Nothing stuck there. In fact, I stop using dental floss 2 years ago, but use the sickle scaler to 'floss' in between teeth and occasionally scrap off any visible tartar (i developed tartar easily maybe because I take Calcium supplement regularly). That's how I found out the numb in the first place!
*
Floss is mainly to clean the area which will prevent tartar formation on that area.

Using a sickle scaler so often might actually injure the gums area if not use properly sweat.gif

Why not try stopping the sickle scaler and start flossing that area daily after brushing and see if it improves.

Hey all. I have a serious inflammation since last Thursday. Till now my right cheek is swollen. I have a feeling that it's my partially out wisdom tooth is causing the problem now. And also the gum half covering it. I went to the dental and she said she couldn't do anything except giving me antibiotics and painkillers. She did however do x-ray though, and I could see that they are very straight. Is it necessary to pull them out? Cause that's what she suggested. I have needle phobias so I don't know what to do about this.
*
In my opinion, if you've had serious inflammation over at that area means an infection has already happened, the antibiotic will reduce the swelling.

In future it might get infected again if not well taken care, if it happens again its better to remove them.

How to take care? make sure you're brushing that part everyday, floss that region and try to gargle everytime after meal to make sure no food gets stuck there.

That's what i have been doing, but still kena. It might be just the position of the g\tooth directly on the gum above.
*
If thats the case, it would be better to remove the tooth before further damage happens which eventually affects the neighbouring tooth.

Gonna consult another dentist this weekend and see how.

Do keep us updated on the progress.

Anyhow, you can always ask the previous dentist who took the x-ray to email the picture of the x-ray to you.

Are toothbrush with thin bristles better? Nowadays the marketing gimmick goes like 0.01mm or 0.02mm, it used to be Systema doing commercial boasting about thin bristles then others started following. Now there are even those black coloured bristles and they call it charcoal. What's the professional opinions?
*
Thin Bristles are good yes. As long as they're soft. Charcoal ones are gimmicks, marketted as as antibacterial but studies shows that it does not help with lowering the bacterial count on the toothbrush.

But what is most important is the brushing technique, if you're brushing it wrongly, even the most expensive toothbrush will not help.

Dont forget flossing too. Brushing and Flossing is the most basic oral hygiene care that must be done.

please advice why do teeth gum suddenly bleed? without brushing it just sudden bleeds

You probably have got some sort of Gum disease. Better to get it checked with a dentist.. and specifically one that does a detail gum checkup. Not a lot clinic does it. But do enquire the front desk if they do have that service..

Just wondering how have you been? Has the swelling subsided after taking the medication?

I'm having the same issue, i think it's my wisdom tooth causing my left cheek swollen but there's no pain tho.
*
Its a sign of a start of infection. probably at a mild stage which may resolve on its own.. Do salt gargle rinse.

Its better to get it removed as soon as possible to prevent further infection that may increase complications in future.

Yea, just got back from the dental clinic. Been advised to remove not 1 but 2 wisdom tooth, both top and bottom. Prescribed antibiotics as well.

Just curious, will gum/teeth infection cause feverish or mild fever?
*
yes. usually advisable to do both side together. As tooth function as a pair. since one of it has to come out. might as well get the other one out as well. Wisdom tooth dont really help in biting provided you still have your 1st and 2nd molar.

and yes. any infection can cause fever symptoms

I've got a spot in the gum which gets a bit of "infection" every now and then.

That spot swells up a bit (like a blister) and when I pressed on that spot sometimes gets bit of pus and blood, and the minor swelling goes down.

It's a minor annoyance and the dentist I go to describes it as chronic infection and has some suggestions. There are no obvious tooth problem/decay/pain, and the dentist does not suggest I need to do any root-canal or teeth pulling.

I would like a second opinion.
*
It sounds like an periodontal abscess to me, abscess in the gum.. it is a chronic infection which becomes acute which swells up with pus and blood.

Cause of these abscess is due to tartar that may be well hidden under the gums.. usually you'll need an x-ray to be able to appreciate it.. a periodontal problem will not have any signs of decay or tooth problem. and mild discomfort only.

Please go ahead with another dentist for a second opinion. If it really is a periodontal abscess.. you will require a root planing or a deep scaling.

Ok, more info.

