Useless Gamer: Assetto Corsa

Our Useless Gamer concept might be familiar to you by now – we’ve done a few videos of gameplay, where we frankly play the games rather badly, in order to show you some basic gameplay as well as prove that the game runs just fine on our systems.

This week, the turn has come to Assetto Corsa, which is proper racing simulator of the highest order. We can tell you that it runs just fine on the GT72, having done a few laps at Spa-Francorchamps in a Pagani Zonda R.

Team LTR - powered by MSI

user posted image

World leading gaming hardware brand MSI has joined team LTR - Racing with Ferrari as a technical partner for season 2015.

While team LTR continues to push the boundaries on the track MSI will be pushing the boundaries behind the scenes of team LTR with their innovative technologies. MSI notebooks will be utilized by team LTR at the track for all data acquisition, monitoring and media work. MSI will also power team LTR back at the workshop including powering the team’s brand new state of the art simulator that is currently under construction at the teams Australian base.

"I'm personally very excited to be working with the MSI brand. When we started the search for a technical partner we identified a number of key DNA parameters that we were looking for. MSI ticked all the boxes and then some! I couldn't be happier with the partnership." David Hardman - Team Director - LTR Racing with Ferrari.

“We’re always looking for new ways to utilize our mobile high-performance gaming systems and workstations, and when LTR approached us for a technical partnership for the 2015 season, everything felt completely right. We’re very excited to work with a professional racing organization, and wish LTR all the best for the 2015 season. Let’s push all our collective hardware to the limit.” Jonas Klar - Marketing Manager, MSI Notebook.

Useless Gamer: GTA V

With the launch of GTA V we figured another one of our “Useless Gamer” videos was in order. We basically set out on a mission as the highly lovable Canadian-in-denial Trevor and decided to check what sort of framerates the GT72 and its GTX 980M delivers. Hint: we’re running at “Very High” settings with no issues.

MSI Notebook Warranty

user posted image

We get questions now and then regarding warranty and how it works – so we figured we’d try and clarify things for you all. Generally speaking, our Gaming Notebooks carry a 2-year warranty, being first year international warranty and second year local warranty.

The finer points are the world-wide warranty is for the 1st year of ownership (based on date of purchase), as is the battery and the AC adaptor (these are considered consumables). DOA (Dead on Arrival) term is 7 days from date of invoice – any DOA cases claimed after the 8th day of purchase will be treated as regular warranty cases and are to be repaired, not immediately replaced. More info can be found here: http://my.msi.com/page/warranty-condition

As for modifications to hardware – these are generally not warranted by MSI, but subject to regional legislation and policies. While our GT series does come with upgradable graphics and such, these procedures are generally limited to be performed by our authorized service partners. For info on the MSI policies in Malaysia, please contact local service center, found here: http://my.msi.com/page/msinewmap

How to setup steelseries macro in multiple keys to activate certain macro?
lets say i want Alt+2 to activate a text which is "hello" so that it doesn't interference with the original "2".

the steelseries engine currently can only assign to one of the key only.

thanks.

Hi, could you share your notebook model? The key to trigger the macro key can only set a single key. We suggest you may set the triggered key to some key which you rarely used, for example page up and down.

LTR Background

2015 has seen MSI take its first step into involvement in motor racing through a technical partnership with Liam Talbot Racing. The link may not seem apparent at first, but the more you think of it, the more it makes sense. Motor racing is all about going as fast as possible, through the means of high performance. Performance comes from high output, aerodynamics and low weight.

user posted image

We’re not going to claim that the MSI products are shaped with aerodynamics in mind, that would be silly, but we do actually aim to create lightweight, usable products. One of these products, actually used by Talbot and his crew, is the GE62, which the team uses for video analysis and photo editing. The difference between the GE62 and the previous solution, weighing in at around 4kg, used by the team previously couldn’t be clearer, as Liam Talbot explains:
“The mobility of the system is something that helps massively, as we travel around a lot. Every gram saved is worth its weight in gold when you travel as much as we do.”
Furthermore, the 2015 season will see LTR use MSI Workstation notebooks for trackside data analysis as well as a GT72 for its racing simulator back in the team’s native Australia.
Liam’s season started off in the best way possible with a class victory in Round 1 of the Blancpain Endurance Series at Monza in Italy in the thoroughly MSI branded Kessel Racing #111 Ferrari 458 Italia GT3.

About Liam Talbot Racing

Liam Talbot is a 32-year old Australian racing driver competing in the Blancpain Endurance series for the 2015 season. He may have only started his career at the age of 30, but his natural talent rapidly saw him progress from local club races to more advanced GT racing around the world. The ultimate goal for LTR is to compete in the world's most prestigious endurance race - The 24h of Le Mans.

True Color

With the launch of the P series, we’ve introduced what we call True Color Technology. In short, this is a name we use for pre-calibrated, 100% sRGB IPS monitor panels, carefully chosen to aid you in your daily tasks as a designer.

user posted image

The P series comes not only with these high-grade panels, but also some customization. One of the modes is obviously the sRGB mode, but there’s five more, as outlined below:

With a P series notebook, you can easily switch between these profiles through a simple keypress on the dedicated True Color key, located next to the power button.

Useless Gamer: Project CARS

Project CARS is without a doubt the most anticipated racing simulator of 2015. The abbreviation stands for “Community Assisted Racing Simulator”, and in the months before launch the publisher has released tasty-looking teaser videos that makes one thing clear – the graphics, in particular, is what sets this sim apart from most other.

We took a little spin around the menus and Snetterton to see what’s what, on our trusty GT72 with a GTX 980M.

GTA V performance chart (GTX 950-GTX980M)

Some days at the office are better than others – like, for instance, those days when we can compare in-game performance in games such as GTA V. We compiled a little chart to show you what sort of results you get with our different mobile graphics solutions, starting from the GTX 950M (found in the likes of the GE60 and even the P series) to the range-topping GTX 980M in the GT72.

The chart shows you what sort of framerates you can expect in GTA V in our custom benchmark – with all models powered by an Intel i7-4720HQ CPU and minimal spec differences otherwise.

user posted image

Unsurprisingly, the results are plain to see – the graphics cards perform in line with their naming hierarchy. What is clear though, is that the GTX 950M, the card in the lowest end of the pecking order, makes for playable framerates even at Medium settings. Maxed out at Ultra levels though, only the GT72 with its GTX 980M stays above the 30 FPS mark.
