I compared yr SNR and attenuation stats to post #1's figures in this thread and your figures range from good to excellent to outstanding! (12.1dB for downstream SNR is outstanding) Looks like you already have a very decent connect. Are you encountering any problems?

The SNR downstream quite low ,and the attenuation for downstream also very high. The downstream stats not really good compared to the upstream.
*
Whoops..I mixed up SNR and line attenuation where downstream was concerned. My bad...was blurrr. Let me remedy that properly.

Comparing the stats in post#775 with the figures and their ratings in post #1:

SNR up: 29.3dB. Outstanding
SNR down: 12.1dB. Good with no sync problem
Line attenuation up: 8dB. 20dB and below is outstanding
Line attenuation down: 29.3dB. 20dB-30dB is excellent

Yes his SNR downstream is a bit on the low side. What would u suggest to remedy that. A new microfilter perhaps? The rest of the figures seem to be rather good.

The least they could do is to offer existing customers the same promo price as well. I've read some existing 4Mb/s users is paying RM120 only. I wonder on what basis they have different prices for different people.

Anyway I check with the TMPoint Titiwangsa branch on this 4Mb/s RM88 with free tablet promo but the woman said there's no such package for 4Mb/s, they only have 1Mb/s at RM88 with free tablet.
*
I had also inquired at TM Point regarding the 4meg for RM88 with tablet package. The lady said that it was only for "pelanggan baru" and "orang luar bandar". I am not eligible. It is unfair to users who have to pay more (I'm paying RM130/month for 4mbps). Being able to save 30-40 ringgit every month would be nice sad.gif

I'm using the stock riger db120-wl modem router. i notice the wifi will have problem after certain amount of time. my laptop (connected via wifi) will lose internet connectivity. i can't go to any website. can't go to the router page. i need to disconnect and reconnect the wifi, then i can continue online.

is this a known issue?
*
I was given a Riger modem router by TM but I never used it because I had a Dlink. I had given the Riger away to a friend who needed a modem.

Today I contacted my friend and asked how the Riger was performing, and was told that the wifi has the same problem as what you described. Loses connectivity, got to off and on it again..then it works for a while and then the same problem happens. She cannot tahan and chucked it some time ago. Coincidentally, she replaced it with the same modem router I'm using now...Dlink DSL 2750E...we both have no problems. It's not fancy, but it's cheap and it works. smile.gif

Am using 2 units Dlink 2750E; not fancy, affordable and problem-free. Wifi is ok only but range is not great. Standing about 18 feet away with 2 cement walls in between, signal strength drops to 2 bars.

Last week my connection was miscap to 2Mbps. Speedtest test shows 1.5 - 2.1 Mbps.

4 times already. bloody hell TM
*
I had that problem before also. It all stopped after the TM technician said he wanted to launch an internal investigation as to why the miscap kept happening...he was also sick and tired of the problem; I saw the anger in his face. He also told me that because of port shortages, some people with internal connections were engaging in port theft so they could get new customers on a 4meg connect. The thieves probably were hoping that the old customers would not notice the decrease in speed.

that is some serious shit happening there. For those who unaware, kesian la kena tipu.

I plan to compile all my cases and lodge it to consumer forum and SKMM, plus your info is valuable for me to lodge this also
*
My lengthy miscap ordeal came to an end after the TM technician's 2nd visit to check my line. He must have lodged a very serious report to his superiors. I received a call from the local TM staff to tell me that "KL dah upgrade port anda ke 4mb.", to which I replied that it is NOT an upgrade...it is merely what I am supposed to get for what I'm paying money for! I checked and indeed my line was over 4mbps again. 30 min later I received a call from TM HQ to ask how my line was performing, to which I replied in the positive.

Though I can snap together a pc in 30-40min, I am far from being a tech. I had never heard of the word "miscap" until I posted my irritating problem along with modem stats in this forum early this year. My thanks to Blacktubi and the others who made me aware that miscaps do exist. I hope your problem can end soon!

QUOTE(ryanlow134 @ May 13 2015, 10:10 AM)
I also experience the same thing, call them everyday to reset port on their side... then everything was ok... until the next week
*
After my miscap problem was resolved, I did some very serious googling to educate myself on the vagaries of ADSL and port settings. It takes deliberate and premeditated human intervention (in most cases) for port rates to be changed. Keep on lodging complaints with TM and please do as norman05051984 intends to in post #961. If many victims of "miscaps"/port theft make noise, then maybe the problem can be reduced to a minimal level.

damn it..today just call TM point ( small branch ) he told me that my area its actually cover 4mbps....i was shocked because i call manytimes to TM point ( main branch at sban ) ..they keep say my area not support 4mbps..

who should i believe ?? any idea to ask TM upgrade my area to 4mbps ??
*
Let me tell u my own experience.

After over 8 yrs on a 1mbps connect, I always asked the staff of tmpoint when the 4mbps service is available on my street. the answer was "not yet". In my 9th yr on 1mbps, the tmpoint staff phoned their tech dept in front of me to ask, and the answer was that 4mbps was available, but they were not taking in more new subscribers because the line was not yet stable and early adopters couldn't get a decent connection. I asked the TMpoint staff to give me a call when it was stable because I wanted to upgrade.

