True, very rarely do we need to use the DVD Roms nowadays. So it's just sitting there taking up space for no reason.

Great, I'll try finding it around Penang/Kedah first since I'm from here. Thanks again man  rclxms.gif
Wow, now it's just RM520? It really have fallen quite much. But really, I as someone who have upgraded their 500GB HDD to 250GB SSD, really-really-really recommend the upgrade. Since now you can get a 500GB-ish SSD for around the price of 250GB SSD on 2013, I highly recommend it. The speed upgrade would be highly noticable.
*
Depends on Need vs Necessary, if one requires it desperately they will do that. As for now the hot weather, rm500 ish is already 50% of the price of an air cond and even if its a upgrade, people would opt for 240GB and a 1TB external hdd.

Stock spec is 4gb ram?
With 4500, at least you should get 8 gb of ram. 4gb is no longer huge for nowadays when comes to multitasking
*
You didn't know how much that piece of m2 pci-e 128gb value?

QUOTE(horns @ Apr 3 2016, 11:22 PM)
yes, good to go. please check and test the unit and make sure there is no defects.
1. no dead pixels on display panel;
2. all ports are working fine;
3. cpu/gpu temperatures are below 85c when playing games;
4. wifi/bt are good;
5. etc.

if all passed, then congratulations. your unit can probably last longer than you thought. if any of the above have issues, DO NOT go directly to ASUS service center. use the one-to-one exchange policy normally given by the shop that you made the purchase from, and repeat the checking process. (usually it's valid for 7 days. if the shop doesn't provide this, don't get it)

although personally i think g-series is good, asus service center is not. i cannot stand the way their service center treats us consumers here in Malaysia. the issue of their service center has been around for years. despite a very very small group of users who were lucky, the rest were not that lucky to have their devices fixed properly.

the service centers of other brands like acer and lenovo are getting much better. not as good as dell, but definitely better than asus.
*
There is no way to explain the Malaysia service centre, it depends on the laptop that you got upon your initial inspection @ the shop hands on. Dell still overthrow others service centre with their flexible and on the site service, but the parts they brought to you to replace tends to be certified refurbished parts sometimes.

Has any Asus ROG laptop G751JT bring for G-Sync upgrade program?
Is that his program available in Malaysia service centre?
*
Kindly do register your interest for arrangement to push them for the availability as of current "Currently, the G-sync upgrades has not been available in Singapore yet, and they are still in the middle of planning." from the higher ups in Asus.

You can find the thread in the ROG Forum: https://rog.asus.com/forum/showthread.php?8...s-Now-Available!

And DAT PRICING for the GX700 with water-cooling... shocking.gif
http://www.lowyat.net/2016/101266/local-re...op-at-rm-18999/
*
They're charging for the cost of R&D for all the trials and errors done in Asus R&D Lab and also that GTX 980 is equivalent to the desktop version which is currently popular i suspect that mxm card or customized pcb version(Asus is known in redesign in their own way in terms of laptop gpu) would cost a bomb already. sweat.gif
Until it is mainstream, it won't be so expensive.

Yeah, i'm guessing the pump and pipes system for the cooling which are detachable (Laptop and the cooling unit) are quite hard to design and manufacture... Didn't really gone to research about it yet but does it need refilling? I mean the cooling fluid...
*
I suspect it is working like existing Corsair H100i, thus no refilling unless the detachable units needs to be serviced like Car Coolant. I'm more concern on cleaning/dusting the radiator of the external unit which i need to find if there's any disassembly guide. thumbsup.gif

I believe it is expensive because they're the only one doing it. The technology was basically adopted from their Poseidon graphics card. Probably the next iteration or two would be more affordable, just like how razer's laptop dropped in price.
*
identical to poseidon, but poseidon connector is the standard water cooling head.
Most likely the amount of copper in this gx700 is a lot thus making the laptop itself a wholly 3.9KG, knowing why laptop nowadays are lightweight is due to usage of M2 PCIe SSD instead of 2.5 hdd, odd-less, and everything soldered on a PCB which make repairing it would change the entire motherboard.

