Most light, slim and fast notebooks nowadays do not come with an optical drive.. this is because most people don't use them anymore, and having one actually compromises on weight, size and even sturdiness of the notebook nod.gif
If you really need to use one, get an external one, they are quite cheap, and small as well nod.gif

If omitting optical drive:

I recalled seeing he is clearing out remaining stocks for XPS15 and Precision M3800 (both FHD and QHD variants), so the price will probably be better icon_rolleyes.gif

1. Preferred Brand - Not limiting this
2. Budget - Below 3k
3. Usage - Note taking/ microsoft office (portability is the priority)
4. Preferred laptop/screen size - Nil

I am trying to look for an alternative to Macbook Air, emphasizing on portability and durability of battery. Most ultrabook out there are too expensive and doesn't really impress in term of battery usage. Please gimme some good suggestion smile.gif

Problem is that I dont really enjoy the Mac Os interface, has always been too geeky for Mac/Ios.

Dell XPS13 is the top competitor for MBA13. However, the newer generation XPS13 are more expensive. Still, no harm trying your luck, sometimes you do get very awesome discounts for one.
The XPS13 is one of my favourite ultrabooks and definitely the one I'm going to get as an alternative to MBA13.

As for <RM3k,
13"
Lenovo Yoga 2-13, i5-4200U + Intel HD4400 + (1920x1080 IPS; touch) + 16GB SSHD + 500GB HDD@RM2999, 8GB, 2 years; colors: grey/orange

HP Split 13-m111TU x2, i5-4200Y + Intel HD4200 + 64GB mSATA SSD + 500GB (5400 rpm) + (1366x768, anti-glare, touch)@RM3099[1.07+1.15kg], 4GB, W8.1, 33+32 WHr (there are 2 batteries, 1 in tablet, 1 in keyboard base)

*Prices in RRP
Of course, don't expect these to be equivalent, let alone better than the MBA13/XPS13 in both performance and build icon_rolleyes.gif