A few months after that, TM installed a new cabinet on my street. A few days after that, I got a call from TM offering to upgrade. Price was too high (RM150/month) and I refused (I was expecting a lower price like some other users got). A month or so later, they called again with a lower price (RM130/month). I accepted and 2 hours after that I got a call on landline as well as SMS on cell informing me that my account was upgraded to a 4mbps connect.

My suggestion: personally go to that "small branch" TMpoint, ask the staff to help check with tech dept as to the availability and stability of a 4mbps connect in your area. The techies will know the actual situation better than Tmpoint staff. If all is good, upgrade!

edit: corrected a typo.

Sorry.. actually I just wonder...

What things actually affect the torrent speed..
Why someone can get normal/full speed on torrent.. and some other can't...

user posted image
Current speed..

Usually... can only get full speed around midnight to 6/7AM..
But nowadays... seems like torrent are sort of uncapped... :/

Edit: And oh.. no special software/VPN involved...
*
Some factors which affect yr torrent speed (with specific emphasis on answering your question of "Why someone can get normal/full speed on torrent.. and some other can't..."):

Number of seeders (as well as the upload speed permitted by seeders) online.
How much u upload for a particular torrent...the more u upload, the more download u get..fair-fair lah!
Number of half-open connections you have.

I don't use a VPN, and when conditions are right, a dl very often can have sustained speeds of 450-500kB/s, which is pretty much maxing out a 4mbps connect.

but... i torrent often get high-speed burst for a limited time only.. if i leave overnight and look at the graph next morning, i can achieve max for about 20 minutes only, and down to about 30-40kbps most of the time. why? it's not like no seeder.. peer also many..

about more u upload more u get, i can't do much cause upload affect download speed on streamyx IINM.. not like unifi where upload n dload are separate. that's why u'll lag like hell when u try to cast ur dota2 on streamyx line.
*
There could be various reasons for that: Seeders join the swarm and leave the swarm all the time, peers may not have the parts you require, and for all I know your Streamyx account had been identified as a very heavy user and the powers that be had subjected your torrents to be throttled after a certain amount of data, in accordance with their fair-use regulations.

I'm not a networking expert; was merely sharing what I know/able to deduce. In your case as well as pakji's, both of you leave the computer on overnight to download. Both of you SEEM to be throttled to varying degrees. So...cause and probable effect are there. I've never left a computer on overnight to download stuff nor do I torrent a lot, I don't do online gaming...and on torrents with enough seeders, I get the max speed till all of the file is on my hdd.

i dunno how torrent work. i mean, how seeder join/leave the swarm as u mention. as i said, there's seeder, usually more than 5, depending the popularity of the torrent. but most of the time, only 1-2 will send their data to me, which one at high speed and the other one at 1-2 kbps.

i torrent when the thing that i want is only available on torrent, which is IIRC about 5 times from the date i start use streamyx (dec 2014). i leave it overnight because there's no one using the net at that time. u know torrent at daytime can cause other user go crazy at the net speed.. even though i am the only user on this line most of the time.. tongue.gif

well.. i think as u said, maybe my acc had been identified and flagged as very heavy user, thus make me suffer from slow torrent speed.  cry.gif  well.. there's way to convert torrent to direct download.  icon_idea.gif
*
When a seeder shuts his computer down, or removes the file he was seeding, he effectively leaves the swarm for that particular torrent. When he boots up the computer, gets online and boots up utorrent with the file on, he then rejoins the swarm as a seeder.

If you haven't forward your ports for your torrent client, you may wish trying to do that first and see if it helps matters. http://portforward.com/english/routers/port_forwarding/

You'll have to set up the port on your router as well as on your torrent client. It takes a bit of effort and study, but it's a one-time thing.

For example, here's the instructions for setting up a dlink modem-router with utorrent: http://portforward.com/english/routers/por...0B/Utorrent.htm

Your modem and torrrent client is probably listed on that site.

Anyone noticed a change in their line rate? For the past week, mine has been double of what it used to be, and I did not do any upgrading. However ookla still shows my max dl speed to be around/over 4000kbps. Maybe streamyx has too many 8meg ports lying around, so they shoved me onto one and throttled my connect to 4meg speeds blink.gif

Port forwarded, using open port between 10000 and 11000 but the speed doesn't seem go higher
*
You can only use ONE specific and unique port number, not various ports in a range (10000 and 11000). Suggest to run the test to see if your port has been properly forwarded. Set your half-open connects to a decent level...100 or 200 should be enough.

Also the dl speeds u get are also dependent on the number of seeders and the speeds they set, as well as your sharing ratio.

Be patient and determined...Years ago I was boggled too when trying to set up my torrents. We live and learn smile.gif

Hello there, 4MB Streamyx user here. Currently my download is very slow, around 100KB/s, streaming videos like youtube at 360p only and stuttering. I log in into my router it states that my downstream is 2048 kpbs as if Streamyx suddenly reduce my rate as advertised. It should be around 5120 kpbs. So is it just me or it affects all of you guys as of now?
*
Same thing happened to me and others before. Your port has been "miscapped". Phone 100, tell them of your downstream speed and insist that they rectify it immediately.
