QUOTE(wcypierre @ Sep 28 2014, 12:41 PM)
CM11 is stock AOSP + minimal changes though. MIUI has no doubt a lot of changes and will use more resources than CM11.
It may also due to CM11's OOM is more aggressive so it kills apps faster than MIUI.

Android 4.2 uses quite some RAM though, my 1gb RAM xperia uses 800+mb ram on stock and is left with 100+mb  while Android 4.4 is reportedly to be optimized for 512mb RAM phones so its ram usage on stock should be quite low.

Anyway, there's no universal settings that can suit everyone's usage. Feel free to flash to CM if you feel that Xiaomi's default settings are not suited for your usage.
*
You've jumped into this thread a little too late to be giving advise.

1. Miui kills or suspends apps frequently making multitasking difficult which is a top complaint of the phone so the stock rom may have an even more aggressive oom vs CM11.
2. Low free memory does not mean a bloated rom, it could be that the OS does more prefetching or caching. I have more problems running tasks on the 1S compared to an old 512Mb phone. Rom 37.0 improve the amount of free memory on the 1S to around 350Mb but had little effect on the problems with multitasking (low ram issue), which makes me think that Xiaomi doesn't know the root cause of the problem.
3. "there's no universal settings that can suit everyone's usage" - that should be a joke since low memory issues is a top complaint of the 1S which led to the fix in version 43.

Sound good. Time to look for a best talk plan for sim 1 & best data plan to use on sim 2  rclxm9.gif

By the way if i using sim 2 doing GPS and someone call my sim 1 then what happen ?? I can answer the call just like that and the phone will back to sim 2 after the call ??
*
The 1S is a dual standby sim like most (almost all?) dual sim phones. That means when one sim is on a voice call/sms, the other sim will be inactive. So the other sim will either get an out of network error when someone is calling or their call will be routed to voicemail.

Has anyone noticed a decrease in battery life or an improvement on the heating issue on v43.0? I read that the new rom was supposed to work on those problems but I did not notice any improvement.

QUOTE(bluecat68 @ Sep 29 2014, 05:38 PM)
Meaning if i using gps in one sim then the other sim will become unreachable ?? No alert even if someone send me sms ??
......
*
Yes. Its like having one old telecom malaysia phone with an (cable) handset extension (before the days of cellphones) so one one person can use the phone at anytime. You can set up call forwarding on the unused sim to get calls through.

Are you saying that the 2 sim actually active at the same time unless i on call with either one sim ?? Its nothing to do with lose sleep or lose anything but i just dont know how dual sim work.
*
Why don't you google, ask a shop assistant or post on the miui forum? You've been given explanations several times in this thread, can't make it any simpler.

hi all,

just wondering anyone here in the process of opening the back cover
apply too much force and errrr "bend" the phone ?
not trolling here, as the back cover difficult to open, and I want to try 1 color for each day
just don't want to hurt the phone
*
The cover is really easy to open.
Just stand the phone on its head. Jam one fingernail using a finger from the right hand into the notch on the cover and press the right thumb on the mi logo, then pry it open using your fingernail. The cover will be lifted from the corner nearest to the notch and you can just continue opening it.

You can do it using the usb notch and pressing the mi logo again as the fulcrum but the pre-cut notch near the corner is a little easier.

Theres a teardown on the official forums showing the 8228 cpu. The other teardown showing 8628 was for the China tdma model.

v41,v41.1 and v43 released quite fast, all within a month. Just hope they don't push out updates just for the sake of increasing the numbers without rectifying the major problems.
*
41.1 and 43 is practically the same. 41.1 was released first in India while 43 is the global version.

CM11 is still has some minor issues. Without the source code, its going to be difficult for the developers to clean up the bugs.

Any comment for the latest update?
*
v45 has fixed the overheating issue but it throttles the cpu when it hits 38C. I notice that it is somewhat slower when there are a few apps open at once. It could be worse (slower)for gamers.

My friend had this problem (or a bug), where any people who called her, was displayed as 'unknown' in her phone.

What is the issue and how to solve it? smile.gif
*
Was she using a redmi note or 1s? I don't think the 1s has this problem.

Same here. Looking for solution too. MIUI v 43.0

The redmi 1s bug has been known for a long time. According to Xiaomi, it cannot be fixed easily so its still a problem.
Check the thread below for a workaround using a number fixer app.

v37 probably got the best battery life... but it's annoying sometimes apps get 'killed' by the system for no reason even with alot of free RAM.

v43 don't have that problem with slightly worse battery life... so it's a little trade off. I have two units with me, one with v43 and another v45
*
Did you measure the power consumption for v45? I looped a 720video at moderate brightness and it still gave 6hr20min so little or no difference there. Browsing might have been worse but I didn't measure.
I think the best stock rom is 37 with some tweaks for the memory issue (not zram).

I need help with my Redmi1S. It's a China set bought from DirectD in June. When I first got it, the phone keeps auto rebooting itself few times a day, especially when I'm on the phone half way, cut off and takes a while to auto reboot.
.....
.....
Other than that, all can use. Just cannot update the software only and sometimes it reboots itself. Now much less auto-rebooting already. Any thoughts on this issue?
*
If its the wcdma model (which it should be if really came from directd) then you should have no problems with the international/Malaysian rom. Your problem doesn't sound normal or common. Fastboot flash the Malaysian rom instead of the Chinese one. The Malaysian one has English/Malay settings and no Chinese apps. Then you can update it with the latest Global 45 via ota. You should typically never ever use Chinese rom because its probably tuned for Chinese networks.

If you're using the stock google keyboard change the input language to include Malay. You can have more than 1 language.

You're welcome. This bug is not new... don't know why xiaomi's not bothered to fix such a basic function.
*
I think the explanation was that the problem was buried deep inside miui and is difficult to fix. Probably only a version jump like miui v6 will fix the problem.

They must be more concentrated on the flagships.
Or less people assigned to the Redmi 1S development team.
*
From the time the 1S came out, the rom was always in beta mode. The recent fixes for heat and low memory was done in a lepas batuk way. Maybe they don't want to spend time on fixes on the 4.3 platform and will focus on kitkat as their first real stable and good rom.

How can I use a 64gb microsd on my redmi 1s? Officially it only supports 32gb but seems like if I format to fat32 I can use a 64gb... How do I do this? Risky ah? sweat.gif
*
You'll lose all your data on the sdcard if you format it. You should be able to format it using the menus on the phone itself, so formatting it that way is idiot proof.

when i plug in my redmi1s to my pc (asus T100 connected via microUSB OTG adapter), the music player drive doesn't appear in my computer. hence i can't transfer any files.
when tested with my motorola motog, my computer shows the music player drive.

however, i can see the emulated xiaomi cdrom drive in my computer. why?  icon_question.gif

Windows should normally auto install the mtp driver when an android smartphone is plugged in I think.

THE MID-END GODPHONE? seriously?? LEL

Its an accurate assessment according to the specs. The theres no other phone with dual sim, sd card slot, >=300ppi resolution, small <=5", snapdragon 400 cpu, OTG usb support, bluetooth 4.0, very good rear camera (high mp does not=good). The only other phone is the Honor 6 which is bigger.
