The builds you got are really not representative of the final game. This whole month, they had really screwed up the performance and also some of the UI are really incomplete or not functional.

Today's build has not skybox some more cause the shaders are bugged.

Console version is pushed back too. No way they can release at this stage without extensive post release patches.

Civ Beyond Earth isnt that bad. It is just the people expecting it to be Civ BNW and Alpha Centuri then disappointed over their absurd expectation.

It is launched in a far better state than Civ V initially and more playable than Age of Wonder III, Endless Legend and Warlock III on release.It just need expansions to expand it to be better and a bit of polish in the mean time.

I dont know, Civ BE is actually much playable than Civ V. There are very little bugs while it is mostly playable, minus much of the cool stuff that differentiate it from Civ V.

I enjoyed my 18.5 hours so far but it really needs expansions to be very good.

People really need to stop comparing a new game with old classics as it is impossible to create a new 4X that is as good as its predecessor. The butthurt actually comes from people who are expecting too much.

There are some improvement in the game's mechanics, it just that people choose to ignore it while bash the game for having less features than the classic game.

I feel like TBS will go the way of RTS at the end. Age of Wonder III is a major flop because everyone kept comparing it to Shadow Magic and hating it while evidently, Shadow Magic isnt made on released on day 1 but after a main game and an expansion, then, we only get Shadow Magic. The more appropriate comparison would be with vanilla Age of Wonders II with no expansions. Same goes with the new Jagged Alliance that is also a major flop because they keep comparing to JA2.

CiV BE is going through the same problem which I doubt Firaxis has the capabilities to turn it around. Even XCOM's expansion didnt sell well and i think the second expansion is cancelled which left the terrible main game still in tact.

Then, when TBS dies entirely, they better dont butthurt that there arent any new TBS games.

Its good if you have friends and you are not intending to play on single player.
