1. Preferred Brand- asus or lenovo (as long as its durable)
2. Budget- below RM3000
3. Usage- presentation, multitask, movies, some photoshop, preferably good batt life too
4. Preferred laptop/screen size- 15 inches

Please recommend! will be bringing this laptop overseas for 3 years. If it comes with international warranty even better!
*
If you're going oversea, why not buy it on there ?? Cause normally laptop comes w/o international warranty, or 1 year international warranty.. if you want to change, it will cost a lot..
But if you're into it, Dell maybe a good choice, XPS or Inspiron.. Asus also a good choice as Asus service at oversea is good.. but in Msia then a big NO..

QUOTE(GKilla @ Jan 19 2015, 10:40 PM)

Thanks.

bro. i've been looking around for that z5 as per suggestions. got something in mind too. that z5 tag is 3799. with 3799, are there any other which can compete with that price?
*
If 3.8k is too much for you, then best bang of buck is Acer V Nitro currently.. the spec is almost the same as Z5 but the cooling is slightly worse than Z5.. and without sub-woofer..
But Acer V Nitro comes with LG-IPS screen which is better than Z5 normal screen..
Acer V Nitro cost RM3,399..

checked just now still prefer illegear as aftershock still expensive compare to illegear
*
ILLEGEAR Z5 spec for me is reasonable, as they got a comparable good after sales service..
The cooling is top notch, and build quality is good..
If you want cheap and almost same spec laptop, go for Acer V Nitro.. it's the best bang of buck..
But both laptop also using 860m card.. which for you may feel a bit out dated..
So if you can wait a bit longer then wait lo.. see how ILLEGEAR come out with 960m or similar gc laptop model..

For me it's worth it for Z5.. But currently I'm not sure as there's new card coming out.. wait for ILLEGEAR new model then biggrin.gif
PM Prince J to know more about their product.. they will give you a lot helpful information rclxms.gif

dont forget VN7 has smaller battery. Think new VN7 stock with the Intel card puts it on par with Z5 in that scenario.
*
What you mean ? VN7 still don't have sub-woofer right ?
As far as I know the cooling is the same as VN5.. so Z5 is still top notch in cooling.. And I think Z5 battery life is better than Acer V Nitro model.. it can last me 3-5 hours when normal surfing..

i am adding to the further cons on VN7 not Z5. VN7 3 cell Z5 iirc is 6-cell
yes VN7 got no subwoofer - your post already mentioned that.

The other statement is on the wifi card. VN7 had a lousier one, but new Jan stock seems to be coming Intel 7265NGW so should be considered on par with Z5 now
*
Oic.. sorry lar i didn't get you sweat.gif
Well VN7 do come with a good IPS Screen.. no doubt about that.. haha
And it comes with an optical drive.. very less laptop which is so thin comes with optical drive.. so it's a plus for me thumbup.gif
My Z5 is using 7260 AC though...

can the z5 run the dedicated GC on battery? 8 cell very powerful de
*
Can.. But mostly the nvidia driver will limit the performance when you're using battery.. So need to switch it off manually..

Hi guys,

Was planning to get a laptop for my friend, and am looking for recommendations.

Budget: 8k
Usage: Designing

Was hoping to get a laptop that's worth it and that lasts long biggrin.gif

Thanks
*
Designing as in ?? PS ? Video rendering ? or ???
I assume your friend is looking for a working laptop or business grade laptop.. Go for Latitude or Precision..
These 2 is among the best business grade laptop.. with good support..
Or you can consider Lenovo Thinkpad also..

MSI GE62

Nvidia GTX 965M- 2 GB ddr 5 gpu

or

Illegear Z5

Graphics Card: Nvidia GeForce GTX 860M 4GB GDDR5

Looking at these two, which one is worth it?

Seems to me too like Z5 is a better option. i'm just a bit worried that z5 will obsolete faster than GE62. haih pening pening. 4k is not something for people like us to just dump anywhere without getting consideration and suggestions from others.  rclxub.gif  rclxub.gif
*
For me.. 860m is no longer worth it.. if the price of 965m is almost the same (within RM100) if 860m is RM1k then 965m is 1.1k.. it's better go for 965m.. if more than that then I will stick to 860m.. since performance not much different.. just slight better only.. I rather go for 970m which provides better performance.
But you need to take consideration into the machine also.. If you wanna get MSI GE62, wait longer for review.. cause even the spec can lie.. later got heat issue or some other issue leh..

And if you're going for ILLEGEAR, ALWAYS ask for a quotation from Prince J.. he won't disappoint you biggrin.gif
You can also ask them whether they're coming out Z5 with 960m or 965m or not.. if they're coming out with it, wait for it..

I'm a Z5 user.. been using it for about 1.5 months. So far I'm satisfied.. how good it is I think no need I say liao lo.. can see from other post and thread brows.gif
Just that the 860m card a bit "old" lar.. but I mostly play Online Game and seldom high demanding game.. so should be okay for me.. the only high demanding game I tried is BF4, COD AW and Watch Dogs.
BF4 and COD AW can run fine.. both in 1080p.. Watch Dogs is a very sad case.. no high and 1080p.. lol.. The game is not so well optimized.. COD AW is a very well optimized game.. I got better fps than BF4 in higher settings..

