MRCB, George Kent picked to be PDP for RM9b LRT3QUOTE Prasarana Malaysia said on Friday the new LRT 3 line will link Bandar Utama to Shah Alam and Klang and it is expected to be completed by Aug 31, 2020.
Funds for the project would be financed via the issuance of Sukuk, of which the coupon rate will be decided later. Local institutions have shown interest on the financing for the project through its sukuk issuance.

It is understood that MRCB and George Kent’s closest contender for the PDP award was Sunway Bhd.
“MRCB and George Kent were neck to neck with Sunway. The other contenders were nowhere close. MRCB could differentiate from Sunway as a transit-oriented developer (TOD), which will benefit Prasarana as it looks to diversify its earnings base.
“Another winning point was the set up of George Kent, which is the only local systems provider in Malaysia. The marriage of MRCB and George Kent, which are involved in the ongoing LRT extension and MRT projects, will ensure a lot of local involvement in the project,” said the source.

The Malaysian Insider previously reported a source as saying that the appointment of MRCB-George Kent as PDP for LRT 3 project had shocked the industry as George Kent was known to have problems in the construction of the Ampang Line LRT extension, which was completed a year later than scheduled.
According to the source, many analysts thought UEM was better equipped and experienced to build the LRT3 as it had previously been involved in such projects.
According to documents sighted by The Malaysian Insider, George Kent's tender had offered the price of RM11.5 billion, the third lowest of six tenders submitted, for the project.
The UEM consortium, meanwhile, had submitted a tender for RM9.88 billion while the lowest bid was for RM9.5 billion.

Prasarana agrees to change LRT3 route. The LRT3 will no longer run through Taman Muhibah, Klang, it says. Under the new proposal, the Jalan Meru station which was originally positioned near Klang High School will be located closer to Klang Parade shopping mall.
The extension will cost Prasarana an additional Rm350mil. “A parking facility to accommodate 500 cars will also be available at this station,”.
