hi all,

Bank Rakyat is not protected by PIDM but according to this website, it is protected by government under Ministry of Finance...can anyone help confirm this?

https://ringgitplus.com/en/fixed-deposit/Ba...-Account-i.html

thank you!

Its true. So what is it that you want to know. laugh.gif

QUOTE(munkeyflo @ Oct 22 2014, 12:41 PM)
Yea, FD is more like savings for the extra cash in hand and not really investment. Lately also not following the promos already cause playing with DCI. laugh.gif

Properties these days quite high price already, still can get so high return?  thumbup.gif Maybe I should look into it.
*
High risk high return.

QUOTE(bbgoat @ Oct 22 2014, 12:53 PM)
FD is not for those in wealth accumulation mode like our Captain said. tongue.gif

DCI ?

Property is good to go in but unsure which one. Penang property getting higher & higher. But still good to spread out some bullets.  biggrin.gif
*
FD is old man tools , that is for those not willing to take risk. Best property is landed one, but location also matters. I heard banks rejection of property and car loan quite high nowadays. Talking with a developer a few days ago, it seems one of his project has a rejection rate of 50%. doh.gif

You are very modest !  notworthy.gif

From the ideas and actions you have taken, you seem to be a seasoned person on FD. So do post more to share your ideas.  thumbup.gif  rclxms.gif

The Captain has been on/off and travelling for sometime now. So he should post more to share on his unique style and insights !  rclxms.gif

Ah Boom has been good "at running a tight ship" (as you put it). So other than burning midnight oil (still doing that ?), do post more as well !  rclxms.gif

Not forgetting our good guy Magician, Moderator to be and other unnamed contributors .................. tongue.gif

All leng lui you will reply immediately. laugh.gif Make sure you dont get suspended by moderators wannabes.

I was at HLB yesterday but only noticed placard for 15 mths / 3 mths fd. Premier Banking was empty of staff and customers. I got a feeling that this must be the most unfriendly bank with nobody minding you.

There are many HLB Priority Banking centres and if you are not a regular, they are not so friendly. The other day I went to a HLB Priority Banking centre and ask the teller if I must take a Q number. Both the tellers look at me in a funny way (normal lah, I'm ususally dressed like a VCD seller, wearing T-shirt, slippers with sling bag). One teller then ask for my NRIC so they can check with their system if I got Priority Banking status. Only after checking she entertained me and was then nicer to me and even tried to persuade me to stick with them when they found out the amount I was withdrawing.
*
You dont happen to wear eye patch tongue.gif
If you placed people in front of banking hall, then must make sure they entertain customers lah.

QUOTE(bbgoat @ Oct 24 2014, 12:50 PM)
Must be you complain too much la, good guy !  brows.gif

Recently I got food tray given for FD placed in HLB.  rclxms.gif
Actually I am not sure if she is a she except Captain mentioned "sis" in earlier post.

For HLB, showing the priority debit card will be sufficient instead of showing the ic for them to check. I use it to jump queue and go straight to the PB counter (normal branch not PB branch of HLB).  smile.gif

She is the originator of the famous "musical chair" quote, you no respect like a common leng lui. vmad.gif
Nowadays i am very kiasi of being Priority / Premier Banking, as the RMs usually try to waste my time promoting their products.

Captain called everybody sis or bro as he is actually a very young man.

Oh, its not aimed at Ah Flo, our favourite lenglui. wub.gif

Pension card can get what benefit ? So you are formerly gomen servant? In the papers today, it seems customers deposit are at an alltime low. No wonder all the banks scrambling for deposit in compliance with Basel requirements. Hope the promos will continue as have FDs maturing next month until next January.

