QUOTE(Trees @ Jan 10 2022, 11:54 AM) Premolar, my molar already seget ah alright. So using your molar and bridging to replace a lost premolar. Do understand that you will be shaving down your molar and fit a bridge and eventually more work on cleaning and maintaining the bridge ya.

QUOTE(Trees @ Jan 10 2022, 04:51 PM) No no, I'm using premolar to support my missing molar that doesnt sound like a good plan for cantilever replacement You're gonna be placing more stress on the pontic (the replacement tooth) as it placed further back in the mouth. On the long run you may cause issues with the premolar (the support tooth)

QUOTE(filage @ Feb 1 2022, 01:47 PM) My 27 is buccally tilted and the distal of my 26 keeps having plague and food debris no matter how I brush just won't be able to get it away unless flossing. Any idea how I can improve this area hygiene? Because it's not always practical to floss when one is outside or working hours. And any ideas as to why a 27 molar became bucally tilted?🤔 Flossing seems like the most straightforward option for you. A floss shouldnt take much time and can be done in a toilet pretty quickly. And most importantly flossing it at night before you sleep to remove most of the plaque and debris before you sleep then it would help to maintain health other alternative would be to get orthodontics done to move the 27 back in line for easier maintenance Why it became tilted? perhaps you have limited jaw space so as it grew, it grew outward, or you may have an erupting 28 wisdom tooth that may be pushing the 27 move buccal as it was before. A real fix would be to under orthodontic treatment to align it. But now sure how are your other teeth and whether its worth to undergo ortho if just for that tooth alone.

QUOTE(scsoo @ Feb 14 2022, 04:48 PM) Dear Doctor Gigi, I know that Temporary Crown (those acrylic type) normally can break and such... then it will fall off.. Permanent crown normally are hard and wont break easily, but curious what the possibility of it to dislodge? Maybe due to hard brushing or wrong pull from flossing? Can happened to molar crown to dislodge? rarely dislodge if done properly and using good cements. not done properly would mean the support tooth is poorly prepared and lack retentive features. sometimes eating sticky foods like gums or caramel also may dislodge the crown. Even if the crown dislodges, keep it well and bring it back to your dentist and get it recemented back.

QUOTE(un.deux.trois @ Mar 6 2022, 09:08 PM) I'm going to take my braces off soon and planning to do teeth whitening after that. What do I need to know before proceeding with the treatment? Is it worth it? I drink latte 1-2 cup every day by the way. I used 3D Whitecrest years ago and it did bring my teeth a few shades lighter but the teeth became very sensitive for almost a week or so. Can I reduce teeth sensitivity post treatment by using toothpaste for sensitive teeth like Sensodyne before starting the procedure? after your whitening procedure, for the first 5 days, avoid foods and drinks that will stain your teeth. You might have to drink your latte via straw without swishing around your teeth. You can use sensitivity toothpaste post treatment to reduce the sensitivity and eventually the sensitivity will go away as time passes. Its inevitable that you will have some sensitivity post whitening depending on the whitening intensity you're getting. more white -> more sensitive.

QUOTE(un.deux.trois @ Mar 7 2022, 01:06 PM) Thanks for the reply. How frequent can teeth whitening be done? A bit concerned if it can damage teeth if done frequently or improperly. depending on whats the intensity of the whitening product you're using. Do enquire your dentist about it and how often it can be done. There are variety of products available nowdays.

QUOTE(adlizinc @ Mar 7 2022, 01:19 PM) dear dental practitioner, i wanted to go for a root canal treatment and crowning but was so scared. root canal procedure, does it hurt? how long does it take to complete? Your dentist should give your local anesthesia to numb the tooth to be worked on so you wouldnt be feeling much pain. But if the tooth is having an acute infection, you may experience some discomfort post root canal. It usually takes a couple of visits to thoroughly clean out the root canal space of your tooth. Do discuss with your dentist.

QUOTE(Jojolin @ Apr 5 2022, 05:03 PM) Any advise on how to prevent tooth being shaky and eventually have to pull out? Dentists can't seem to do anything about it. Sounds like you have gum problem or periodontal disease. Your best bet is to consult a periodontist.

