usually polishing comes with scaling. just polishing alone is rather rare unless your teeth are truly free from tartar.

QUOTE(balistafear @ Sep 23 2020, 02:28 PM) Good day Dr, Getting a soft brush and using the right technique will prevent your recession further. Firstly thank you for your kind and generous sharing. Read through a lot & it was very informative! I have a question of my own, hope you could share your take on this: My past few visits to dentists, they have shared on gum recession. I think my whole life I've been brushing with a toothbrush that's too hard, and in addition also brushing incorrectly. In my 30's now, and it's visible the damage done. Question: how do I "undo" the damage? 1. I've bought the softest toothbrush and gotten rid of all the rest. 2. I've also stopped brushing horizontal left right left right strokes entirely, and only vertical up down up down. 3. Though this may stop further damaging my gums, what else can I do to return the gums to higher level? Would it grow back naturally? Vitamins? 4. Lastly, what would be the long term consequences if gum recession continues? Will teeth fall off one day because no gums? (Sorry if noob question) Truly appreciate your advise on this. Usually gums do not grow back that easily, if at it, it takes up to years for you to notice any difference. You can opt for tissue regeneration surgery done by Periodontist to cover up the recession area. If recession continues, first is esthetics, your teeth looks longer, you may or may not experience sensitivity on those teeth. Higher chance of food lodgement or stuck which lead to further gum problems or decay. Best is to go for your 6 monthly check up to make sure everything is in good order. Practice good brushing and flossing habits. WaNaWe900 and balistafear liked this post

QUOTE(:3mushy:3 @ Sep 26 2020, 04:27 PM) What's the average cost for single tooth dental implant in KV now? I may want to do one for my upper lateral incisor. And it seems a few dentistry that I went to only provided conventional implant, my cousin had a mini dental implant in Korea so I might want to have that due to the simplicity of the procedure. GP probably around 8k, Specialist probably about 10k. Conventional implant and mini implants require the same procedure or workflow. a 3D X-ray (CBCT) to assess your bone and allow treatment plan. There is not simple steps towards implant. Bear in mind upper lateral incisor is a esthetic zone, so best to do it with an experience practitioner or specialist in order to achieve good results. |

But isn't the advice to brush teeth after every meal, in the mornings, and before going to bed? Anyone keen to shed some light on this? can I know which toothpaste tub is this? |

QUOTE(watabakiu @ Oct 14 2020, 09:07 AM) I am using Colgate Sensitive Pro-Relief. Maybe the instructions doesn't apply to all toothpaste? Doesnt really say not to exceed twice daily, its more of brush at least twice daily. If you do brush more, i dont think there will be any harm.[attachmentid=10631435] Also. do not brush immediately right after meal. If you have to, please rinse thorougly before brushing or wait at least 30minutes after meal before brushing |

If they're in good position and contributes to chewing and biting, please do a root canal and crown it up eventually. WaNaWe900 liked this post

QUOTE(onthefly @ Dec 14 2020, 01:18 AM) Question. Is crown necessary after a molar root canal ? most of the time a molar root canal will need a crown. What situation when crown is not needed after a molar root canal ? Reason being molar is a big tooth that will take a lot of biting forces, once the tooth is root canal treated, it can become brittle and cracks easily. A full coverage crown will help to protect tooth and give its a longer service time. |

QUOTE(kaixas @ Jan 3 2021, 12:23 AM) Yup, got the consultation for the pricing when I went there for a tooth extraction and filling. You can spend time asking more questions and allow yourself to understand your treatment procedure costs, options. But I would like to know whether that price is reasonable? Anyone can share their experience? If can get free service for the next apt, that sounds good Oh and she mentioned my teeth is too weak? soft? and she suggested to wear a tooth cap but never heard of that before. Anyone knows what is that? Its hard to tell whether its reasonable without seeing your case. Also for missing tooth there are various options like dentures, implants or bridges. If in doubt, do visit another dentist and pay a small fee for a consultation and also make sure you're comfortable with the dentist. WaNaWe900 liked this post

QUOTE(kaiel @ Jan 5 2021, 10:12 PM) Hi, I have a question to ask . My tooth (premolar) has a big hole for years (no pain tho) and i decided to do filling in Gov hospital 2 months ago (nov). After filling everything is fine but recently i start getting pain from this tooth (extremely pain). What can i do now? There may be a chance that the tooth was dead and having an infection ongoing, and the hole helps to be an exit channel for the infection. Once closing it up, the infection has no more exit pathway and starting building up inside the tooth therefore causing extreme pain. Best to get it checked again and tell them you have had extreme pain after filling, ideally they should take a test on your tooth and a x-ray to check for any infection ongoing. |

