I have just been recommended to do braces and was quoted RM7k cheapest all the way up to RM25k for the 'wireless' braces. What is the market price for braces? Just wanna compare.
*
generally in the market, conventional metal braces ( those with rubber rings) hovers around rm5k, the self ligating ones ( most ppl refer as Damon ) goes to 6.5k to 7k.

wireless ones are clear braces/ clear aligners ( invisalign most common brand ), starts from 18k depending on your case severity.

having said that, experienced practitioners or specialist will charge higher rate as well.

Thanks for the reply. I went to the clinic in Bangsar to ask about tooth implant procedure to replace my missing tooth. It turned out that my case is not suitable for implant and the dentist recommended me to wear braces to close the gap.
*
I see. I hope you got a clear explanation from the dentist on your case and you understand how the treatment will help you.

I still need to read up more on braces before taking the plunge😀. First thing, do you have recommendations where to do braces in KL/PJ? Is it necessary to have it done by a specialist orthodontist over a general practitioner?

My teeth are not perfectly straight but they are not very crooked either. Other than the gap caused by the broken tooth, i can actually live with my current teeth.
*
My bet is that you consult a few dentist and get a second opinion on whether you need braces. Most importantly it is for you to understand what you need it.

Not really necessary to have it done by an specialist. I do know of experienced general practitioner who has done much more cases than a specialist.

I can recommend someone for you to see in PJ area. Do check you pm.

QUOTE(Pattuma @ Jun 4 2020, 01:46 AM)
Hi. I previously had a Root Canal Treatment done on one of my incisors and i am advised to do a crown. Besides I have fluorosis as well so the doctor suggested to do veneers as well. However, the price listed by the clinic is too expensive as I am still a student and cannot pay the price.

Recently I'm starting to have a bit of sensation on the incisors that had the RCT. I went to another clinic and they say i may need another RCT because they saw there is 'something' at the supposedly done teeth (2 months back). Also, they advised me to do the crowning and veneer as well. Again, I declined because i reallly cannot afford to pay, especially at these times of COVID where i lost my part time job. They told me it costs 2k/crown or veneer, and i need 6 done because they are my front teeth. If that's so i need to pay up rm 12k (not inclusive of the possible re-RCT and consultation fees)

Are there any other affordable options? (e.g. government. If so, how long is the waiting period? I heard that they do not accept patients older than 18.)

it's tough for me to have to bear the cost right now and i do start to notice my incisor tooth starting to turn more yellow. can i afford to wait till i start working?
*
You can try to visit one of the government dental clinics and let them know your problem. They may or may not refer you to the specialist but you can always enquire first.

How bad is your fluorosis? Common fluorosis is just usual discoloration which does not affect function of the tooth, only esthetics is affected which most people are not bothered.

My advice is try to fix the front teeth that needs RCT, if you're not comfortable with the dentist or he/she does not explain to you the how and why, different options you can go for, I would seek for 2nd opinion with another dentist.

Ultimately it is up to you to decide what you want to do, the dentist would suggest treatment plans suitable for your case.

How about dentist checkup or cleaning? During times of covid. Dentist wear PPE?

Due for a check-up but need some convincing/discouragement to go/not to go during pkpb.
*
Do call up your preferred clinic and enquire first, and best to set an appointment.

also enquire if they are performing Aerosol Generating Procedure (AGP) eg scaling, fillings. usually they would be equipped with full PPE and maintain strict infection control.

Hi.

Recommend me a good toothpaste.

Sensodyne?
*
any fluoridated toothpaste will be fine for use. if you have sensitive issue, you can go for sensitive series.

most importantly is the correct toothbrushing technique and and a soft toothbrush.

best to get it checked with a dentist. kids under 12 have active teeth eruption and they may look haphazard.

thanks for your advice. i think it is quite bad? there are patches all over my front teeth. i do not dare to smile when taking pictures because it is quite obvious

can i walk in government clinics just like that? because i'm concerned that during MCO they might not allow walk in

does government clinic offers RCT and veneer for fluorosis? or is it only available in private practice?
*
Yes you can walk into government clinic just like that, usually you'll see a general dental officer, just let him know your concern.

Government clinics do offer RCT, but for fluorosis, root canal is not required.

Its just a cosmetic treatment to cover mask off the spots, there are various treatment options available depending on your case.

hi guys, any semi government dental clinic for braces?
im not rich but im eager to have braces.
if do pls suggest...
thanks!!
*
no that I've heard of.

