Hi Guys,

Just went to have a gynae check up after months of heavy bleeding and cramps.
Then the gynae did a scan and urine test, she says i have fibroids build up in my uterus.
That what causing it to bleed heavily and abnormal pain/cramp.
This is also causing me not being able to conceive.
Now the doctor advise is to have a pap smear test and check the blood next monday.
Then finally is to remove the fibroids thru operation.
So sad after hearing this but glad i found out the reason.
Do any of u have this problem/experience.
Bcoz the gynae says its common among gals.
Please advise.

Please see another Dr from another place to get a second opinion before you go for any operation.

Know of two ladies with such problem. After operation everything ok. But you need to be careful in the future. So dont worry as long as early detection and proper treatment.

I would suggest getting a second opinion especially on the operation. Not sure what this topic. So, can't really share.

oh, dont fret much..
fibroids are actually quite common in most women. depends on your age also.
i had them as well, but it was removed last year, when i gave birth.
it's harder to conceive with them, but it doesnt mean you cant. once they're removed, you should be able to conceive better.
i didn't know i had them until i went to my gynae when i suspected i was pregnant. still delivered and removed it during my delivery.
since you found out early, you can have an opt to remove it then try for your baby after some time.
you can ask your gynae, they should be able to tell you more.

Recommend that u see Dr Jason (O&G) at Sunway Medical. My wife saw him after her Gynae was not sure what was 'wrong' with my wife.

He is detailed and takes the time to explain to you but warning, his waiting time is VERY long. You have to queue for a number at 8.30 am althiough he only comes in around 10 am.

Do get second or third opinion before any operation.

God Bless.

First recommendation especially from private hospital is "operation". When hospitalized for operation, they let you stay for observation but when you threatened to change hospital, the next day they have operation scheduled nod.gif

Get another opinion, I heard maybe operation is not required .... wink.gif

Do allow me to shed some light on fibroids. The operation to remove fibroid is called myomectomy. In my opinion, operation should not be the first opttion on the list especially in someone who wishes to conceive and had not been successful.
Myomectomy may bleed a lot, especially when it was not pre treated with some medication that can shrink it. There are a lot of options out there. If there is profuse bleeding during the operation, to save the life of the patient, we might end up taking the uterus away. Which also means there is no way for the lady to be pregnant in future.
Do read up some other options for treatment of fibroid, and i suggest you to seek another gynae's advice.
There are medical treatment for it, of cos there are some surgical treatment which we use radiological method to block the artery supplying the fibroid and shrink it and so forth. Do seek other options of treatment.

And one of the forumer is right. Having fibroid doesnt mean you cannot conceive. There are different locations of fibroid. But if it is pointing inside the uterus, yes, it may affect the implantation of the embryo. If it does not distort much of the architectural structure inside the uterus, it is likely you may conceive. Afterall, during pregnancy, the fibroid shrinks and it is easier to be taken out if caesarean the route of birth for the baby.

Hope this information helps.

According to my wife's gynae here, fibroids are usually left alone unless its necessary to take it out (due to life threatening or preventing conception). Even if during a csec birth, its better to leave it alone if possible.

So yes, first option should not be operation. Do seek a second opinion.

Hi Guys,

i have gone to 3 doctors after discovering i have fibroids.
all of them suggested that i have it removed thru operation.
i have taken medication and also injection to reduce the size of the fibroids.
the doc says it will reduce by 30% after the injection.
But the whole process might be 2-3 months.
at the moment due to the low hemoglobin i cant do operations.

due to my conditions, all my friends and relative are starting to be aware/research of this fibroid thingy.
i wish someone could have told me earlier before i am with my condition today.
i could have done few vaginal scan and also pap smear.
because its like my first time hearing fibroid n it really scared the shit out of me..

so girls if u have continous bleeding and painful periods...
please go and check gynae

Sorry to "restart" this post.

My wife has diagnosed with Fibroids (size 2mm) before pregnancy, during pregnancy of approximate 10 weeks we'd a miscarriage.

During scan we noticed the Fibroid grows to size of 6mm. We'd checked with 6 Gyne (including Sunway Dr Jason), 5 is suggesting to go for another try, 1 is suggesting to go for removal operation.

We are so devastated till now....any good advise?

so sorry for your lost...
2 mm fibroid is consider small by the way..
but during pregnancy it will shrink during the 9mths pregnancy.. due to low estrogen.
when u are due to giv birth, doctor will remove the fibroid on the same time...
hope that helps..

I think 2mm is not possible, it should be 2cm for it to be detectable during ultrasound and for the gynae to let you know.
And just to share with everyone because seems like most of the ppl that commented here has misunderstood the fibroid condition.
It is quite common and I had just gone through the myomectomy surgery (open surgery to remove the fibroid). I do not have symptom at all, but detected during ultrasound of my first pregnancy. It grew from 10cm to 15cm. It WILL grow rapidly during pregnancy because of the hormone. and definitely WILL NOT shrink. And definitely doctor will not remove it during c-sec because the fibroid to avoid hemorrhage.
And to go through pregnancy with fibroid is very risky and it will cause miscarriage or preterm labour. I did had a miscarriage (but it's due to blighted ovum) and then I consulted 3 different ob/gyn and all advised me to remove the fibroid. And so I did.

Can read more about it here : http://www.womenshealth.gov/publications/o...e-fibroids.html

If anyone wanted more information which hospital/doctor I went to, can drop me a PM regarding this. I would be happy to share and help.

Good luck.

Hi Kelly, I hope you are fine and in good health now. smile.gif

My wife also has the same problem as you.
We went to a specialist clinic and the doc recommended a surgery to remove it.
May you share with us your experience?

1) How big is your fibroid?
2) Where is it located on your uterus?
3) If you able to go back in time, would you still opt for surgery?
4) Are you able to conceive now?
5) How old are you during your surgery and during your pregnancy after the surgery?
6) Do you have any complications during pregnancy?
7) How much in total for surgery removal
8) Where did you do your surgery?
9) Any good gynae docs to recommend to us for second opinion?

To be frank, we are quite depress now. The hope of having our own children like being thrown to the ground.
