I'm not so good but here's my 2 cent. If you dont have expensive card, build you deck for low mana curve. Try to win before round 7. Because most good legends are >6 drop. Of course you can't target 70% winrate. But 60% is good enough to reach rank 10.Any advice? |

For instance, you dont want to play muster for battle on turn 3 against druid, cos you play into swipe. You have to anticipate drboom on turn 7 from opponent when u playing ur turn 6. Think worst case scenarios that could happen and how u could deal with it if it does happen. Watch more pro's streams and study how they play and trade. Decks like handlock requires alot of experience to play and is considered an advanced deck for advanced players. Even face hunter requires some skills even though most will not agree. Yes, the turns are very straight forward sometimes but u should know when to flood board, how to conserve minions, when to burst, when to trade/face, or else u lose tempo and run out of juice. Learn from your mistakes and understand why u lost a game, how could u have done it differently to prevent the defeat, etc.... in short, u need more experience. Using top tier decks doesnt mean insta win if you play without strategy. Mulligan phase is especially important. Knowing what to keep and what to fish for is key for different match ups. |

But think again, this meant u've also could've gotten very lucky at certain times too and climbed a few ranks maybe with a hot streak and bonus stars. In a game of randomness, chances, and probability, the numbers will usually check out in the average in the long term. And remember this also happens to other players whom you played against too. so the difference in who being the better player comes down to experience really. A player who knows what he's doing surely will have more winrates compared to another player otherwise.I do get pretty good win rate from time to time but sometimes I do get unlucky and I fall back between ranks. |

I'm personally a competitive player and have taken down a lot of Legend ranks player from EU/NA/SEA side.
I wanted to share is... Some of it is decision making and RNG factor. You can expect dark horses to win you unsurprisingly but with experience, you can overwhelm most of your opponent not just in one event but for another. Again, just keep playing and ask yourself not to tilt if lose too much! |

When I read deck discussion, sometimes people will say "If you run into a lot of XXX type of deck, try switching in A with B".
my question, even if I switch the card, how i'm suppose to know my next opponent deck type? lets say at rank 10 i run into a lot of secret paladin, so should I modify my deck to deal with it? If i modify, will it be high probability that my next opponent will be secret paladin? Does opponent type has some kind of pattern? another similar question, why people have more than 1 setup to play in the same season? The experience player who've got all card, will they stick to 1 deck from low rank to legend or they will switch? |

QUOTE(Coisox @ Oct 25 2015, 01:13 AM) When I read deck discussion, sometimes people will say "If you run into a lot of XXX type of deck, try switching in A with B". this is called adapting to the meta. previously(last week or so), there were lots of secret paladin players on the ladder. so i use the classic priest with pyromancer combos to counter them since it's good against aggros. but there were also a lot of control warriors and control paladins at the time. so i didn't do so well against control. then i switched to aggro classic zoo lock since i figured it definitely trumps paladin in the minions department and still stand a chance against control if i race them. sure enough, i climbed from 8 to 5 (which was my target) without losing a single game. i still remember i took down 2 tempo mages and 8 secret paladins in a row. so does that answer ur question?my question, even if I switch the card, how i'm suppose to know my next opponent deck type? lets say at rank 10 i run into a lot of secret paladin, so should I modify my deck to deal with it? If i modify, will it be high probability that my next opponent will be secret paladin? Does opponent type has some kind of pattern? another similar question, why people have more than 1 setup to play in the same season? The experience player who've got all card, will they stick to 1 deck from low rank to legend or they will switch? 1st, you will nvr know what player u will run into, but play long enough and u'll know what type of deck ppl are using around ur rank range, so use the best deck u have that can win them. this 'pattern' u mention is random, but sometimes, u will feel like it's rigged. lol... just deal with it. secondly, y ppl have more than 1 setup is exactly what i explained above, to counter the meta. if lots of ppl playing warriors, control pally, try switching something out for a harrison jones for instance. third, experience players, like u said are experienced players. sticking to one deck or not depends on what motivations they are after. these players had reached legend rank at one point and doing it again will probably mean nothing much to them anymore. that said, some of them like to challenge themselves to hit legend again using only 1 type of deck. while some like to rush it and use whatever deck that gives them the most wins in shortest time possible. |

When you said "adapting to the meta" and "type of deck ppl are using around ur rank range", didn't the same people who beat me and go higher use the same deck on their new rank? or does each rank range has their favorable/best deck type?
I don't really get the idea. I can only understand people switch when some card get buff/nerf Let me ask this, I'm currently rank 10, my winrate is 58%, I use the same deck since rank 14. Do you know my deck type? |

Different ppl have different card collection, therefore, play different decks. theoretically speaking, secret pally deck is one of the best decks in the current meta. now imagine these players start at rank 18(lets say), and manage to climb consistently up till rank 10-5, what's left in the rank 20-10 range? probably not much secret pally rite? thats what i meant. u tend to see a huge variety of decks being played in the 20-15 range, given not many players there have complete card collection. then you'd start to see more refined decks like the ones u can find in hearthpwn in the 15-10 range. finally, 5-legend range is like the toughest since every victory is a grind, no bonus stars for win streaks, so u'd find more ppl using control decks like handlock, warrior, etc.... "Let me ask this, I'm currently rank 10, my winrate is 58%, I use the same deck since rank 14. The best I can go is rank 12.
Then I start losing and winning and losing so its still hovering between rank 12. Tried my face hunter deck, my secret pally deck, my midrange druid deck sometimes win sometimes lose can't get any better than rank 12. With my secret pally, I encounter face hunter....couldn't counter much if I didn't mulligan correctly and lose big time. I switch to my face hunter deck and then I encounter mech mage and got wiped.... Frustrated, I change to secret pally again and I encounter oil rogue/mid range druid... Wow talk about RNG and luck. I guess my skill is still not up to par. |
