bluecat68 I think I figured out your flashing problem. There must not be any spaces in your rom directory on the harddisk. And there is a space where you put your rom "D:\ALL TEMP" so stick it in D:\TEMP instead.

Minimal ADB and Fastboot is not the same as Miflash. Miflash has a windows gui but also threw up many alarms from my antivirus/malware apps. The Minimal ADB is a much smaller download and installed much faster.

The path variable looks ok. Really strange.

I just connected my phone in fastboot mode and it shows up as "Android phone" under device manager. And the windows usb device icon shows up in the taskbar. I rebooted my phone by taking out the battery and replacing it and did not encounter any issues.

What if you plugged in the phone to the pc after it has boot up normally again (not in fastboot mode) and see if the pc can detect the phone. Maybe you have to do it at least once so that windows installs the usb driver for Android phones.

What apps are you running and which ones shut down. Its a well known problem that the memory management of the 1S is poor so apps will close down if you are multitasking.

Thats right. Theres no adding ram to the 1s. Its a workaround by adding swapspace to the sd card by creating a swap partition or a swapfile. What this does is similar to the windows swapfile which will increase virtual memory.

The downside is that the sd card will fail earlier because of the extra reads/writes.

If you don't understand what I just posted and need to ask how, its better not to do it yourself since there are many steps involved. I feel that adding a swapfile should be a last resort since the 1S should have enough memory in the first place. There is another workaround which does not involve adding swap and I'm looking into it.

There is no such thing as adding ram. What he is doing is adding swap space on an Android which is similar to configuring the paging file settings on Windows.

I don't follow, if you are afraid of degrading the mmc why did you use the 8Gb mmc for the swap?

How did it come out so quickly? Does this pass antivirus/malware checks?

Are you using an 8Gb sd card or the 8Gb internal storage for swap?

After using the phone, I can safely say that the 1S is poor-fair on battery life in general.
Browsing mostly text/pics and gps apps on wifi I can get about a little over 5 hours continuous, on 3g about 3.5hours. I don't believe a poster on the official forums who said that he got 1.5 days of battery life for normal use which included browsing over 3g for a few hours, 1hour of gaming etc.

This review said the video loop test gave slight over 5hours.

Turning on/off wifi/data manually helps and I can get through a day without charging which is just about good enough for me.

The CM11 mod for the 1S looks like a ripoff from an Italian forum(htcmania.com) and in true china fashion, no acknowledgement given to the real authors but cofface is acting like its their own work. The CM11 port is still not stable and has some serious bugs. And who knows what the china guys did to the rom, they could've installed viruses for all we know.

About adding swap to the sd card to free up more memory, its highly recommended to use an app to automate the steps (as shown in the previous page) . The manual directions on the official forums (I posted the link earlier) is for people who know what they are doing and not for people who are unfamiliar with linux/android.

Its miui v6 which is still buggy for the 1S. I think the Mi3 has it as stock but theres a downgrade procedure to miui v5 which tells you how much people like it.

I opened a few apps and they worked differently this time as well. Nothing got killed or suspended which normally happens. I think theres more memory >400Mb after restarting the phone as well. Now that is odd.

Could you explain how you manage to reference the spec sheet with the cpu-z results to say that it is an 8228?

Theres nothing in cpu-z which says that it is an 8228 (it says that it is an 8226). Cpu-z does not give any additional info that can show that the redmi 1s is using the 8228.

I guess I spoke too soon. Navigator crashed with 2 other apps (not games) open.

Edit- confirm that the problem low apps being stopped/killed is still present. Free memory very low, 2xxMb. Very rarely the free memory will be a lot higher and the phone runs well.

I doubt the 1S has an overclocked 8226, it would be too easy to find out from disassembly.
The release date of 8226 is 2013 and 8228 is 2014, so maybe cpu-z is slow at updating but at this point cpu-z(and another app I tried) cannot tell the 8226/8228 apart.

When you posted the link to the specs, there was nothing there to prove that cpu-z info for the redmi 1s is the same for 8228. What I wanted to know what how you managed to reference 8228 with the link you posted.

In future if you don't know something, kindly just say "I have no idea" instead of posting links or long cut and paste posts.
