I got one at RM15 but you won't be able to buy it.  laugh.gif

It's not that hard to find an iem which may well sound better than Piston2 if you look around for bargain. But for lazy people, probably Piston2 is as good as it gets for RM50 I suppose.
*
I'm surprised at how low quality you keep saying Piston 2 is.

I'm not an audiophile, just someone who listen to music at leisure. I have multiple sub RM100 iem and 2 RM199 sony iem with dynamic driver with heavier bass (quite good review) and 1 other balanced armature (the cheapest one with practically zero bass but very clear sound).

When I first used Piston 2 on my S4, I dislike it, it sounds hollow and music sort of crack. Then after adjusting thru S4 adapt sound to fine tune the IEM AND using it for at least 10-20 hours or so, it somehow turns out sounding better and better. Oh, it still could not beat those mid-high range IEM, its bass is not as good as my RM199 dynamic driver IEM, its sound is not as sharp as my ba unit but it has clearer sound than that dd iem and much better bass than that ba one, thus it turned out to be better balance than both my RM199 iems.

High volume seems to crack it a bit while both my IEM can withstand it without issue thus the Piston do have major weakness BUT at RM50, for me, it beats out all my sub or par RM100 IEM by far. So still wonder why you're complaining it like its worth only RM50 OR LESS. For me, it already worth RM100 but still not really on the range of RM200 ones tho, as mentioned above, its somehow balance up. Those mentioned better than RM300, really, don't know what RM300 IEM they use, fake ones?

Any coating on a screen will provide additional layer of protection vs scratches but in reality, not really any difference.

Xiaomi's reponse,

Tak tahu translate coz cannot fully read all words. Asked ppl to translate for me and I google translate some of them to make sense also.

The rough (not sure correct or not) bottom line is

CCTV China has conducted adhoc test on over 224 powerbanks in China, 9 failed battery weight impact test (whatever that is) with high risk of explosion upon short-circuit, 6 exploded, 20 units (not sure what is it), 17 units with overstated capacity. 53.1% of pb were not qualified.

In short, brands including Xiaomi 5200 mah pb has shown abt 50% to 75% of actual capacity. 10K pb not tested.

Answer by Xiaomi is after report is out, they contacted the testers.

Found out the tested Xiaomi battery was NOT procured from Xiaomi official channel. It was purchased in the market. Testers only tested adhoc pb purchased from market and is not responsible to authenticate whether its a fake or not.

Xiaomi also clarify the listed capacity on their pb is the rated capacities, not the actual output capacity and these are according to the standard regulation. Xiaomi stressed and believed CCTV pb tests are the results of copycat products.

10K pb not in the report list. Bukan not tested.

Plus, the Xiaomi Powerbank that was tested by CCTV wasn't purchased through the official Xiaomi channels. So the tested ones could be fake product.
*
If they don't list in report, it make sense it is not tested....same thing lar..

If you puncture Li-Ion batteries they can explode or at least start burning, so the casing should be strong so that can't happen. I'm fairly confident the Xiaomi casing is more than strong enough. biggrin.gif Might want to buy a casing for the PB though... not to protect the PB but to protect other things in the bag. laugh.gif Worried it will scratch up everything.
*
Oh yeah, it will scratch up all right. PB metal casing seems extremely susceptible to scratches. Gotten those silicon cases. Since the PB is mostly cool when charging and discharging, not really too concern if the silicon cases trap heat instead of disperse heat like the metal casing.

Putting silicon on MEANS its soft, also help against scratching other devices....but then again, which nincampoop go put hard metal case together with lenses... whistling.gif

It has more bass, not much better bass. In fact, it has too much, 50% of the time. Drown everything else out, unless you mod it. The clarity also improved with the mod.

I dont want to end up repeating the same thing over and over again. Fanboys are the most annoying bunch. For RM50, its definitely not over paying, like I mentioned earlier, but this is definitely not in the same league if you can spent 3-4 times the money. Its not the price. I wont even buy for RM20 if I had the chance to listen to it. To me, its not the price, but the sound. I dont pay a lot for most of my stuffs that I bought at bargain price from warehouse sales or online sales. If you are comparing to the overpriced branded junk that you bought at full retail price, then the Piston2 is like an angel falling from sky.

On top of that, I dont like EQ at all. It may not sound natural out of box, I accept it as it is instead of tweaking the EQ to play the sound that you want to hear.

I like my cheapo RM15 BA the best. I think BA really excel at vocals, clarity without all those annoying fake bass. I think Piston2 is trying to create a listening environment, much like when using LME49720 opamp. It gets a wide soundstage, with good instrument separation which offers a live-like experience, but if you are aiming for just enjoying pure music, then it really lacks the refinement.

I dont mind paying 3-4 times the price of Piston2 for that. Piston2 didnt deliver my expectation.
*
Mm...Before I use the inbuilt adapt sound in S4 that automatically fine tune the iem, Piston does not sound very good on S4. However after that, its superb like what I've mentioned. Not the best with its weakness but very good for its price and all around performance.

Bass is not too strong nor weak (tho my sony IEM is much stronger and cleaner), its just right for average leisure listening that I'm currently using it for my mobile usage (taking it everywhere in my bag). I personally like it quite a bit tho its not as good as the other 2 more expensive IEM in their respective strength.