Our friendly Good Guy Magician is lucky. This promo is slightly better than UOB's 12 mth 4.05% (eff rate 4.055%). So his bullets will have its full firing power. Even BR has increased the rate to 4.1% when his FD is maturing there. While I have been withdrawing from BR for last few months. Ha ha ha.  But for new maturing one, will still keep some in BR for the 4.1% rate and monthly interest.  rclxms.gif  rclxms.gif
*
Sir Ah Goat, anything less than 4.1%, wont interest me so most probably will maintain at old place. laugh.gif

Must be getting old, just issued a cheque which from an old redundant cheque book last Thursday. Bank called and frankly I was like ah...ah.. Wonder whether considered as bounced cheque? doh.gif

Penang people are lucky. All banks are closed by within walking dstance or if not less than 10 minutes driving distance within down town. UOB is the only bank I know that can allow you to carry out any FD transaction anywhere in Malaysia. UOB Kelawai Rd has free parking and own compound and it is safer too if one carries cash.

On MBB 4% paying updront interest, assuming the interest paid monthly and earn 3.1% monthly, the net interest earn is 4.094%. If not mistaken I saw somebody reported 4.19% or am I wrong? Salute Gen-x energy to read through 66 pages...
*
From my understanding, its 12 month up front paid interest, not monthly interest.

Thanks for the info, gonna be useful as for this few months has a number of FD maturing. 4.15% for 9 months is a very good deal provided the music does not stop early.

Gen-X Captain, not gonna comment on it after kena flame kaw kaw.

I have been on the sideline for a few months already, gathering my funds also in eFDs. Now is my mating season, oops, musical chair routine for the next few months. Nowadays, my funds is on the downtrend catering to my children wants and needs. Also setting aside fund for contribution to EPF yearly x 2 account. Setting quite high target in EPF contribution so that passive income will 2X existing income so can early retirement , fly here n there like captain.

For RHB, needs to find out whether really need CASA. Just dont like too many accounts in various banks lying around.

I know that one lah. I m talking contribution max as an employee that is tax free income. doh.gif
Employee contribution is tax free upto limit 6k inclusive of insurance purchases.

guy3288 I m not sure company is allowed to pay 50% as it will be above the limit and will be considered as employee remuneration and goes into employee EA form as income.

Standing my ground at RHB. Bank Manger and staff very friendly.

However being very kiamsiap, not willing to open saving account with yearly card fees. So adamant on opening BSA account and was given the excuse that cards no stock on BSA. Still laying siege at RHB.

Thank You
*
Its 6 months 4.00% 9months 4.15% with required Saving Account needed for interest crediting. Dont ask me why its needed?
BSA or Basic Saving Account is to ensure we are not saddled with any yearly fees such as debit card fees and the likes.

Just some shopping vouchers. Thanks to the info provided by you guys here, we are all now better equipped. It's the same for the OCBC banker's cheque fee. I will be getting back the amount that I paid for FD upliftment. Just few ringgit but it's the principle that counts.
*
Thats right, its not few ringgit issues, its the matter of standing up for what is right.

*
If no debit card because you said dont wan loh...if passbookless and no atm card then how to check account ? Heh..heh.. you need to go RHB beg for Atm debit card . doh.gif
Normally most banks will tend to discourage opening of BSA, but like I said, insistence and perseverance will pave the way.

Basic Sav Acct (option 1) is RHB BSA .

But hang on...we need the atm card for what purpose?  The RHB 9m 4.15 will credit the interest on every month or only at the maturity date?
*
It will credit interest on maturity to casa. Why, dont know leh?

For BSA its important that you choose Option 1 as no yearly charges for ATM card. Option 2 has yearly RM8 fees.

BSA is a mandatory saving account that Bank Negara requires all banks to offer. It has limited withdrawal per month so wont be that useful as a main savings account. Last time we applied for it due to lower Giro charges.

In fact i dont see them debiting my account for ATM card, of course didnt really check.

I m in need of transferring my funds from BR to RHB as my FD mature on this Friday. Since BR dont issue Banker Cheque nowadays, my option is limited. Anyone does Rentas with BR before ? Will be loosing 3 days interest if unable to sort it out. mad.gif
