Actually im glad they sell Redmi1S in India.
As you can see, Indian Dev is very active on XDA.
(our dev also helpful but not many of them)
My experienced on xda, I can see most of the best kernel or custom rom are coming from them.
So, I think we will see a lot of custom rom or bug fix will arise for our device soon. thumbup.gif
*
Do these developers need the Redmi source code to develop custom roms?

Some battery info for those who are interested in battery life, after testing the 1S battery during the holiday I found out that I can get about 5.5hrs from browsing using wifi mostly using Chrome and google maps from a fully charged battery. Turning off wifi and using only 3g data for browsing, I estimate about 3.3hrs from a full charge.

The 3g signal during testing was good at 4 bars, wifi was weak-fair. The screen brightness was turned down to around 40-45%.

As far as I know (dev or not dev, please correct me if I wrong tongue.gif ), the most important is the kernel source code.
Without it, dev cannot bake a custom rom that based on AOSP rom like cyanogenMod etc.
Most of the custom rom available right now for Redmi1S is based on MIUI rom itself.
So yeah, custom rom can be develop based on current rom (no need source code) and also based on other rom (need source code).

Which version do you use? hmm.gif
.......
*
I flashed it to global v36.0. I didn't tune it much yet. I read some posts saying that the China rom is better at battery life.

I don't think people would want to stick with only versions of MIUI and would want real custom roms like cynogen.

Feel like a real good deal later, a bit worry for the 1gb ram, do you guys face any problem with the 1gb ram?
*
Its not just the amount of memory, its the poor ram management of the redmi that is messing things up. There is normally 200-350Mb free when all the apps are closed. When you have 2 or more apps open, apps will start swapping. So you won't be able to listen to music while browsing for example. I don't know how quickly the big problems like battery life and ram management will be addressed but it doesn't look good. I was planning to get another redmi for family members but I will get them something else. No point risking 2 phones if the problems will take a long time to get solved if at all.

Many reviews never brought up the simple issues of poor battery life, overheating, poor ram management and I can guess why. Some are company shills who are flogging a hot product or scalpers. The were posters boasting about the long battery life which I can only guess they heavily tweaked their rooted phones possibly with custom roms or they just plain lied.

but since the miui is updated weekly, still not yet resolved ?
*
Weekly updates doesn't mean things are good. It might mean a ton of bugs need squashing and customers are the alpha/beta testers. And they are more interested in building up their v6 MIUI and accumulating more bugs in the process.
To be fair, Xiaomi did fix a big problem of losing connection when 2 simm cards are installed recently.

Is the modified China better than the global rom? What is the big difference?

ok, this bring a lot of worries as I just ordered a 1s
so once turn on the phone first time, should I straight away
update the miui ?
*
I plan to wait for a while and see how Xiaomi fix the problems. Hopefully they release the kernel source code soon so users can play around with Android vanilla or mods.
The latest rom version is v37, and theres a Malaysian version for v37. The earlier versions had the simm card problem I mentioned and possibly a heat problem even during charging.

You can check it from China MIUI forum. There's GPU rendering one of the benefit and two sims can connect to 3G network. Also better ram management and battery life

I don't read Mandarin so I wouldn't know where to find it. Using web translation would take ages and I'll probably some important detail in techy threads in a language I don't understand.

3.开启官方root Native root has been enabled
4.优化网速和WiFi optimized network speed

Where did you find this rom and where is it? What version is this rom roughly equal to compared to the stable versions? Is it the work of Xiaomi or some enthusiast build?

There is an AOSP mod in the redmi 1s forum but its based on v23.0:

I've been reading the official forums, is the battery and memory problem widespread? Anyone face these issues? Surprised to read some people feel the mtk redmi is better. Hope my phone no problem when it comes, it's for my dad.
*
The short battery life and low memory is so common but doesn't get mentioned in reviews. Battery life can be improved to reasonable levels by tweaks. Low memory not so much because miui is the problem and its not going to be solved so long as it gets bigger every version.

The bottom line is that apps will either get suspended or killed if you multitask. You can't even listen to mp3's and browse at the same time.

Only the Mi3. Note can buy N buang like Bata and Potong.

Why is the Note so bad? Is basically the same thing as the 1S except for a bigger screen, higher res camera and more important 2Gb memory. So it doesn't have the low memory issues as much as the 1S.

Nope. I'm running AOSP, no problem at all
*
What do you mean by 'not ROM builder'? Is it something that is done by Xiaomi or not?

How could the 1S have an AOSP version when Xiaomi themselves have not released the source code?
Where did you get this AOSP version and are there any importants steps to install it?
Its time you provided some links and more info about it. If an AOSP version was really available, it would be all over the official redmi forum.

Note is rubbish because of the Mediatek chip. Look at the new competitor, Moto G Gen 2, 1GB of RAM but it is able to multitask.

Its Semi AOSP based on Modified V23.0 ROM. ROM builder is a custom ROM builder that makes the ROM from the open source code, not modify the Stock ROM. Xiaomi said that they will release the source code for Redmi 1S at the end of the year. Expect CM11/CM12/CML to be on our phones. That gives us the best performance we can get out of this phone. The performance will be better than the current Moto G/ G V2. Watch Moto G reviews and imagine the performance of AOSP on Redmi 1S brows.gif
.......
*
When you say the cpu is poor, is that because it is actually causing problems like apps running too slowly? There aren't many complaints about the performance from what I can see.

I don't follow what you are saying since you did not answer my post. Again where you you get your rom? If it is not this one, the where is it? In case I'm not being clear enough,
post the link to the AOSP rom you are using because it shouldn't exist since Xiaomi did not release the source code yet.

Xiaomi said they were going to release kitkat for the 1S at the end of the year, I didn't hear anything about the source code being released.

