icon_question.gif
1. Preferred Brand: Any brand
2. Budget: RM 2800-3500 (maybe can stretch upto 4k if really really needed)
3. Usage: mainly for Gaming (Dota 2), and other multitasking use (Surfing, FB, Skype, YouTube, Movies)
4. Preferred laptop/screen size: 15" up

Ive been thinking about Lenovo Y510.

All suggestions are welcome!

Welcome man icon_rolleyes.gif
You don't really need a very powerful GPU for Dota 2 laugh.gif

Still, can consider these:
15.6"
MSI
GP60-2PE-026MY, i7-4700HQ + Nvidia GT840M + (1920x1080; anti-glare) @RM3299[Dynaudio], 4GB, 1TB HDD, W8.1
GP60-2PEY, i5-4200H + Nvidia GT840M + (1920x1080; anti-glare) @RM2899[Dynaudio], 4GB, 750GB HDD, W8.1

*upgrade to at least 8GB RAM icon_rolleyes.gif

How about these?
14"
Dell
Inspiron 14 3000, i3-4005U + Intel HD4400@RM1349[2.2kg], 4GB, 500GB, Linux, 4-cell, spill-resistant KB, 2 years Pro support; W8.1SL@RM1499
Inspiron 14 3000, i3-4030U + Nvidia 820M@RM1549[2.2kg], 4GB, 500GB, Linux, 4-cell, spill-resistant KB, 2 years Pro support; W8.1SL@RM1699

*extend warranty to 3 years with remaining budget

For notebooks around this price range, you can either choose in between portability or good built... those with both are more expensive nod.gif
*
How about Lenovo G40-70 (Intel i5 4200U) and HP Pavilion 15-N227TX, i5-4200U + Nvidia 840M@RM1849[2.33kg], 4GB, 500GB, Ubuntu because I prefer intel i5 than intel i3 and good built?

Do you think what is the best choice?

Thank you thumbup.gif thumbup.gif

Not many 14" notebooks with quad-core i7 processors left nowadays huhu...
So it all boils down to these:
14"
Lenovo
Y410p, i7-4700MQ + Nvidia GT755M(GDDR5)@RM2899, 4GB, 1TB, DOS, red backlit, 120w psu, swappable ODD, 2 years warranty
Y410p, i7-4700MQ + Nvidia GT755M(GDDR5)@RM3199, 8GB, 1TB, W8.1, red backlit, 120w psu, swappable ODD, 2 years warranty

* extend warranty to 3 years; or opt for an SSD with remaining budget icon_rolleyes.gif

This one, how's the screen quality like? Viewing angle/resolution etc. I'm not happy with their Y40 and Y50 pricing.

Don't every buy DELL laptops!

I have been using DELL computers and laptops for more than 10 years, I know what I am talking about.

DELL laptops will conk out just after the warranty period. If you still insist on buying DELL desktops or laptops, pay more for longer warranty period and pray for the best.

Thanks for the recommendation. rclxms.gif

Seems that quad-core processor is a must and the ULV processor is not able to handle the thing... If go for 15.6' screen, any recommendation? hmm.gif

Hello experts!

I need a recommendation of a laptop.

What I'm currently using: a 3 year old ASUS N55SF (The GPU fail on me now)

Preferred brand: Any

Budget: Maybe not more than RM2,500 but don't strictly stick to it because I'm not aware of my needs vs price.

Features: Lightweight, good battery life, I work mobile (home+office)
Usage: MS Office, Adobe AI+PS, Video streaming/recording capable, light gaming (Anything that is equivalent and enough to run Dota2 with good FPS is fine), general multimedia use (movie playback/music/surfing/torrent)

Preferred screen size: 14" maybe? Currently using 15.6" (and it's heavy)

What I don't really care about: Sound quality.

Hope to hear from yall soon.

Thank you!

Thanks for the encouragements man  notworthy.gif
The sifus and I appreciate it!

Anyway, for photo editing, getting a MacBook Air or MacBook Pro RD (cheapest at RM4.1k wo) is a better pick since the screens are better and more accurate bro icon_rolleyes.gif

There are complains about yellowish tints of the IPS Screen of the Flex-2 (probably due to relatively cheaper IPS screen to keep prices down)
I think only the MBA13 (and MBA11 if you are considering) is within your budget unfortunately:
13"
Apple
MacBookAir 13", i5-4260U + Intel HD5000 + 128GB SSD + (1440x900)@RM3199[1.35kg], 4GB, backlit keyboard, Mac OSX

*upgrade RAM when you have the budget, it will help with Photoshop rendering and multitasking icon_rolleyes.gif

As for Office, take note that you will experience incompatibilities when switching from APple to Windows platforms ya  icon_rolleyes.gif

Thank you so much bro for your recommendations... notworthy.gif notworthy.gif

For the updates, I already bought Macbook Pro Retina Display on 31st July.. To be honest, I'm quite scared first to use Mac since I never use a Mac before.. sweat.gif I've been loyal Windows user for 20 years.. But this year, my works need to do lots of photography editing, so I followed your advice and get a Macbook.. It is so good in doing photography editing, the color reproductions also is very good and the OS is very snappy compared to Windows (not trying to be a fanboys).. I love its trackpad and keyboard so much.. No wonder Macbook's price is higher than some Windows laptop because of quality.. You got for what you pay for.. laugh.gif

Anyway, thank you so much.. Keep the hardwork in this recommendations thread.. icon_rolleyes.gif

Grats on your purchase man! notworthy.gif
Good to know that you are familiarizing with Mac OSX rclxms.gif
I had a hard time learning how to use it haha, especially the stupid one-button magic mouse (old iMac) haha~

Actually MacBooks are becoming very good... in some cases even cheaper than Windows counterparts already (e.g. MBA 13 vs XPS 13) thumbup.gif
As for built, can't really say that la haha, the XPS11,12,13 and 15 are better built (full/partial carbon fibre) than the MBA or MBP haha laugh.gif

All the best man, glad you are happy with your notebook, may you produce awesome photographs with it! thumbup.gif