That spot is between 2 side tooth. 1st good tooth, and 2nd tooth the dentist has been putting a crown on which Stage 5 (or 6?) before the final crown. He's done all that well because before the tooth was painful. Now the pain is gone, and I can bite on the tooth. But it is still as the last stage before the crown. The dentist is baffled because he said he cleaned out the tooth thoroughly.

Information about the tooth. According to x-rays, the tooth has 2 roots that have a joined channel. So the channel cannot be cleaned out thoroughly. So he filled the root with "chemicals" which will kill any bacteria. As far as he can tell, the tooth is ok.

But the problem spot is not on the root-canal tooth. It is somewhere in between the other tooth. Is the problem the root-canal tooth, or un-related problem?

Here a picture for your reference,

From what you're telling me, it sounds alot like a gum problem. It doesnt not happen inside the tooth but on the outside which affects the supporting structure of the tooth namely the gums and the bone that are holding it.

Your dentist did a root canal that removes the pulp of the tooth which will render the tooth pain free cause it does not have anymore nerve endings. It is normal that there is no more pain on the tooth and allow you to bite.

He has cleaned the inside thoroughly but maybe the outside of the tooth hasnt been cleaned yet.

Its better to get a second opinion somewhere in this case. It hard to diagnose without an x-ray for your case. And your dentist telling you that it cant be cleaned thoroughly is kind absurd.. No matter how the tooth anatomy is, we are supposed to clean it out thoroughly when we do a root canal, and with you having gum issue.. its almost impossible to for him to not notice.. except he chose to ignore it..

unfortunately.. a gum treatment takes a longer time and need constant monitor and follow to ensure it heals and gets better.. charges arent high as compared to a root canal and a crown.. so yeah.. if you problem still persist.. i would suggest to see another dentist.

I understand your picture about a gum problem, and from what my dentist is telling me, and from what the x-ray picture shows, that's not the problem and a I tend to agree.

It's the infection spot between 2 tooth, not a problem surrounding 1 tooth.

That's why I'm seeking a second opinion here, and considering a third opinion with another dentist. Thanks for your feedback smile.gif
*
Infection spot is between 2 teeth, the picture only depicts on one tooth. Our tooth are all lined up together. so you have to imagine that the gum disease starts at the side of the tooth which eventually can affect the neighbouring tooth.

Because the source is from the tartar that is sticking on the tooth surface, so only way is to clean the tooth surface throughly. An x-ray would be helpful to detect is the neighbouring tooth is affected.

Heres a sample of x-ray I grabbed online. as you can see. it can involve the molar that has been root canal treated. Bone can continue losing but there might not be any bad symptoms because there are no more nerve endings on that tooth itself!

Again its hard to give a clear picture through a forum here. So best thing is to go to a dental clinic and tell them your concerns. And if you can share a copy of the x-ray taken. it would even help greatly.

Glad to be of help smile.gif

Hi, my gf said I grind my teeth alot when I sleep. Even my "tiger teeth" is flat now. Especially the front part of my teeth (bunny teeth tiger teeth) those inner bigger shorter teeth are still have some crown? Sorry I dont know the specific words for these.. is there any cure for it? I dont wanna grind my teeth when i sleep and any prevention? As my dentist said its quite severe and if prolong of this grinding symptom while sleeping it might cause alot of pain or toothless in the future, can be prevented by wearing a custom made mouth guard when I sleep?? But it seems to me alot of discomfort when I sleep and trouble when i travel gotta bring along.. Please help =( I want my teeth
*
First, you need to find out the cause of your grinding?

Stress or anxiety is one of the main reason, maybe find out when did your GF started noticing and did you have any change of habits?

Or perhaps you might have some mal-aligned teeth that causes the grinding, which can be fixed by braces.

Wearing a custom made mouth guard is one way to minimize the grinding as it parts your teeth away and protects the teeth from grinding each other.

I would suggest to start using the mouth guard to minimize the grinding habit and in the mean time find out what is causing the grinding to happen.

sounds like stains or maybe tartar, best to get it checked at a dental clinic, sometimes some areas maybe be hard to reach and not effectively cleaned causing accumulation of stains.

Okay i have made appointment to check already but it's a few days from now. i am scared it is decay and not tartar. How to tell difference between tartar and decay?
*
tartar are usually hard and yellowish, brownish and they form near your gum lines on top of your tooth surface

Decay are usually soft and and brownish and darkish and usually inside your tooth.

Hard to tell by just seeing, a dentist has to probe and feel for it.