QUOTE(frontierzone @ Apr 13 2022, 03:13 PM) I have unbalanced lower incisors, meaning 1 or 2 incisor is slightly behind the other incisors, like roof tiles overlapping a bit to the next tile. A toothbrush is too broad to properly brush the surface that is stacked behind another incisor. Thus incisors become stained and too eager brushing of the submerged incisor causes more abrasion to the incisor on front.Any solutions? long term solution is orthodontics to align your teeth. If not. you can get toothbrushes with slim bristles and angulate them to try to reach those tight spots. also regular flossing to clean those tight surfaces

QUOTE(tulipmukai @ Apr 25 2022, 11:11 PM) If u pull out a tooth & do not replace them with denture or implant - the opposite teeth will grow longer? Is this true? How long will it take & is there any other way? its true, your opposite teeth will grow out to find something to bite with and neighbouring teeth may drift into that empty space. Usually the most drastic change will happen within a year after you extract the tooth. Alternative? dont extract the tooth! try to perform treatment to prolong the life of the tooth. or you have to consider and plan for replacement if its going to be extracted.

QUOTE(FinestConfusion @ Jun 21 2022, 12:22 PM) So I have this really bad molar cavity like its pretty much almost just 50% tooth now. I went to a private dentist and they said that it's barely on the edge of saveable - recommending an RCT quick. I went to a government hospital to get a second opinion, they said that usually they would just remove the tooth, it's too much of a hassle at that point, because my wisdom tooth is still there and an RCT on that molar needs my wisdom tooth to be out of the way. I told them that I actually already had an appointment with the initial private dentist - scheduled a week after to remove the wisdom tooth. The government dentist said "oh, actually then maybe its doable, come back 2 weeks after the wisdom tooth is removed if that private dentist still says an RCT is doable." Now my concern is should I go RCT with the government dentist or private? I'd rather not spend ~RM1.5k on an RCT, so I was hoping the government one was okay but I don't know the logistics on how they operate. I was able to book an appointment with them a day before meeting, but that was just to get a check and a second opinion. Does an actual operation like an RCT require an even longer waiting time? Yes by all means, if you can get an appointment for RCT with gov dentist it would be great. Do consult with the gov dentist again and find out how long it will need for you to get an appointment. A picture or x-ray would be more helpful to assess the restorability of the tooth.

QUOTE(FinestConfusion @ Jun 22 2022, 10:13 PM) it does looks pretty bad, but seems like still restorable but pretty guarded prognosis. One things for sure is that the impacted wisdom tooth needs to be removed first.

QUOTE(yurie @ Jul 19 2022, 09:08 AM) Is removing and replacing an existing restoration that's 1-2mm distance from pulp horns consider risky? probably had a leaky fill, but my paranoramic xray doesn't show any demineralised area under filling. got some strange semi pain or discomfort when eating sugary acidic things, It's like when we have a small skin wound and it comes into contact with water may not be that painful but an annoying pain/pseudo lingering discomfort. yes its considered risky as there may be possibility of bacterial invasion into the pulp space which contains the nerve. Your symptoms seems like a leaking restoration or maybe a crack. Best to get it checked and replaced.

QUOTE(ragk @ Sep 30 2022, 04:54 PM) I just went for Invisalign assessment, did a x-ray scan and turn out my overbite are quite serious... Suggestion is to remove 2-4 teeth, or none at all, just usual alignment but the end result most likely not be satisfy, depend on my choice They still working on the detailed treatment plan for all these 3 option, will go back to discuss again when they are ready. After went home suddenly it come to my mind, if I choose the plan of removing 2 upper teeth, will my upper and lower teeth kinda unbalance? Is this fine? Although I cant do proper bite now also lol if remove 2 upper teeth, it would usually be one on the left and another on the right, which will still balance your teeth. As for your bite, the treatment is supposed to improve your bite for both upper and lower. So removing 2 upper teeth will not cause imbalance.

QUOTE(ragk @ Oct 4 2022, 02:21 PM) Thank you for reply . And 1 more thing, If I choose to remove 4 teeth, would it affect my eating before the treatment complete (using invisalign)? Since that will be some gap for something, do I need to avoid hard food for the period? your chewing may not be affected so much as you probably still has at least 2 or 3 pair of teeth to help with your chewing, but there will be some adjustment period right after removal of the teeth. No need to avoid any hard food or have any strict diet especially using invisalign

QUOTE(Bearberry @ Oct 30 2022, 10:21 AM) Hello! I had swollen gum on one side of my mouth and the dentist did scaling and prescribed antibiotics. I had it for a couple of days, I’m no longer having swollen gum and everything’s fine now but I still have another 3 days of antibiotics to go. The dentist asked me to finish ‘em up but do I really really really need to finish every single pill? Yes you must finish the antibiotics. As they are helping your body to fight off the infection. Even though you're recovering now, there may still be remnants of infection. Finishing up the antibiotics will allow your body fight them off better and also prevent resistance in the event you the infection grow stronger against the antibiotics that you body has only taken halfway.
