But for each cert they printed theĀ  account is different (affin, scb) except HLB. HLB all same no. (eg 123456789) So no, I dont have new account no with HLB.

My question is can I ask affin and scb to do the same like HLB? Print same account no on my next fd?
*
Fren, you really number guy..., biggrin.gif this number thingy is not subject to request one..Some banks like MBB sometimes also got same account no diff cert no, i also got a few FD account no with MBB. Why so kinky with numbers ? If playing 4 D then understand loh.. drool.gif

Edit: just check my records, MBB got few account no due to different branch i deposited. Other banks which I deposite in same branch only 1 account no and different cert numbers.

Cause my parents making will. And they do not want to pay lawyer anymore if place new fd (you need to pay lawyer to update the will)

So if they put new fd in say scb, scb will give them new cert with new account no. So if they update the will with the new fd, they need to pay lawyer.

That is why they want to know if they can get all same account no from the same bank. That way, no need to pay lawyer.
*
Oh.. thats why I ask so got new angle to think about.

Like that BR, OCBC, MBB practise same account number but different cert number. SCB have to ask guys there, but basically must deposit in same branch. Suggest then before deposit to ask counter or RM before depositing, dont think that hard to inquire. Particulars must be the same of course, meaning if single depositor then all must be single depositor. I wont know whether will can enforced joint deposit account.

Now you mentioned parents, joint account with either to sign in most banks have succesion policy, meaning if one konk, another can withdraw.

SCB not possible..even worse, the numbers are not in sequence too..
*
So then better not put in SCB for that purpose or....can use standing instruction for upliftment on maturity to specific account number.

Statement based is actually better than cert.

Statement
- your joint name party quietly withdraw the money, next month knew already when statement comes. While there is one bank does send letter to inform particular FD has been uplifted once the uplifting is made. So cannot "quietly" withdraw.

Cert
- no statement, forever don't know your joint party has withdraw the money if you don't hold on the cert.
Even you have the cert, the joint party can report it as a loss, and replace with another and withdraw, and your old cert is invalid, and forever think you still have the money with a invalid cert.  laugh.gif

Also, with cert, when old time, may forget where it placed already, and may forget how many cert has been placed.
Statement, everything clear in a page.
*
Statement based is good as usually old people sometimes misplaced their FD cert, sometime keep a bit here and there, at last dont remember how may cert they have. The best is statement plus cert.

If want to report the FD cert is lost, the bank has to get verification and confirmation from all joint names of FD
depositors listed on the FD cert. One party cannot make a valid report that the FD cert is lost (unless it is single name).

For example, If Ah Goat, Uncle Magic and I have a joint name FD cert, and Ah Goat holds the FD cert.
Now, if Uncle Magic has a bad intention and he wants to withdraw all the money and run away to Caribbean Islands
by cheating to the bank that the cert is lost, then the bank will need to get confirmation from Ah Goat and me that
the cert is actually lost.

Good example of "Good" guy wanted to go to Carribean Island.  tongue.gif  I have fond memories of Puerto Rico, Virgin Island and its surrounding islands (tax free haven island for perfumes etc).  rclxms.gif

Losing FD cert is really a trouble. Last time years ago, MBB even asked me to do a police report !  mad.gif  But UOB and maybe some other banks do not need FD cert to uplift which is easier in a way but could have other issues.  biggrin.gif
*
Ah Boom ah.. you got wrong person running to Carribean Island mad.gif It Ah Goat lah..
I remember once BR issuing receipt type instead of cert but later revert back. OCBC using receipt type so lose also nevermind, no need to sumpah people.. laugh.gif

As far as I knew, you only can withdraw online if the FD is placed via online in the first place.

You can't withdraw online if the FD is placed over the counter.

Also online transaction limit to third party (GIRO) is set at Rm10k/20K limit by default.
*
Usually online eFD , I placed from my MBB saving account as the funds came in, in 5k batches. As usually it is on board rate (low rate) , I would accumulate it until 50k before reassigning it to whatever promo is available. Since it is my primary account, ibg has no role in it. I would transfer it to my current account (no limit between same name / bank account) before writing a check for Fd placement.

I scattered my FD to multiple small FD, ie:

1,000 for 1 month
1,000 for 3 months
3,000 for 6 months

For the purpose of ease of withdrawing during emergency.
It has now grown to extent it is all over the place.
Would you guys take it out and move it to another for the hassle or let it be?

Ie, if a bank offers better rate, when the rate expired, did you guys take out the fund and move to another bank?

I find it a little too troublesome lol
*
Depend on the amount loh.. if earn too little then not worth it..

Hi to all FD master,

Currently I'm placing FD using M2U, what is the best method to transfer my cash if let say I wish to enroll 12 month UOB 4.05% FD? Buy banker cheque from Maybank for safety purpose or open a SA at UOB then only perform online transfer after that? Thanks for answering! smile.gif

Depend on amount, MBB banker cheque more than RM5

Correct me if i am wrong. IBG to UOB SA and then transfer to FD is not considered as a fresh fund, right?
*
Technically its not considered as fresh fund. Though some banks sometimes closed one eye.

Hi all sifus here,

My current FD is placed with PBB at an super low FD rate. Can i withdraw tat FD in bank draft and put in into my saving account with CIMB and make a bank draft in CIMB immediately or instantly with tat fund, so that my fund now come from CIMB instead of PBB, in case the MBB branch i going to visit insist my FD fund for the under counter 4% FD must be from tat 3 banks.

Thanks all.
*
Bank draft is like cheque need time to clear. Why not go direct to MBB and find out? I thought 4% dont need fund from 3 banks?
You can Rentas it in the morning, and be able to buy Bank Draft in the evening. Alternate option Giro across but got slight delay.

Refer to 1st page, Uncle Ah Boom post.

few months ago....was told of same thing at Ambank.
cannot...have to transit out to other bank electronically/ cheque.
then transfer back to Ambank electronically from other bank or cheque.
they said my fund can be tracked thru NRIC.....Ambank to other bank, then other bank to ambank = fresh fund.
unsure of now or other branches/bank.
*
When it mentioned fresh fund, then its meant for fresh fund. laugh.gif
What is suggested is discreetly do it to circumvent the conditions, it depends on personnel manning the counter whether they really check. Officialy its no no of course. Dont need ask, as whats told does not meant its quotable. Tis the reason I dont like too much conditions attached to FD deposit as not willing to play deceit games.
