is covered in the warranty or not. Since there will hardly be any replacement of component for me already (since it need to change the whole mobo). cry.gif

Please tell me what I should do now ? Cause I find it quite tough for me to be away from my Z5 as it needs it for work purpose.

nampak macam my case nie>>>>>i used to have this problem with right two usb ports..then it became worse and all usb ports can work except 2.0 usb port...then change mobo..settled
*
Mine happen since day 1 I receive my Z5. Last time I showed Prince J, he use his iphone to test the usb port, and it works. So I assume it should be no problem (we didn't test external HDD)
But it is not the case, external HDD and now even my Samsung S5 have issue in it already. It will disconnect and reconnect on a random occasion when I plugged in the usb cable (samsung cable and external HDD cable)
It happens most of the time but on some rare case it won't happen. Very weird sweat.gif

Hi Miong,

That sounds pretty much like the Z5 USB 3.0 port doesn't have enough power supply for your USB device, can you send to us for tests?

I suggest you to try what kenny suggest, use 2 ports for connecting the power demanding USB device.
*
Unfortunately I tried those option, still the same. Also I find it quite weird for an old laptop to be able to power-up an external HDD without problem but for my newer Z5 with better power capacity and 8 cells to be unable to power up an external HDD yet along required to use a 2 USB cable to power it up. I'm not complaining tho just feel it is a weird case. sweat.gif

May I know is it possible I delay sending my machine to you guys first ? Cause I am planning to send it to you guys during June to have you guys repaste my thermal compound and check my USB + machine together.
What I afraid is if I delay sending my Z5 to you guys for a check-up, you will "ignore" or not accept the issue.

QUOTE(zhiyuanchan @ May 12 2015, 12:05 AM)
I also have this issue with Right hand near the audio port , when plug in connect with iPhone 6 , keep connect and disconnect. Is that hardware flaw?  hmm.gif
*
I feel you bro. Weird right ? Having no problem on Pendrive but Smartphone, External HDD and External Optical drive is having this issue. It mostly is due to not enough power supplied to the USB, but how come an old laptop is able to do those with a lower Cells and capacity battery. hmm.gif haha

Err siFus. I bought it and becoz i M busy with work. i can hav my first touch on the laptop.i hav my own external dvd drive. Window 8.1pro  dvd (in iso file).

I try to install the os but it doesnt work..(can some1 point out whats wrong with it) is it i must install os through thumb drive?
*
If I'm not mistaken, you need to burn/extract the ISO file into your disc so it becomes bootable. I think it won't run the file if you just simply copy and paste the iso file into the cd and run it.

DOTA SS on semi-heavy load. Not streaming, 1080p, Nvidia 960m 4gb, turbo boost+ full fan speed. Temperature around 68c. Average FPS 39-43

Win7 enterprise. 960m Driver 350.12.
*
Well it is a weird case I believe. First, what game are you playing ? normal pub/mmr or local lobby ?
I encountered something similar with my gtx860m Z5. When I host local lobby game, my fps will be around 55-60fps. But during normal pub match, it is a constant 60fps (i used v-sync)
Temperature wise it is around there, 65-70c
I know it is a bit illogical, but maybe it is also part of an issue of OS ? Cause I seldom see people game on enterprise version of OS. I believe the driver is different from convention OS version. (But it is UNLIKELY the causes)

P.S: Dota 2 is more CPU intense, try checking whether your CPU or GPU is throttling or not. Also, may I know what software you use for the fps record ? Sometimes those tool will also cause your fps to drop. If you're playing dota, just use the console command to switch on the ingame fps display. It is better to use built in tools than 3rd party's

It's steam built in FPS. Net_graph also shows the same. Really weird case since if I benchmark 3dmax will get 65-130fps easily. I usually play fighting games so I benchmarked on USFIV and got 130fps on absolutely maximum settings. Even on MKX I can play Ultra rather smoothly. CS:GO rather stable at 90-120.

The only way I can break 60fps on dota is on lower resolution which is not a good option, fullscreen (not suitable for streaming) and lower render till it looks like ps2 game.
*
This is a weird case tho. Dota 2 shouldn't be as demanding as MKX, gpu wise. Like I asked earlier, what type of game are you playing ? Are you hosting a lobby with your Z5 and streaming at the same time ? If it is then the fps will probably drop cause of that. Dota 2 is more CPU demanding.

Sometimes fps will drop if you play it in windowed mode or borderless mode. It is better to play it on fullscreen mode. You should be able to play it on ultra settings (everything maxed). Even my gtx860m can handle it except when I'm hosting local lobby match with my Z5.

I don't think so. Even gtx980 struggle to get 60fps in Witcher 3 ultra settings FHD.

P.S: Do note it is gtx980, not 980m

GTA V Working fine for me in medium high settings on Z5 GTX860M version. Im getting 30 to 40 fps in game. So which means of course GTX960M will be able to play GTA V in high/ultra settings.
*
gtx960m is a rebrand of gtx860m with slight tweak. So it won't be able to handle high/ultra settings I believe.

Sorry I misread that as 960M. :'( Anyway if anyone is capable to run full settings at 60 fps (5x-60) in DotA 2 with 860M please share your settings.
*
First question, are you playing pub/MMR game or LOCAL LOBBY ?
If you're testing using local lobby most probably is due to that, since you're hosting the game on your laptop.. I encounter this before, when I'm hosting local lobby my gameplay will not be smooth (it is still the same currently, i just give up on that since Prince J also couldn't find out the cause)
To be honest, dota 2 is more CPU intense than GPU intense.

I need some advice. It's hard to choose between z5 and Q5. Can some one advice me which 1 should i buy? I'm not a gaming type. Most of the game i play just simple game like PES. usually i use laptop for surfing, watch movie, do some office work and sometimes play game.

From illegear customize, i saw Q5 more focus on speaker, custom keyboard backlight color and killer wireless (i dont know if this wireless much better than intel dual band wireless). But z5 more good on grafic card and just have a white backlight keyboard color. personally i more like Q5 but from my reading here, many illigear choose z5 (so i guest z5 much better?).

p.s : if Q5 suitable for me, should i go for Q7 becoz the price different just rm1 ! Arghhh... headache.. icon_question.gif
*
Both are using gtx960m by default, but Z5 have gtx970m variant. If compare with the same variant (gtx960m), Z5 have better cooling and sub woofer, Q5 have more professional look and DVD drive.

It is up to your preference, if you're going to use the laptop to meet client, Z5 may not be suitable as it won't give your client a professional look.

The reason most of us choose Z5 is because it has better cooling.
