This is a really good phone. Such a waste Xiaomi only put 1GB ram on it. The battery charger just awesome, no more power-bank or wall charging, means can play with the phone all day long. Needless to say the perfect size and superb camera.

The biggest issue for this phone is the ram management, it cause random crash on game like Dead Trigger 2, Fifa 14, Asphalt 8, Summoners War and maybe more, its so so annoying.

Any solution to solve this (not clean master etc, it wont help)? Sick of waiting solution from Xiaomi really.

receive 1s today
do not have the symptom that bluecat68 was saying,
perhaps its lemon ?

quite good the build quality
was having a tough time getting the back cover off, despite
enormous strength the phone did not flex whatsoever

Okay I'll go try first then reply again to see if it works smile.gif

And the phone is constantly showing around 200MB of RAM available all of the time even with no apps running, considered normal?
*
not sure about your settings

new phone received today, with whatsapp running in the background
around 350mb

Tried it just now, same thing still happens. Locked down FB, Messenger and Kuwo. The Messenger got shut down again when I am playing music and replying at the same timeĀ  sad.gif
Not sure if I'm the only one, but even my previous Lenovo A889 using MTK, it lags less than the Redmi 1S. Didn't game with it so not sure about the gaming performance though.
hmm... My phone is pretty clean I would say, running a custom theme downloaded from the Mi Theme store. Tried using default theme but the RAM usage seems pretty same so decided to use the custom theme. Anyways I noticed this ram issue since the first day I received the phone, didn't bother with it at first as I thought it wouldn't affect performance. Now the lag and auto shutting down apps really bother me as it greatly affects the user experience.

Did you update the UI to latest or it was updated in factory already?
*
try to run fb check free ram
then run kuwo (with fb already running) check free ram
then run messenger (with fb and kuwo already running) check free ram
just to troubleshoot is it low on ram or other things

have a Lenovo s930, what you say is true about MTK,
but on 1s I feel the scrolling, etc is a little bit fluid, maybe its cpu
or its the lcd digitizer

my phone is less than 24 hour old, just unbox today, running stock factory, rom v27

If you don't understand what I just posted and need to ask how, its better not to do it yourself since there are many steps involved. I feel that adding a swapfile should be a last resort since the 1S should have enough memory in the first place. There is another workaround which does not involve adding swap and I'm looking into it.

maybe you can post here for the benefit of other
preferably no need to root
many thanks

Just finished hardcore test lol. I think that's it, scare will spoil the phone and mmc. I am using 8GB mmc for the swap only.

Best result as below, I open Kuwo + TTpod + Build in music player + huge size Racing game at the same time, its running smooth without lag. But when I try put in another music player, the game crash before race start  yawn.gif  yawn.gif

Any serious bug?
And "Previous AOSP ROM: is not crap.
I use it for over 2 weeks already and its perfomance is superb.
No need use RamExpander or mod. The ram management is very good. No lag in games, no lag in Settings or Homescreen. thumbup.gif

8 GB MMC = less cost if anything happen to the mmc  tongue.gif
Nobody say it was a secret  sweat.gif  sweat.gif . Yes I notice the tutorial above but I found it a bit complicated for a beginner Android user like me. Below is what I did in "easier" way. Source : shared by my expert friend

I am not responsible in any way for damaging your device. Although this is fully tested method do it at your own risk.

Step 1) Root your 1s and buy a class 10 memory card. I am using 8GB for the swap because I feel +1GB memory is more than enough for my usage.

Step 2) Download Roehsoft Ram Expander, it cost RM 15 in Playstore, pay or download the xxxx version from this website : http://9androidapps.com/, your choice.

Step 3) Install and open the software, first adjust the SWPFILE value to the memory size you would like to "add", you can see my value is set to 1000MB because I think it is good enough for my phone. Max you could go is 4000MB. Next set the SWAPPINESS value between 40 - 99. The higher the value the faster the Swap process, hence more chance to damage your sd card  sweat.gif . I am using 70 here, so far so good.

Step 4) Take a look at the RAM FREE value, it shown your current ram information. Finally touch the SWAP ACTIV at the top, wait for it to process. You're done , now refer to the bottom TOTAL FREE value and see your phone fly  thumbup.gif

The software also come with a widget that display memory infor. Just go to your widget screen and drag it out to the home screen.

This is not a full solution for our phone ram issue, still hope Xiaomi could rectify it soonest possible. Thanks for reading.