I would instead recommend ILLEGEAR RX-17 EVO. More up to date components (the graphic ard above already 2 gen old). To save can even drop down to single (non-SLI) if your friend do not game much.
*
I think his friend is a girl, and prefer light weight.. RX-17 too bulky for a girl lar.. And depend on the design she's doing.. AutoCad those software rely more on GTX or Quadro ar ?? I not sure.. lol
If is Quadro better get precision series.. Cause it's more durable and not so "fancy" looking XD

finally got the chance to talk to Z5 owner. kihkihkihkikhih. so how? would you recommend me this z5? i ask prince j he told me 970m cannot be under 5k.  cry.gif  cry.gif  cry.gif

i try cod aw with gt525m can't even run first mission...  sweat.gif
*
970m is currently the 2nd end game card leh.. if below 5k sure rugi 1.. If I remember correctly Aftershock got 1 model which sell 970m at 4.7k.. but other component is not good.. after you add up also the same.. you can have a look on it..
I will definitely recommend you to get Z5 or S5 if your budget allow.. or RK series.. those are the high end laptop from ILLEGEAR.. you won't go wrong with those..
But it's all subject to how you want your laptop to last.. 860m can last you at least a year.. but obviously the currently coming new game in this year, you can't play it on High 1080p mostly.. low or mid setting should be fine..
I'm not a hardcore gamer, just a medium gamer.. so any new game which can let me play on constant 60fps is okay for me.. as long as the settings is good enough for me to play.. Previous year game is working fine with 860m, except Watch Dogs, Crysis 3 and some other.. 860m not good in Open World game..

So it all depend on you.. if you're okay with 860m, Z5 definitely biggrin.gif

Food for thought... MSI so fast come out wif latest spec but their company sales still behind acer, dun talk bout dell la... hehe...
*
Aiya.. MSI aim for luxury road ma.. see their GE60 same spec with Acer V Nitro.. RM4k.. Acer go for budget road ma.. so sure gain more sales lo..
Dell sales not good meh ? I just know AW market not good liao.. too much budget gaming laptop to compete jor.. but still their service masih top icon_idea.gif
If their service become bad, then I think AW will gg ad.. lol

Dun make we get Ki siao... alot PPL can get very angry...

Or some legend m17 wif gtx 680m? Hehe... after remove battery tat 1 around 3kg
*
Wait.. 860m more exp than 780m ? you got write wrongly ma ??
Now seldom ppl want 680m liao lar.. MXM also no use.. seldom ppl got sell MXM gc ad.. very exp also if got..
For me 3kg too heavy.. My whole body weight baru 45KG.. sleep.gif''
I'm too tiny for it.. haha

QUOTE(buttwait @ Jan 21 2015, 05:09 PM)
For me 860M does very well in my games. I don't need to play highend games ultra with extra bling bling eye candy.

860M is Maxwell type, it uses same architecture 960M. Why wait 960M when you can have Maxwell 860M?
*
Some prefer more performance.. your question is like 980m also using Maxwell type.. then why go 980m and not 860m ? Even it's using same architecture, the performance can vary. So it's up to the buyer to decide the performance increase is worth it or not.

QUOTE(retsmot @ Jan 21 2015, 05:11 PM)
those light games i meant are like flash games on facebook, or browser games. stuff u 'play' when your boss aren't looking or when u have free time to kill at work.  brows.gif

will look into the hd5500... tho isn't having a dedicated vga card better? my current dell vostro(since 2008) is dying, even as i type this... the monitor needs to be at an angle only will have display, and its getting worse to find that 'angle'...
*
Then having a good graphic card is not necessary. For what I know, those browser game utilize CPU more than GPU.. so just get a normal or decent GPU is enough.. So your $ can pour into CPU which in term can last you longer.. get an i7.. at least M series if possible

QUOTE(buttwait @ Jan 21 2015, 05:12 PM)
Luxury path with poor service (1 year hardware and service, 2nd year service only???) doesn't sound right to consumers like me.
*
I got no idea MSI warranty is so bad.. cause my boss MSI still okay.. no need for warranty so far.. lol

For me, yes. 4k budget, Z5 is the best bang of buck.. if go beyond it, get other model like ILLEGEAR S5..

sorry to ask again,

if after sales service is not an issue, (lets hope the laptop can last 2 years without any problem), which other models will you suggest?

before this i did survey about lenovo y50-70 and asus g751...
*
Those model you looked into is not worth the price. IMHO. Those are more on gaming laptop.
If you're going for gaming laptop, you can as well go for ILLEGEAR / AFTERSHOCK. Those give better price and spec ratio.
Or you want normal budget gaming laptop go for Acer V Nitro.
Since you're doing a lot of editing work, and you're willing to spend so much on the laptop, better you get a good laptop with good after sales service.
You can't be sure your laptop can last 2 years without any problem.