We'll most likely see less MXM cards in the future.

I actually do hope Gaming Laptops are kept as modular as possible. People who uses gaming laptop usually have more tendency to open the laptop themselves to do some DIY cleaning or upgrading.
*
That tradition will continue as long as Clevo is still in the business, else you'll see modularity in laptop goes extinct and everything goes soldered.

It seems Asus quietly released this new laptop, GL502VT

https://www.asus.com/ROG-Republic-Of-Gamers/ROG-GL502VT/

Light and slim, Skylake i7 6700HQ, GTX 970M (optional GTX980M!), 16GB RAM, SSD + HDD and option for 4k screen. Looks like Asus finally got a MSI GS60 competitor.
*
Look like G501 revamped design due to Razer Stealth design pressure.

They're still selling G501, now updated to skylake with thunderbolt 3

https://www.asus.com/ROG-Republic-Of-Gamers/ROG-G501VW/

Slightly slimmer and lighter than GL502VT,  with GTX960M. I think Asus is starting to diversify their 15 inch range just like 17 inch. High end 15 = GL502VT, mid end = G501VW.
*
Yes, current 15' laptop are now replacing the 17' monster laptop over past years. But 17' still provides ability to use Desktop CPU, desktop GTX980 in mxm form, more spaces for drives and better air flow.

However, Asus failed to do that with G752VY to keep up with the trend which is 17' with desktop class CPU and keeping laptop compact as usual.

As for G501/G552
The problem lies in the GPU itself, as GTX 960M is consider as average performance GPU as nVidia do not see their competitor making much moves.

Ever since Gigabyte brings P34G to the market, the demand of 14' laptop is back and back in last year Razer Blade 14 released it with QHD+ screen and Powerful GTX 970M. What people expecting now is for Asus to release it in 14' form with a better GPU like GTX 970M at least in a 14" size.

G501 is adapting strix naming, is that another exclusive gimmick or existing strix software will be compatible with strix branded laptop? Perhaps "Maximus Strix" laptop coming soon? brows.gif

My upgrade is about myr750 (samsung 850 evo 250gb m.2 sata ssd; 2x 8gb kingston ddr4)

I think you should save more to add ssd (as os drive). To me ssd is more important than ram. (At first i tried to run it with 16gb ram and hdd as os drive. It's too slow for me to be productive)
*
RAM doesn't speed things up, but it allows more things for the computer to keep in mind/alive status.
SSD is for well speed/quick access.

is the unplugged battery time good?

Depends, but do run on battery especially doing web browsing regularly except for gaming to keep the battery in healthy state. icon_idea.gif

yeah. a lot of people thought ram alone can do wonders. no, it cannot hehe

that's the misconception on computer. Computer slow could be processor issue/ram/hdd and also operating system.

Just thinking how much that GL502vy would cost..if below 6k, I would buy.

it is impossible to get it below 6k with NVIDIA GeForce GTX 980M. At least rm8k or more.
Malaysia Asus tends to be skeptical, higher end will have super high specs so that they can price it high.

For GL502V series will have GL502VT which already available in china and Taiwan which is around RM5500 with GTX970m 6GB + I7 6700HQ.

Again, its your personal choice.
Be like others and end up posting for sale on garage or appreciate the beauty and performance like no others (asus).

Survey and research before buy, there are plenty sellers out there offering near supplier price. Don't blind by bullshxts advertisement or cheap ram/ free upgrade offers.

cheers.
*
again, we'll never know GTX 1070M/1080M might offer better price in near future.

Hi, anyone bought the new Asus Strix GL502V-TFI029T can confirm is it comes with IPS or TN display?
Interested on buying it, any seller here can pm me.
Thanks.
*
All GL502 comes with IPS Display. Doubt they would compromise it, since the hardware spec itself is consider high.

Shouldn't be hard, remove the user access slot, then remove the optical drive, remove couples more screw and the entire back panel is off. It is much easier than G53/73 Days. sweat.gif
