saru88,

What's your definition of building a prosumer rig really? Could give you some leads to that if we knew what you want. As much as prosumer building went for me, i guess that was it with the Hv20. XLR adapter, shotgun mic, wide angle, lens hood. Looks pretty much like one but still missing features compared to my prosumer cam.

ohh... okay...

actually, i'm thinking to build something with DoF adapter...
now my list is:
1. XLR adapter
2. shotgun mic
3. DoF adapter
4. LCD monitor
5. Matte box
6. Rod support
7. Shoulder support (optional)

something like this...

The list above doesn't sound cheap, unless you get cheap stuff or lotsa DIY involved. How much would you spend each one of those?

actually, i plan to DIY few things tho...
like the Mattebox, Rod Support, DoF adapter...

and the LCD monitor plan to get a crappy 1 to use... and yeah, the whole thing doesnt sound cheap at all...
I will try to make it less than 1k if possible... max 1.5k... i think should be alrite...

I know the quality produced won't be that nice like the real pro-sumer cam...
i'm just trying to built 1 as good as possible to get used to it... at least make a better quality film...

also, i'm planning to DIY the lighting stuff...
i'm gonna start off with shooting some short films and documentaries first once it's partially done...

Ah that's nice. Well at least you know what you want, you'll get started soon! smile.gif As for quality produced by your say, don't worry; prosumer cams don't come included with an external LCD, 35mm adapter and such.

I suggest you get started with sound first, you're already ready to shoot a good one by then.

ya, i know that... those with the 35mm adapter cost more than 20k if it's HD 1... fuii...

well, i'm not really a videography... i would say im an enthusiast...
and i have a few friends who are damn interested in this too, we set up a team to shoot something when we r free... lolx..
it's more to experimental films... need to explore more on angles and stuff... also, editing is important too...

but so far, only i have a HD cam... and another 1 with a JVC SD cam... lolx...

btw, i have a Rode VideoMic with a 3.5mm jack... juz feel that is not that enuff... still looking for a better shotgun mic with decent pricetag...

well, it depends la bro on wut u prefer...

HV30 is using HDV... but if u dun mind AVCHD format, can try Panasonic TM300 or HS300... or even the latest 1 TM700... or maybe Sony XR500, XR520 n XR550...
i own a HS300, actually it's a very good camcorder... low noise during low light, with lotsa manual functions..
but editing AVCHD file is a kill if ur computer is not that powerful...

haha.. i got it 2nd hand... dun think will be selling tho... try Amazon or Ebay... they have it...

-kytz-: ohh.. then i can't help u on this... never tried an HV30 before... but overall HS300 is very good, that's all i can say... i think definitely it's a great rival of HV30...
try to google HV30... they normally have the comparison with a few similar camcorders 1... like camcorderinfo / trustedreview...

good luck in that tho...

Really? Which prosumer cam comes with a 35mm adapter? the HVX is already in the 20s and the EX3 is in the 30s, both without adapters. After moving to the HMC, my options for a 35mm adapter kit are more expensive than what i could fit on to my HV. As for a better mic, try use a boom, sounds good =) However, too bad the RVM runs over 3.5mm cable. Good for run and gun tho. There are always other ways to incorporate voice over video.

Good for your enthusiasm. The more you guys shoot and edit, progress is being made. Having gear without ideas is outta the window!

-kytz-, i believe there are many camcorders beat the HV30 today in terms of image quality. People loved the hv30 not only for the image but for the manual controls too. Unfortunately, most of the cameras shoot in AVCHD which most people hate to edit with. But transcoding them into another format, better yet into better codecs like DVCPRO(HD), Canopus HQ, Prores makes editing a breeze but you gotta bare the file size.

-FuGZ- : actually, i meant changeable lens... 35mm adapter u still need to get 1 for it... XD

ya... im tryin to get a boom mic... but duno which 1 is good and reasonable price for me... lolx... low budget student here...

voice over is okay for documentary type, like interview... but if shooting outdoor scene for documentary, or maybe drama... it's very hard... unless u use a boom pole to record the voice...

yeap, we wanna explore everything... wanna learn more about angle and editing...

we have a lot of ideas n plans, but right now we have limited equipment... as we just started... so during the coming sem break, we will DIY as much equipment as possible... so that we can start our shooting ASAP...

p.s. still awake at this time? XD

hazremi: if u have the money, of coz i7 is great... but sometimes free space of ur hard disk plays an important role too... perhaps my disk space is low, so the editing is slower abit... =P

phantom: haha.. u damn power... but i7 really so expensive now... i'm planning to get a PC with i7 too for editing... waiting for the price to drop.. lolx...

also planning to buy a 2tb external hdd... cost 6XX... to store not just videos but oso other craps... sigh...