Best bet is in college but undergraduates are not exposed to braces so it will be done most probably by a specialist which ends up as the usual price as outside.

most clinics offer installment plans and low downpayment for braces package

Hi all, if there any reliable dental clinic can recommend for braces? Around PJ/Puchong/Sri Petaling/Kuchai Lama...which not too far away from Puchong...
I'm thinking to have invisalign but it is damn expensive, the quotation i got is from 18k-20k...is it normal? If invisalign better than damon system? One of the dentist told me if I wear invisalign about 1 yr can done and damon may need longer time... so I wonder which one shal i go for....
Much appreciate for your guys advice =)
*
Yes 18-20k is normal quotation for Invisalign depending on your case thou. sometimes can be cheaper.

Invisalign is clear braces where you dont have to have any brackets on your teeth, with some help of attachments and the aligner, your teeth can be moved and achieve the final result as braces too.

Benefit of invisalign would be more comfortable, removable and doesnt interfere with eating, easier to clean and maintain hygiene.

As for timing, not significant studies show that invisalign is faster but most dentist feedback says that it is. Even so it wont differ by a lot.

If you have the $$$, and want a more comfortable experience, go for Invisalign.

Thanks for your advice!!! It's bit awkward but yea, below the x-ray i took in previous when I do my wisdom tooth extraction....one of the dentist I consult told me that I have to remove 3 teeth and can don't bother the one hide under the gum when i have the braces...so i wonder how true it is....

And I did consult her about damon clear but she not recommend and not using it because the result not good, teeth moving slow...so she only do damon or invisalign braces...if you dont mind to give me some advice & opinion.... biggrin.gif

This OPG x-ray is not sufficient for me to provide you with advice on your treatment.

But one thing is for sure, you should remove the tooth that is impacted under the other teeth, they risk causing problems in future and may interfere with your tooth movement.

Damon Clear is basically ceramic, functions the same with regular Damon (stainless steel).

Ceramics will have higher friction with the wires that will slow down tooth movement therefore slower result. But the end result would still be the same. Just longer time.

Go for regular Damon if possible if you're ok with the metal showing, unless you really must look good even with the braces then you can opt for Damon clear, but be prepared for longer treatment time and increased cost too.

owww...is it mean i have to go for surgery to remove the hidden tooth under the gum OR just remove the tooth above it and then pull the hidden tooth out??  shocking.gif
*
ah basically one of the premolars is stuck under the tooth as there is not enough space to come out.

You have to undergo a minor surgery to remove the hidden tooth. but prior to that, your dentist would probably take a 3D x-ray to ascertain the position of the tooth to plan for the removal approach.

I'm not sure but do you have any reliable dental clinic can recommend to me arround KL/Selangor area (I'm stay puchong)...Too many option but need a reliable one when it come to long term treatment like braces.... sweat.gif
*
haha. its a minor surgery, you can do it with local anesthesia, meaning only numbing that area, you dont have to go through a full body numb. But choice is up to you.

I'll give you a PM on recommendation. Cheers smile.gif

Thanks Batusai!!

The minor surgery mean have to cut the gum and take the tooth out right?

Btw, will you recommend me to remove my wisdom tooth ? So far I have no issue with it but some dentist do advise me to remove all.... doh.gif
*
Yes you're right on the minor surgery part, making an incision on the gum and remove bone that is covering the tooth and expose the tooth and get it out and close everything up.

According to your OPG, your lower left one probably has been removed by now, the lower right one looks highly likely to cause some problems in future so I would suggest for you to remove it as well. And for your upper ones, well since their lower partners have been removed, they become a liability for you to maintain so basically it does not serve anymore purpose so you can consider removing it as well.

I wonder why my teeth got hole although I really seldom eat sweet things. Dentist says  because it comes not at the right position blink.gif
*
There are alot of factors that contribute to hole/cavity on your tooth.

anything that has sugar in it, even our rice contribute to acid formation which slowly break down the tooth structure and cause a cavity.

In your case, when the tooth is not at the right position, it makes it tougher for you to brush or clean the area causing more accumulation of food particles which contributes to acid formation that cases a hole in your tooth.

Few days back, not sure why all of a sudden when i brushed my bottom teeth on the right side, my gum feels kind of painful. When I floss, it bleeds. Usually it doesn't.

Is it because I might have brushed my teeth too hard which has now caused gum abrasion?
*
only that spot having bleeding? others fine?

gum abrasion usually will not show as bleeding, did you change new toothbrush recently?

Yes, only that area bled when I tried to floss yesterday. No bleeding when I brush it because I try to brush that area as gentle as possible to avoid pain. However, I attempted flossing just now with light motion and no bleeding. Others no issue and not painful and no, I did not change new toothbrush. Could it be..gum infection?  sad.gif
*
possibly that area had some extra plaque buildup over that day, if you're flossing and brushing daily, I think you do not have to worry. bleeding occasionally is normal

I doubt its infection, if its an infection, you'll probably feel some boil and swelling and pain over that area already.
