riku2replica, I've just contacted the Lowyat Asus Concept store...
They have helped me to call Asus Service Center, and say that G501JW-CN117H don't have extra M.2 Slot. If need they M.2 slot, have to get G501JW-CN117H.
Now I'm so lost now...

I dunno who to confirm with.

My bad... see edit:

If need the M.2 slot, have to get G501JW-CN139H instead.

I'm not sure if I could trust their words, but if they say so, then go on. Safest bet for M.2 Slot is GL552JX or G751.

PS: Based on my experience, why would a manufacturer reproduce different variations of motherboard while G501JW shares the same CPU and GPU on-board, but remove the m.2 socket connector due to different variation type like "CN117H" and "CN139H"?

Yea.. I'm not sure how reliable their info is. I'm more inclined to a "available".
A few retail told me the M2 slot is available for expansion.
It is a risk for this...

Since it has come to this, it's your money to bet on. The choice is yours #toriskornotorisk.

yeah it's counter productive to come out with a variant without m.2 slot.

in my case, g55 comes with stock hdd but no one mentioned about msata slot. (user manual is so not useful either) it's like a bonus to me when i found out that it's there during my first maintenance.

Yup, the I've checked the manual about GL552 and G501 when he asked about M.2 Slot and this time the manual never mention anything about the M.2 Slot despite the maintenance hatch is there for GL552.

the m.2 slot is there. http://rog.asus.com/forum/showthread.php?7...V256HDGL-000000

however that guy cannot get it to work properly somehow. also, asus uses torx screws now (size is ts5). http://rog.asus.com/forum/showthread.php?7...ling-an-M-2-SSD

edit: damn. g501 has no user serviceable area. opening it up will void warranty. http://rog.asus.com/forum/showthread.php?6...sassembly-Guide

from the video, the m.2 slot is under the keyboard. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VLmqfjjBPJ0s accessible.

From What I read across all M.2 Installation is you need to remove the HDD and only leave the M.2 SSD for installation of fresh windows.

I'm aware of that. Peeling off the rubber will means one thing, find substitutes for it.

There's an alternative to the torx screw. Double sided Tape. thumbup.gif

G501 maintenance hatch is the whole bottom case alluminium which bends easily like Gigabyte P34G/Lenovo Y40.

yes i noticed that weird method too lol

uh? double-sided tape can hold the places long enough? i think it's better to just grab one torx screw driver.

yeah. it looks not so tough to me.

sigh.. still looking for the next best laptop :/

I'm trim down my choices to Lenovo Y40 / Asus GL552 for Hackintosh laptop project. laugh.gif Big GPU performance gap between those 2 laptops.

Another solution to the torx is toothpick and some tape to hold it in place.

I just booted up my QX6800 Rig few days ago... It feels so "ancient" compare to current i5/i7 especially Skylake just released. sweat.gif

yeah time flies :/ well qx6800 is really old now; but it's still good for many purposes.

skylake i7 is nice based on reviews. just hope it can bring the ram price down further so that we can grab 128gb ddr4 lol!

yeah that's my dream machine in progress, and i hope i can make it last for some years. there will be upgrades, but i am happy with base parts (cpu, mobo, psu, and casing). the upcoming one is ram. it will be 64gb next week hopefully.

tbh, starting from skylake, highend mainstream systems (i7) should be good enough as the base for at least 3 to 5 years. z170 has enough pcie lanes to support 2x gpu, and 1x pcie x4 ssd as boot drive, and the supported max ram is now 64gb.

hopefully we will have more features coming for laptops.
