Price for new GS60/70 and GT72 with GTX970M and GTX980M is insane, gaming laptops become more expensive. Luckily I bought earlier, if I were to buy now, I would go for Alienware and Illegear which provide better after sales service.
*
I agree with you on the Alienware. Once my laptop broke on Thursday, i gave them a call and the next day ,Friday, they came and changed the whole motherboard no question asked. Just the initial problem which was unable to start with beeping sound at the beginning. They actually replaced it with a refurbished motherboard

I hope MSI will be like this in the near future. They are still new in Malaysia and still establishing themselves. Other than the service, I would stick to MSI. 2 weeks is too long. Sony takes 2-4 weeks for their laptop repairs too. This year Sony stops their laptop business.

Any idea how to off the screen for GS70 while backgroud still running?
*
Go to Control panel>Hardware & Sounds>Power settings>Edit Plan Settings>Advance Settings

Choose to show settings that are currently unavailable>Power buttons and lid>lid close action> change to "Do Nothing"

or just search in the control panel power sttings>go to change what close lid does. change to do nothing

Nvidia 900M series? man... that's fast. I just bought GT70 with 870M in May mega_shok.gif
I wonder if it is possible to upgrade the graphic card to 970M or 980M
*
I think its not possible since the motherboard is a whole piece with the CPU and GPU attached to it.

so i dl all the FW/drivers n BIOS from the MSI website... do still dl the win8 version or win8.1 version?

btw,u mention backup data... which data?
*
BIOS update is quite dangerous for people not familiar with computers. I wouldn't recommend it if its not necessary. Bios changes your basic software to run everything in your computer. Even without windows, your computer will run on BIOS. Normally if BIOS installation goes wrong, you cant even on the computer.

Thats why its recommended to backup your whole hard disc before updating BIOS.

Is it possible to add a second SSD and make it a new storage instead of Raid?

QUOTE(watermineral @ Mar 25 2015, 08:37 AM)
just want to share some of my experience regarding MSI GS60 2 PE 2014 i bought..
i was really excited to receive my laptop that time, its was pack with nice and tight box to protect the laptop.
BUT
The First Problem, after few day use i realize when i press "space" key, noticed "squeek" sound from the key, was think may look for MSI WARRANTY CENTRE to look into it.
The Second Problem, i am in sarawak and i look into MSI Laptop Booklet, i was "wow" not bad MSI has plenty of MSI WARRANTY CENTRE in Sarawak, no bad yea, but at the end what i know is..... there is NO ONE in SARAWAK. the only ONE MSI LAPTOP TRANSIT Station ( they don repair, they only forward the laptop to KL) is in Kuching, and its really hard to find. no signboard nothing.
The Third Problem, i don know why The Cushion Rubber underneath my laptop will displace, even on flat surface. i am thinking it might be the place to hold the cushion rubber is too shallow. At first i was asking to send the whole unit back to KL, but i was like NO, u ask to send the whole unit back to KL just because that rubber?? At the end, they agree to send the all set rubber to fix so i can fix it at my home. Well, i am satisfied and happy with this. at least they willing to make arrangement for me and fast respond also. Thumb Upsss for MSI.
The Forth Problem, my battery swell up... (just send a email to MSI Warranty Centre) Still have to send back whole unit, sigh..... MSI could u do anything to make me happy??? ur laptop is not cheap yea.
for Sarawakian u wan to get msi laptop, if u think that warranty is important, then you might have to think about it.  wink.gif
* i changed the laptop hard disk to SSD, they wont spoil the warranty yea?? i hard disk is located at the back and it can be change easily without open the motherboard. i ask the dealer in sarawak PC Image, how they avoid warranty void, they say just don damage anything inside, seems like they don have the spare warranty sticker also.  rclxub.gif
update:
now i know changing hhd will void MSI Warranty.
*
Wow sorry to hear that. I bought GS60 2PE too. Its by far the best laptop i own. I use it ALOT and traveles with me everywhere. My Alienware M14x would brake-down 3 times in 1 year +, MSI still going strong and no sign of slowing down. Maybe because of the SSD. My prevoius Alienware graphics card always breakdown after 3-4 months. But the good thing is they have onsite service. Dell (alienware) actually will come to your house the day after u report and replace the whole motherboard without question within the warranty period. MSI needs to keep it at their repair center 2-3 weeks i think, mine never rosak before.