Maybe you just got different expectation and taste in the audio quality that this IEM is just not suited to your ears. As for refinement, ya, actually my 2 other IEM is better in their respective listening pleasure, ie the bassy one for more rock like music and the BA IEM for instrumental and those music that don't have need bass to begin with.

I think it sounded much better on my Note2 and Nexus10 than it does with Mi3, which adds to the disappointment perhaps. Im using the phone with the worse headphone out.
*
Maybe it all comes down to codes, imbuilt software, codex and hardware that is why Xiaomi can go very affordable. They might have skimp out somewhere and this might be it.

Actually if you really like Samsung S-function, then I guess you get S4.

Mi3 is rather plain, boring looking Android that designed to be minimal but perform like a beast.

Other things you probably misses are custom rom, better audio quality, amoled screen, sd card slot, exchanging battery, and some other things that I may well missed out.
*
It is these so-called small things that are not really listed as specification that makes me wanted to stay with Samsung S range for my personal usage since I used the phone extensively as my pda and note taking. Thus stability and familiarity takes precedence. Guess I will stick to future Samsung S range or Notes for now. The audio quality really trumped MI3 after using IEM and others.

Amoled screen DO save lots of screen batt especially when we used dark based background since black pixel does not use power.

Most of the S-function are next to useless for me tho, a gimmick I barely use.

QUOTE(fantagero @ Aug 26 2014, 11:16 PM)
hello guys..
just broke my s2 so i need new phone.

a few question please.
-what will i miss from samsung if i buy this phone? from samsung s2 to mi3

planning to get used s4, some of s4 features, air gesture, the waving etc looks cool
but someone pointed mi3 to me in the recommendation thread.

-does mi3 availability like mainstream brand?
i need it by this week if possible.

use mainly, instagram, whatsapp, 9gag, and navigation.

thank you very much
*
Forget abt those S4 features like air gesture, etc, its really gimmicky, not useful, battery draining features. Sticks with the basic.

MI3 is really faster than S4 and the themes variety is trumped the now boring S4 looks. However for stability wise, I still prefer S4. Upgrading from S2 to MI3 (just like my wife), you won't missed much from S2 (its pretty outdated, small screen and extremely slow when compared to S4/MI3 range. Its all good. I noted tho that apps has less issues with high end Samsung phones (coz most android apps used that and other popular android high end phones as reference) than with MI3, ie notification, etc. However so far my wife has no issue with them.

Do note MI3 does not have LTE if you have access to LTE data connection. My wife does not use data line does it does not matter to her. If the S4 you're considering is the LTE edition and you really want high speed data connection (and its accessible to you), then LTE is the deal breaker for MI3.

Mi3 off & on come with some hiccup here & there, require quite some patient & need to work around for solution.. if you looking for problem free phone then this is not your choice, add note : if you like taking photo then stay with Samsung, Mi3 is weak in this department.
*
That's what I meant by stability...

I agree camera quality is a not that nice when compared with current and previous S series.

S3 screen quality looks subpar vs S4 and MI3. Dislike it. So its a very GOOD upgrade on the screen department.

QUOTE(kadajawi @ Aug 27 2014, 01:06 PM)
My AMOLED powered Galaxy Nexus had awful battery life as soon as the display was on. And usually, despite low brightness settings, something like 40-50% of the battery consumption came from the screen. I do miss that screen though, the black levels are just wow. The Galaxy Nexus screen displaying black is blacker than the Mi3 screen... when turned off. laugh.gif When on it's grey.

I personally really don't like the Samsung customizations. Big fan of stock Android, though MIUI is really good. My favorite Android after stock. I also think Samsung has no taste... their UI is ugly. The fonts they offer are not nice. etc.

The Mi3 audio output is... shall we say less than stellar. Apart from that though I love the phone. biggrin.gif

One thing I noticed with the Mi3 though is font sizes. I have set it to small, but sometimes huge lettering appears, like when it lets me pick between mobile phone calls and internet phone calls (VoIP). Have they forgotten to change that setting...? It lacks a bit in consistency...

@jolokia: Why would you say the Mi3 is weak in the photo taking department? The camera is fine, it's used in many high end phones from last year. The UI is a bit simplistic, but there are other apps to fix that, and apart from the Mi2 and LG G2 it's the only phone I'm aware off that takes raw photos. Being able to circumvent less than stellar and way too aggressive noise reduction algorithms and too aggressive JPEG compression is great, also being able to adjust the white balance etc. afterwards and to recover highlights and shadows that would usually be lost. It's great.
*
All displays sucked battery power, its normally 50% of my power consumption. Its a given thing.

Although the theme of S4 is boring, I'm ok with the font. Been using choco cooky font since S2, love it somehow.

My S4 used a stable 460mah throughout when using screen while MI3 fluctuated between 530~600++ mah based on gsam battery app reading. Not sure about the accuracy.

For me, I don't adjust or play with photo adjustment, just click and shoot. For that, Samsung produced a better and clearer images than MI3. Tried that with both MI3 and S4. Note that I did not really play around the setting, just capture an image of same thing. That's for normal layman who just take pictures without thinking.