QUOTE(videogames_sports @ Jan 5 2021, 11:27 PM) So does different brands of toothpaste make a difference, or all are the same and equally good? Asking for the best toothpaste (if any) toothpaste brand doesnt matter, they all have different formulation to cater for personal taste. Most importantly is a good toothbrush and proper brushing technique to maintain your oral hygiene WaNaWe900 liked this post

I think he or she meant that the wisdom tooth was impacting on the 2nd molar. Now that the wisdom tooth is removed, filling on the 2nd molar is required.root canal average price in city is 1500+- Filling should be 150+- crown depends on that type, i think the cheapest porcelain is 1000+- |

QUOTE(onthefly @ Feb 14 2021, 03:48 PM) Have a question myself Go have a check with your regular dentist, he or she would give your best assessment. How can we assess that we do not need scaling ? Have seen doctor recommend other not need to do scaling because teeth are clean state Understand General guideline is twice a year for scaling. general guideline is to check twice a year. If your teeth is well taken care, it can be longer. some patients may even require scaling every 3 months due to various reasons. Or one way is to take some plaque disclosing agent, they will stain tartar and that will let you know where is unclean. |

QUOTE(Sherman Kong @ Feb 16 2021, 04:10 PM) hi, may i know what's the market price for extracting a wisdom tooth? Depending on your location. I'm currently 20 years old, studying in U, so i wonder it might get pricey to extract at a private dental shop. is it possible to extract at a government clinic? General Dentist perhaps 600++ Specialist 1000++ You can get it done in at a government clinic too. Some clinic do offer wisdom tooth extraction services, if its complicated, they may refer your to the specialist for extraction. Only cons is the waiting time |

QUOTE(Catnip @ Apr 1 2021, 10:49 AM) Which is the stronger painkiller paracetamol 500mg or mefenamic acid 500 mg? Both are not very strong to start with, Mefenamic acid would be the longer lasting one. and Paracetamol needs at least 1g for it to give painkilling effect. What type of anesthesia do dentist normally use for wisdom tooth extraction? Is it safe to extract wisdom tooth when the patient is taking blood thinners? Generally, local anesthesia, lignocaine, mepivacaine, articaine etc Best to consult your physician that is prescribing your the blood thinners, sometimes they may ask you to stop 1 or 2 days before your wisdom tooth surgery. or just go ahead with them. QUOTE(filage @ Apr 21 2021, 11:33 AM) Just wanted to ask, if a cracked lower molar is held by a composite resin, something like binding the crack together, will there be still movement of the different cracked surfaces when biting? It's hard to tell as we won't know how the cavity is done. Is the composite covering the top of the tooth? If it's a true crack across the structure of the tooth, we crown would be more advisable to withstand the forces |

QUOTE(filage @ Apr 23 2021, 11:55 AM) Yeap, the composite cover the bite surface plus a little bit extend to the side wall of the the tooth. Dentist mentioned about a crack in the files, but doesn't mention more. Wasn't exactly well informed about what actually happened to this tooth during that composite fillings, only recent years went back and ask so the file mentioned very little info other than a crack and a deep filling has been made. Don't remember the dentist said anything about a crown too. He just went ahead and fixed it with composite. There is an L shaped boundary on the tongue side of the tooth wall. Suppose to be boundary between the filling and the tooth I believe and it the boundary is somewhat stained yellow/brown. A crack in the file? Was the tooth root canal treated before? Also noticed that this molar has almost no cusps anymore, the dentist removed most of the rear cusps, maybe left just a bit of the front 2 cusps. Supposed to have 5 cusps based on the opposite side molar which is in good condition. With the current condition of the tooth, it is comfortable to chew on? |

QUOTE(w3sley @ Apr 24 2021, 07:02 PM) Greetings Dr. depends on well aligned is your current teeth and the side without braces. Any advice for one side braces only? I was told that it will cause misalignment during biting with the other side without braces. Thank you for your time! If lets say your other side is really well aligned, one side braces can be done. But yes, there will be a chance of misalignment as we cannot control the movement on the other side to fix it. w3sley liked this post