Laptop wise i prefer MSI GS60 by far but I hope later they will implement warranty service like Dell. Now Dell guranty on-site warranty repair/replace the next working day. That is really awesome.

Can someone please explain to me how Super Raid 2 works?

http://event.msi.com/nb/faq/q4.html

Does it mean that I need to have 2 SSDs installed in order to take advantage of this feature?
*
Yes. That means you have the exact copy of the windows on the first and 2nd SSD. So when u load windows, it will load from SSD 1 and 2 at the same time. So the loading time is cut in half. Some MSI laptop can go up to SuperRaid 2 (3 SSD load at the same time)

user posted image

* Super Raid 2 can go up to 1500mb/s

Edit: Super Raid is 2 SSD, Super Raid 2 is 3 SSD

Interested in getting a GE62 before flying over to the UK, but it's Im really confused as to what specs are available at what price.

I'd get the 960/965m ones depending on price diff, but I would rather downgrade the graphic card and get an SSD installed instead, but will installing an SSD void international warranty?
*
From MSI post above you.

QUOTE
We encourage user to upgrade SSD or RAM via service centre or MSI authorized resellers to enjoy warranty service. Please note that any damage caused by user will void the system warranty. Kindly contact service centre hotline 1300-88-2273 (operating from Mon-Fri, 9am-6pm, except public holiday). Thank you.

If u upgade SSD at authorized dealer, it wont void the warranty.

YEah just checked. So if their store not in the list e.g. Alieneye, they can't be trusted?
*
Better not trust. I was dealing with non authorized before. Give me headache. I would really recommend going to the guys in the list.

You're definitely not the only one. Same deal with my GE72. Right fan is not as loud or not as fast as left fan. Perhaps that is a design decision, as to exactly why I have no idea.
*
GS series dosen't have heat sink like the GT series. So they put in 2 fans. Left side is for GPU and right is for CPU.

When you play games that require high graphics, the left fan willl work harder. If you are doing processor related work like opening 100 browsers, the right fan will run faster.

Gamers Hideout offering GE62 for 5099 with 128GB SSD. Worth it?

I found a shop in LYN selling for 4620 without the SSD, but not listed under authorized resller.
*
SSD is so worth it. I have my ssd sony laptop that is 7 years ago and its running faster than my 3 year old HDD Alienware .

Naturally I got a GS60 with SSD.

Wait until you're using PCIE slot SSD with RAID. You will realize convention SSD is too slow. haha

Too expansive now. By the way, some company managed to make 10TB SSD. We should be getting cheaper SSD soon. Then ill do the Raid config.

Haha I was talking about how a consumer grade SSD was good enough for me!
*
Too small. Not reliable enough to install alot of major games. If we can install the games in 10 TB SSD, its even better. Once they mass produce the SSD, should be really cheap. Price of SSD per GB is steadily decreasing.

any GTA V compatible laptop so far?

60fps on med-high settings would already be okay for me
*
Should be ok. So far I played alot of previous/current gen game in High-Ultra, no lag at all. Next gen with Med-High should be fine.
Skyrim (mods), Elder Scrolls Online, Metal Gear Solid 5: GZ, Borderlands 2, Bioshock Infinite, Batman Arkham Origins

Yea so, I'm asking this thread whether any current/upcoming MSI laptops can support GTA V on 60fps med-high graphics setting? Any recommendation(s) please?
*
Get the GS series for slim and light. It will get hot if u play like 4hrs+ non stop. You need a cooler.

GT series - expansive, fastest, is about 2x thicker compared to GS, should not get hot that fast. But very heavy.

GE series- better not get this for serious gaming. It can support previous-current gen game but i wouldnt get this for GTA V.

You should get from authorized dealer. The MSI account has the list of dealers.
