A good & potentially sellable idea. If only somebody would take up the idea here in KL/Selangor.

I remembered those days (early 90s) where you can detect the packs with insert cards. When we've taken out the packs with the inserts, we waited for the next box to be opened. But years after that, it was difficult to ascertained which packs carries the inserts.

The most obvious one was 1992 DC Cosmic cards. When you opened up the box, the top cards has the holograms. The rest are just basic cards. Sometimes the inserts are thicker than than the basic cards, so we just side stack them & see which is thicker than the others. Some guys knows how to squeeze the cards inside the packs & the ones with hologram will have less frictions. But again, those were the days when card collecting was in its infant years.

Share us with your experience arek. How or rather when did you start collecting cards? I was into comics & when the cards came out, I immediately got into it.

Same as me, I'm a comic fan and wanted to buy cards after seeing the Marvel Universe trading card ads. Unfortunately my comic shop didn't bring any in until the DC Cosmic Cards came out. After that i picked up marvel universe series 3 and marvel masterpieces. The only sets i completed during those years was X-men series 2, marvel universe series 4 and star wars galaxy sets.

I lived in Australia for a few years and a seller who wanted to focus on sports cards offered me his entire non-sport stock of over 10,000 cards. That's where i picked up the marvel 1994 and the spider-man sets.

Once i finished college and started working i went to ebay filled in the gaps in my collection.

Well now.. Lucky you.. I mean not everyday that someone would come to you & say,"Hey, you wanna take these entire non-sport cards off my hands at a steal?". Hahaha...

Same thing here. Whatever missing card/s, I'll just check out ebay. Which I'm doing like everyday sometime more than once.

One set I love the most is Skybox Kingdom Come Extra cards. Pictures taken from the now-classic Kingdom Come drawn by the ever great Alex Ross. If you read my previous comments, you'll see what I have & what's missing.

Don't know if you guys consider this a card or not but it's an oversized card I'd say. It's a Jim Lee X-Men #1 given to retailers.

I may be wrong but there are silver and gold holo versions for that special JimLee X-Men cover A to D. I spotted it at Mind SHop Damansara Utama many year back. Back then was RM 99.90 and that sum was a BIG sum back then. It was cling to the glass cabinet where the trading cards are displayed.

Me and the Mind shop staff always tikam the trading cards until we can narrow down which packs have special cards. DC special inserts on top...hmm, i remembered Marvel Masterpiece last two packs have special inserts.

Abt 10 years back, there are those trading cards vending machine at selected shopping malls in Klang Valley and KL. If lucky can find those Marvel special cards for sale. RM 3 - 5 only.

I checked the internet but I couldn't find any mention of a Gold version. Maybe the hologram when put at a different angle would emit a gold color. Look at the photos attached. But then again, you could be right & I could be wrong.

Yeah... I remember the vending machine. There are still around but no longer offers Marvel or anything worth looking.

It was fun collecting trading cards then. Are there still shops selling non-sport trading cards here in Malaysia? It would be fun talking a walk down the memory lane.

Maybe we could pool together & buy a case of the new Marvel issued trading card just like what Bro Arek was thinking. I can put the cards at a friend's shop. He sells comics & comic related items but trading card. Hahaha... Can't blame him cos there's not much market for trading cards nowadays.

You are resourceful. Managed to locate another hologram card which looked like gold relection. Do you have the silver version?

So far I do not know any shops still bringing in comics related trading cards. Now mostly are those anime gaming cards. I almost gone into Gundam War trading cards cuz the illustrations of the mechas are nice. Unfortunately some series are expensive and to get mecha cards are quite hard. Most of time i'll score event or items cards...yuck!

For my Jim Lee X-men, I bought 2 boxes of 36 packs. Each pack has 6 cards (sometimes get 7 cards). Total 216 cards per box. But only managed to create one set of 100 cards with complete specials. The balance 111 cards are extras. Keeping aside till end of year before I open my 2nd box.

My next wishlist would be Marvel Masterpiece Joe Jusko.

Sometimes we are tempted to buy cards or something beyond our means or within our means but becos we buy something expensive, we end up not being able to buy something else (does this statement make any sense?biggrin.gif)

Like me, starting early this month, I've purchased from ebay Marvel Universe Series 2 & 3 hologram sets. Then I bought X-Men Jim Lee hologram set. Before that it was Joe Jusko's Marvel Masterpiece etched 5-card set (Battle Spectra Cards). Day before yesterday, I bought Marvel Universe Series 1 hologram set. I also bought something else which is Ultraman related & some autographs item by my most favourite band. And last weekend found out that Quiksilver is having a "Buy whatever amount & we'll give you back vouchers of the same amount" & bought A LOT of Quiksilver items. Damn I need to stop this spending spree biggrin.gif

BTW, Joe Jusko's Marvel Masterpiece is one of the best sets ever!! And yes I have the silver version of X-Men #1 Retailers Appreciation. Yunno what, come to think of it, I might've seen the Gold version then or my mind is playing tricks again.

Added on March 20, 2012, 3:14 pmBTW again - Where did you get 2 boxes of Jim Lee X-Men cards? Bought them online or you bought them when it 1st came out in 1992?

