I am not an expert for this kind of stuff. But if it's Mi3's fault, then it should have been blown up as well along with the charger and extension.

Now the situation is HTC charger is blown up, extension is kaput, Mi3 is fine, your computer is fine.

Something happened between the extension and the HTC charger. Hard to say what was the exact cause. And when they blown up, Mi3 somehow managed to survive from the accident (due to its protection system I guess?). PC also survived because it was not caused by the PC itself. So it was shut down since the electic current was cut.

From this case, may be we should say that MI3 was designed very well on its protection when it comes to charging.

Err...no lar...

I think the fuse in the charger would likely cut off the power to the phone when it was overloaded, possibly due to aging or power surge. Sometimes the devices got shortcircuit as well if the surge is too strong or fast. The fuse minimize that from happening but its not a 100% thing. You got lucky.

i prefer not to have any phone or power bank , or gadget charging during night sleeping time for safety purpose.

If you have Xiaomi PB, you will notice that when it charge a phone to full status, it will STOP charging even if you leave it connected to powerbank the whole night. Your phone will start draining its own battery instead. This is a very good safety feature.

If you charge via normal charger, it will change to trickle charge that supply minimal amp to keep your phone at 100% till morning. At trickle charge, both phones and charger are cool too touch coz only minimal current goes thru.

I have been monitoring the charging amp for the powerbank via Samsung Note 2 2amp charger.

It seems although the pb can receive 2amp input, my chargers only goes on average 5.0x voltage with 0.66~0.69 amp instead.

The PB is cold throughout and it took almost 8.5 hours to full charge a 10.4k pb (manual listed 5.5 hours for 2amp, 10 hours for 1amp).

I'm trying to ramp up the charging amp....then one of my charger did ramp up over 0.7 to 0.8 amp. Charging is noticeable faster (2 pb charge at same time) but the battery is also warmer while the other 0.6++ amp charging battery is cold. So I guess in order to preserve battery life, I can live with lower amp charge.

Still wondering why both my Note 2 2amp charger cannot reach even 1 amp here (S4 and MI3 can reach over 1amp from the same charger).

Download the Mikey Chinese version

http://app.mi.com/detail/59090

More stable than the English ones, ie...no delay vs English delay when activating mikey, etc.

Its because the charger is stupid.

There's a fix for stupid charger.

Get a cable that D+ and D- is shorted.
*
You know where to get one that is D+ D- shorted?

They called it DUMB charger cable using DUMB USB Spec.

You can try your nearest Low Yat Plaza.

Or you just modify yourself. Remove the D+/D- and short it using resistor.

Thanks for the link.

Not familiar with electrical components and for charging thingy, if not done correctly, nanti explode when charging or damage the phone, etc.

Prefer professionally done good quality cable.

Anyway, when charging above certain amp, the powerbank heats up noticeably while my current existing "slow charging" means battery is still cool. Li-ion battery is very susceptible to heat that will shorten its life, so I guess its a give and take thing.

I updated to V22 today then to V23. So far no issue with dropped calls. I am using Maxis.

Also when incoming call, it does not stop the 3G service.

So far everything looks pretty good except for below:

1. Backup App missing.
2. Mi Key normally during bootup will let me choose the device but after update to V23, no option and have to run the Mi Key app.

I did OTA without doing any reset from V14.
*
That's good. Still wondering should I update from V14 to V22 and onwards V23 thru OTA without factory reset.

Now got no problem with V14...

Why not just update straight to the v23? The full rom of V23 is available now in miui forum.
*
My wife's phone. Need a stable rom for fire and forget installation. OTA no need headache.

Also, what is the point of screen protectors? Glass or not? Cause shouldn't it be gorilla glass, so it shouldn't get scratches? I'm just worried about breaking the screen...
*
Gorilla glass is scratch resistant, not scratch proof. The bane of all glasses, sand, still can easily scratch it. Scratches on SP can be remove easily by changing SP at low cost, a small fraction of the cost of changing gorilla glass of a phone. If you don't mind possible scratches on your glass, then don't bother with SP.

Never like SP because of the feel but sometimes I was forced to use it when it involved a stylus like Note2.

The only advantage of SP is that when gaming, it was really easy to slide your thumb around compared to SP-less.
*
That is WHERE the GLASS SP comes in. A good glass SP has the same feel as gorilla glass....and changeable upon damage at a fraction of the phone glass below it.

Now ALL my phones are using glass SP. Just could not goes back to plastic SP once you get used to the smooth glass gliding touch.

Yup. Glass SP is the way to go. But the oleophobic coating (anti-finger thing) is worn off after some usage, even those super expensive one. I googled a bit and found a 'solution'. I will try it this weekend with my car wax smile.gif

Oleophobic coating DIY
*
Ya, even my S4 Rm120 Spigen glass wore of its oleo within 2-3 months. So oleo thingy is usually just a marketing gimmick as it won't last.

You sure u want to use car wax kah !!! Wax usually will also wear off and it might even leave some "print" behind (its a wax lar....still a wax).

After further reading, I should be able to use my non-abrasive car wax. Just remember don't use car polish as it has abrasive action. I will apply several coating and see how long it will last. Car wax is made to withstand hash environment such as high temp, sunshine, rain, etc.

RainX.... i feel like RainX is not smooth to touch after I apply to the windshield.
*
You really consider Rainx kah.....I just joking only...

Car wax will still wash of after several car wash actually. Its those sealent thingy that can withstand long term but I don't think you should use it on your glass.....unless you thinking its abt time to change to MI4...

It depends on all those 3 factors:

Which phone you bought?
How many accessories you bought?
You must have been registered to Xiaomi malaysia site for at least 80 days

Once you fulfilled all those 3 criterias, then you are eligible to maximum 25 ringgit (I guess) coupon and you have a chance to win a Mi4. Also, you will get a title. Mine one is Mi Star. rclxms.gif
*
Mine 3 phones, 15 accs and 56 days only. Also get Rm25 liao.

My alternate, I think only 2 or 4 accs, can get RM10 liao.

Anyway if only buy 2 10.4k pb for RM10 discount, then got charge RM15 coz falls below RM72, totally not worth it. May as well don't use voucher.

Does anyone know how xiaomi pb bypass charging works?

When charging the phone while charging pb, does the phone takes the power from the battery or directly from the plugs itself?

Bypass charging = Source charge PB, PB charge Phone, if Source direct charge phone then what for go thru PB ??

*
Ok. Tot since the word BYPASS is there, that means source will bypass PB battery to charge phone AND at the same time charge battery. This is needed when we have only 1 charger source and need to charge both PB and phone at same time.

Checking on this passthru thing coz if power comes from battery and source charging the battery at same time, in long run won't it shorten the life of the battery?

If source charge both the battery and phone directly, the battery charge up a bit slower coz need to share power source but battery no effect of shorten life (if its true).

I already got Piston 2.1. Found it VERY GOOD when used with MI3 with its customized Piston audio setting.

However when used in S4, its sounds hollow although both the bass and clarity is quite balanced. My 2 sony iem that cost RM199 still sounds better at other phones other than MI3.

So IMO, don't expect Piston 2 to perform miracle. It is no better than mid end IEM but becoz of its price with its "good" audio, its being hailed as excellent iem (more like value for money).

Then you should customize your setting in S4.

But the thing is both my Sony sounds good/ok in all phones with "special" customization.
