Since NHK World Premium doesn't provide any English subtitles, they should just replace it with NHK World and Hello! Japan (which are now available on HyppTV and Starhub respectively).

well, maybe hypp tv is open their channel for "sharing content"
and look what we have to pay for? now trending that every year have price revised...

i mean channel like HBO, NatGeo, Discovery, etc..not like Astro in-house channels..

We can make two inferences:
1. Hypptv did not sign an exclusive deal with the content providers making it possible for those channels to appear on Astro
2. Access to those hypptv channels were given in return of Astro Supersport etc

tried and tested, not much difference, maybe just slightly stabler

i think malaysia regulator regards to this matter/industry is very weak.... if i'm the minister, I would propose law that prevent exclusive deal for paytv operator for any kind of event/livechannel/sports... all must share fair and square to everbody....by doing this, rakyat will benefit with lower subscription fee and more choices...

Live events especially sports are about dollars & cents AND rights. If one day Hypptv buys the rights for example BPL, Asstro will have no choice but to kowtow to TM. Asstro recently already said they won't pay extra for the upcoming rights renewal. This paves the way for others to bid more than Asstro & take this very important rights away from Asstro. Then perhaps we can see who's boss coz I sure the hell won't continue with Asstro if they can't show BPL.

wow.. quite scary that the BPL rights is million.
if astro wont pay extra, then sure abn, media prima, RTM (who doesnt pay the employees fees in the news room scandal recently), and TM wont invest million money unless they share it together.

I don't think free TV have the capability to pay the money to have the BPL rights. Only contender is TM.

yeah.. i thought so too, but do you think TM will bid millions like astro?

I dunno coz surely they can't be content with having to "borrow" 2 channels from Asstro to show BPL at the moment. The BPL rights is so comprehensive that even if free TV or other channels beside asstro's wanna screen highlights of a BPL match, they gotta pay the rights holder.

Nothing ventured nothing gained. But for TM to bid, they have to invest more on infra to make Unifi available everywhere as right now they are restricted to Klang Valley & some major cities only. Then they can talk about numbers which they don't have now.

It's not beyond the realm of possibility that one day TM will bid for the rights. Look at UK. The latest winners for the BPL rights there are Sky & BT (British Telecoms) where Sky had a monopoly previously until EU stepped in banning the monopoly (how we wish it could be implemented here).

the regulator play important role here.. if they can realize the law (or acts) on no such exclusive rights agreement for malaysia broadcasting industry, all must be open and they regulator itself manage the most populars events/sports/ and etc, the effect to industry player will be seen and the effect to user almost significant,,,

the market of wanting EPL to be here in malaysia IS THERE... somehow, it should be brought here... just the existing PayTv business model seems to benefit the corporate rather than rakyat (user)... it should be deregulate...

Yeah but who's gonna pay for it? The Premier League will not let anyone have it for free. It's a cash cow for them. I dunno how the PL segregate the rights for Asia but it seems like country to country. Asstro holds the right currently to broadcast BPL matches/highlights/clips etc in Malaysia & Brunei only. Fox Sports meanwhile can only broadcast matches to Malaysia only it seems. By having Fox Sports to broadcast certain games, it denies Hypptv the rights to show those games under Fox & Supersport 3. Which is why Fox almost always show Man Utd games (largest viewership I guess). But of coz, hypptv has MUTV but I'm not sure if they show MU's live games or not.

thats why i said, the regulator have the power, when they deny any exclusive right broadcasting in this country, BPL broadcaster must find other way to enter Malaysian market which through the government agencies who regulated the industry... so via RTM (just suggestion) or what ever entiti government should set up to handle this special event broadcasting, then only PayTVs buy from the said "entiti" at regulated & fair & square price as well as ... that create buffer in the exclusive rights events...

but only can be realize thru government which have the will power to take care of rakyat's (user) wellfare rather than a government which jaga corporate people... the whole broadcasting industry should be revamp to flip the beneficiaries to rakyat (who now complaint the dominant of astro and its rip off expertise).. existing broadcasting industry business model already stagnant with astro taking the advantage of it... now it's the time deregulate and make it more player and new method of bringing live/popular events to Malaysia...

Anybody can point me in the right directions to guide on how to set up the PVR to record stuff into my laptop? OR to record first into PVR and to transfer the recorded video to a USB drive or laptop later?

Google hasnt been that helpful.