Added on March 20, 2012, 11:10 pmReceived Marvel Universe Series 2 hologram sets today. Will upload photos soon.

Alas... Not a big fan of the 'Live Action' cards/sets - but am gonna love the movie though. Always attracted to art 1st, story line 2nd. Good luck with the sets (if you r buying of course).

Me I'm trying to buy all the inserts which got me into non-sports cards in the 1st place. All the holo sets which I've purchased from ebay are safely situated in the card album. Just waiting for the final sets i.e. Marvel Universe Series 1 holos. Should be in anytime now.

Now looking for DC Universe holo sets & maybe Marvel Holoblast sets. Hmmmm......

Added on March 28, 2012, 11:28 pmAnyone here knows where can I get the UltraPro Single Card Sleeve? Do they come in packing of 50pcs or 100pcs & of course how much. biggrin.gif

Got them from Amazon.com ard Oct last year. I first bought these cards in 1992..tikam kaw kaw from Mind Shop Dsara Utama..back then no funds to buy whole box. Then sold off to fund other passion. Now the fever is back.

That X-men hologram was spotted at Mind Shop Dsara Utama and Subang Jaya outlets, always teasing me under the glass cabinet. Way out of my budget that time.

Hahaha... I fully understand the feeling cos most of us have "been there, felt that". Looking thru the window glass & hoping (& wishing) that those things are ours.

When I was younger (not to say that I'm old now), I used to think that I was born on the wrong side of the planet!! Why wasn't I born in the States where I can get anything to everything there. Heck, I even dreamt that I was there.

I'm also buying those sets which were mine & sold them to friends & collectors - Katy Perry's "The One That Got Away" song comes to mind biggrin.gif)

But those sets that were produced after our local Speciality Shops (Mind Shop, Comics Corner etc) stops bringing in Non-Sports Cards in late 90's (I think), I'm not familiar with sets. It just doesn't jog any memories.

Well anyway, Jim Lee's X-Men cards were THE BEST (If you like Jim Lee of course) sets ever. It really got me excited & like you & anyone else, we buy them in packets only cos we don't have the money to buy them in boxes. But it works cos I managed to get all the Special Inserts.

Man... how time flies <sigh>....

I started collecting comics ard the same time Jim Lee X-Men came to our market. Before that I did bought COMICS IMAGES Uncanny X-Men trading cards but they were more like reprints of Jim Lee artworks from the comics onto smaller trading cards. No special inserts but lucky ones get Jim Lee signature card.

Jim Lee X-Men from Impel was at RM 2.50 back then. When sold out, had to go DCM Enterprise to buy.

There are many marvel trading cards which Mind SHop and Comics Corner didnt brought in cuz that time they were focusing on game cards like MAGIC and basketball/ baseball/ US sports cards. Of course the fever subside. Then POKEMON, YUhiGo and all sorts of game cards.

But my love is still for comics trading cards. I remember Marvel Flair when it first came out. I think its RM 10 a pack which looks like a ciggarette box. Or was it Rm 20?

Yeah... Marvel Flair 1st released in 1994 followed by Marvel Flair 1995. It does look like a cigarette box with a detached cover. But I wasn't that interested in the set becos the colours are quite dull or maybe becos its the fact that it cost RM10 per pop. But the inserts are nice.

I bought quite a number of packets from the Comic Images X-Men which as you said "more like reprints of Jim Lee artworks from the comics onto smaller trading cards", with the hope of getting a Jim Lee Autograph card. I remembered somebody managed to one but it doesn't look that very appealing. But its JIM LEE AUTOGRAPH!!

I used to keep all the designs for many years until fungus started to grow on them that I threw them away. Your pics brings back alot of memories. I bought most trading cards from Final Frontier cuz they have more variety and slighty cheaper than Mind Shop.

Those days magazines like PREVIEWS, AdVANCE Comics, WIZARD or HERO Illustrated etc offers many nice freebies including awesome trading cards. I only have Magneto preview holo but couldnt get my copy of the venom holo. Art by Ron Lim. I think he drew X-Men 2099 comics as well.

Nice hauls to add to your collection. Hopefully one fine day we could meet up for yamcha and look at each of our card collection.

Yamcha? Sounds like an idea. Mayhaps we should. Then we can "show-off" our collections biggrin.gif . I mean, what's the point of having all these if we can't share amongst fellow collectors?

We need to expand the "fellowship". Try to lure out all Non-Sports Card Collectors & get together for Yamcha. I'm pretty sure there are still collectors whom are keeping their cards or rather collecting dust & would be glad to share their experience & their collections. And maybe we can start collecting again by ordering cards in cases or bulk & trade with each other. Its just a thought. Pretty sure its an uphill task.

Now my next target would be these sets.

01. 1996 Fleer Ultra X-Men Wolverine Holoflash 9-card set
02. 1994 Fleer Ultra X-Men Greatest Battles Limited Edition 6-card set

Awesome collection everyone. But I think there are no new collectors & what's left are all veteran collectors sharing their collections & stories that goes with each collection. Its a quiet thread indeed.