CPU is poor because the GPS locks really slowly and 3.5mm heaphones jack output quality is worse than a low end Snapdragon phone. Yes, it is indeed the AOSP ROM i'm using . i know it's based on V23, but it doesnt matter as long it works. The china forumers said the source code will be released at the end of the year. Anyways, if they do not release it, its time for me to get a OnePlus One or Moto G 2nd Generation.
*
Bah then you shouldn't have said you were running AOSP back here (#308) when you said "I'm running AOSP ROM btw." and then again later.

Thats mean i have to root my phone first is it ??
Contacts -> Settings -> Organize contacts -> configure SIM card.

By the way I ask few times already but no one answer me this. Everytime i start my phone the Mi CLoud will ask me to send something to 33488 to activate my sim card. Is this really necessary ??

Yeah i know i can import number from Sim to phone & then edit number from there but 1) There is a delete option to delete any sim number -> "configure sim card" but error occur. 2) Sim number & phone number appear to together in the contact list.

shakehead.gif  shakehead.gif  shakehead.gif

Also if i can flash the phone without root so which version i should download ??

1. Redmi 1s-WCDMA/CDMA China - Version: JHCCNBF37.0 (V5) ??
2. Redmi 1s-TD - Version: JHFCNBF18.0 (V5)??
or
3. Redmi 1s-WCDMA Global - Version: JHCMIBF36.0 (V5) ??

Thanks first
*
You don't have to root your phone for some rom flashes.
I didn't not create an account for Mi cloud (choose skip option when booting for the 1st time), I think I just denied access for that app so it never asked me again.
Editing numbers on the sim card works without any errors for me.
It better to reflash your new phone because the stock rom may be old and buggy.
The TD version is only for China, it won't work for phones in Malaysia or elsewhere.
The WCDMA China version is configured with Chinese apps/language for China market. The WDMA global one will work for Malaysian customers but it still comes with some extra Chinese apps I think.

Procedure to flash redmi 1s
================
I prefer the Malaysian rom instead of the global one above because it comes without any extra Chinese apps and has google apps preinstalled without too much junk. The latest version is 36.

http://en.miui.com/thread-36919-1-1.html
Recovery Rom: Redmi 1S WCDMA Stable Version (Global) JHCMIBF36.0
Fastboot Rom: Redmi 1S WCDMA Stable Version (Malaysia) JHCMIBF36.0 (* applicable for Malaysia Rom)

Fastboot method- I use this because its simple and I get to wipe everything:
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Download the fastboot rom since it will allow you to wipe the phone.
Download the fastboot driver here:
https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B1eqnVInak...dit?usp=sharing

Follow the simple procedures on this page:
http://en.miui.com/forum.php?mod=viewthread&tid=38688
What you have to do mainly is install the driver and set the path then extract the rom to a directory on the harddisk, before switching on the phone using the right buttons and connecting it via usb cable to the pc.

I chose flash_all.bat to wipe everything since theres nothing to keep on the new phone.

Update method- Easiest method but will not delete junk/unwanted apps on the phone
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I think the "Recovery Rom: Redmi 1S WCDMA Stable Version (Global) JHCMIBF36.0" above should work using the update method.
Version 37.0 WCDMA Global is available but its here:
http://bigota.d.miui.com/JHCMIBF37.0/miui_...8300ab2_4.3.zip

Follow the procedure here:
http://en.miui.com/thread-11242-1-1.html
All you have to do is copy the zip file to the sd card and run the update from the menu. The menu is found in the updater app - select update package.

Mmm my nightmare is continue .. try to flash the phone with fastboot rom (Malaysia v36) but no luck, click the flash_all but nothing, a cmd windows pop-up & close immediately.
If i drag the flash_all bat to the cmd windows and press enter i get this -->
[attachmentid=4125414]

"echo missmatching image & device" !!??

I wonder should i enable usb debugging ?? Pls advise. Thank you.
*
It doesn't look like an error, just the command echoing to the screen. The fastboot will take time (5 minutes?)to complete and if you interrupt it halfway, it will be messed up and the only way to fix it would be to perform a fastboot flash (the other flash method may not work).

To your previous question: https://forum.lowyat.net/index.php?showtopic=2657753

@imbibug Mmm lets make it clear step by step.
First are you saying the fastboot screen will stay like this -->
[attachmentid=4125606]
for like 5 mins ??
*
I'm not sure. I only looked at the command window and it was scrolling while the fastboot flash was running. It will take several minutes and will reboot at the end. If you interrupt anything, it will be messed up. Let the phone reboot at the end and don't touch anything until it finishes.

The sequence is shut phone off, switch it on using vol- and pwr, connect usb cable, let the device be recognize by pc (not sure about this), run flash_all.bat. Then wait.

He's posting some really strange things apart from the 1st few posts in this thead. He didn't know the definition of camera mp which is really elementary, violated his own OP 'rules' by arguing with someone who corrected him, denied running running modded stock rom and said he was on AOSP when I asked him.

.....
I already do flash with the Global version Recovery rom v36 ... its flash without any problem but error still there. Thats why i try to do fastboot flash.
*
From the picture you posted, the cmd window hung at the very first line and did not proceed furthur which is strange. No flashing took place, so your phone should be able to boot normally I think.

Did you correctly set the path? If you open a command window and run the command "path", you should see c:\program files (x86)\Minimal ADB and Fastboot within the output.

If the path is set correctly trying copying the flash_all.bat file in the images directory (maybe the unzip program did not recreate the directories properly) where all the rom files are (directory with gpt*bin files) and run the copied flash_all.bat. Its also suggested in the this thread:
http://en.miui.com/forum.php?mod=viewthread&tid=38688

Make sure your phone has enough juice before flashing.
