Not all funds are created equal...so are its returns.

Not a representative sample smile.gif

Go here :

http://www.fundsupermart.com.my/main/fundi...erateTable.svdo

Close your eyes and pick 20 funds. Then plot them and see the return. Unless you have an incredible amount of money, there won't be a lot of difference if you annualize it smile.gif

notworthy.gif good info.....checked....10yrs periods
annualized from 0.53% to 16.76%
lowest 11 < 4%, highest 11 > 12%...average annualized 8.66%
lowest 21 < 5%...average annualize 3.65%
highest 24 > 10%...average annualize 12.51%
annualized variance of top & btm 21 is about 8.8%

then variance in % of Total ROI terms in 10 years? hmm.gif
is it 365% and 1251% and variance 880%?

Or we'll make it a game of chance.. given all these funds, among funds with 10-year track records, what is the probability of picking a fund that will outperform FD rates (ie. 3.9 - 4.2%) ?

Another way of thinking is this : if you bought all 20.. would you do better than FD?

Now if we throw active switching into the mix, how do you know when to switch? and how do we know that active switching will mean more profit?

hmm.gif how do I know when to switch?
for me.....if after 3~5 years, the fund are still not competitive among its peers of the similar mandate.
hmm.gif will switching will mean more profit?
not sure...as there will always be risks associated with UT investment...but I would "Feel" better switching than keeping under achievers (among its similar peers) after 3 ~ 5 years of below pars performance.
for in the end it is the total ROI in the portfolio that matters.

There's no time indication whereby one should switch or not.

Some said use the switching method to "lock" the profit.

sorry off topic.

You don't cover PUT with stocks, only CALL. You cover PUT with cash to cover margin. If you get assigned with PUT, you have to buy the stocks not sell it.

Maybe more people like us go and post in the US stock thread to balance the day-trader and AAPL crowd there.

Can also switch during downturn to a fund that you think can recover better, not just lock profit.

Eastspring Investments Small-Cap Fund
Hwang Select Asia (Ex Japan) Quantum Fund
Eastspring Investments Dana Al-Ilham
Eastspring Investments Growth Fund
Kenanga Growth Fund
RHB-OSK Small Cap Opportunity Unit Trust
RHB-OSK Emerging Opportunity Unit Trust
AMB Ethical Thrust

Before anyone comment, yes, most of them are Malaysia focus. I don't follow modern portfolio theory, which limit risk but also profits. It is ok with me cool2.gif

Anyone know where I can download or extract last 2 years daily fund price? FSM has changed their 3Y chart to daily instead of weekly. I'm using that and now I need to calculate my own weekly average. Thanks.

U can try poking FSM to see if they'll release (assuming U absolve them from any legal issues for your own usage/misusage of the data)
I managed to get a few specific funds' data when i was planning out my "PM --> FSM migration" (which PM funds $ --> which FSM fund) smile.gif
