I have rented many cars in Japan. Both Nissan and Toyota rentacars are fine, with Toyota being a bit cheaper. Book via Tocoo for a nice discount.

i booked via tocoo oso... and the other one is ots

remember most of the online car rental is available in japanese only
the most preferably way to book is via email... and telephone call to confirm
ohh warning they have limited english capability, especially speaking

i done mostly via phone, coz i can call to 10 countrys for free brows.gif

Guys, and Sifus.. I want to ask. Is it necessary to book a rental car from an international rental car company such as EuropCar or ToCoo?

I mean, the rental car shops in Japan, do they usually have cars available, that I can just go on the spot and get one?

Because this ToCoo and EuropCar are very expensive compared to the rental car shop in Japan.
*
I used Toyota Rental is Hokkaido
I made the reservation by walking into their office near my hotel in Kyoto
The staff helped me call the reservation line
I check tocoo and got quoted around 25-26k for 3 days for a k-car
Toyota charged me about 28.5k for a ractis/spade/sienta category and with 4wd (though that's not really useful) because i get discount with a Hertz card

Nop...Toyama City still got alot of train Line. Within City got Tram. It got Toyama Private Line to Whole Toyama region including Tateyama Alphine Station.

It got JRLine to Kanazawa and Niigata. Toyama was like a T Juntion. West going Kanazawa. East going Niigata. South going Takayama + Nagoya

Hi guys, i need some advice on my itinerary, plan on taking my mom and 2 of her friends.
Estimate dates would be around 2nd/3rd week of April. (Hoping to avoid their major holidays but still able to see sakura)
The plan is to do sightseeing more than shopping.
Question :
1) would the plan be too rush?
2) would it be better if i add 1 more day each to kyoto and/or tokyo?
3) would the JR pass be sufficient?
Any recommendation are welcome too! Thanks! notworthy.gif

It definately too rush, i dun thing u can do it comfortably, travel with older and friend need to be slow, especially yr aim is to catch the sakura.

Try to cover Osaka and Kyoto only will be better idea, forget about Nagoya and Tokyo. U have miss out the Arashiyama in Kyoto, it can take at least haft day tour they.

Dun try to cover all those area and squeeze like running walkaton, i dare to say you not able to enjoy it.and yrs mom and uncle will complaint like hell. Do u see people come to enjoy the sakura by walk in walk out with pact schedule? Your plan look like" riding horse to see sakura".

Please bear in mind that sightseeing and shopping in Japan need alot of walking and stamina. You need to understand that bring the older for tour is to enjoy and relax, slowly to appreciate their culture, the sakura season, their temple. If you plan like that, with pact schedule like working in big city, it would be better stay home and working everyday.

please do some homework by study the geografic of each city, transport system. The way you plan will waste u alot money yet unable to enjoy the trip. Please read the travel japan guide also, alot of traveller have raise out this same plan/question over the year, and answer can be found they easily.

Guys, is there any difference in access if I land in Narita instead of Haneda? This is due to the difference in flight departure and arrival time.

Narita is further away from Tokyo, while Haneda is still within the Greater Metropolitan Area of Tokyo.

Narita technically is the main international airport serving Kanto area (specifically Tokyo and its surroundings).

Haneda got upgraded over years and therefore now also serving some numbers of international flights.

Think of something like Haneda = Our old Subang Airport, Narita = KLIA.

Transportation to city area therefore will have different choices too. Haneda generally you do can get clearance in less time.

P/S: Haneda just got awarded 5 star airport last month.

Thanks, so I just checked that it usually takes 1.5 hours to reach central Tokyo from Narita, not bad actually.

I'm trying to detail out every single thing as I'll be going there without tour guide and by myself, for the first time laugh.gif

Keisei Skyliner will only take about 45 mins. But good and fast don't come cheap.

However, for Skyliner and Limousine Bus do have this Ticket + 3 days Subway Pass combo, which is very good.

That right. In Japan they call Narita Airport as ''New Tokyo Airport''

In my opinion, it's a bit split up
Ginkakuji, Philosopher's Path and Kiyomizudera should probably in the same day (but there's be lots of walking)
You can do Ginkakuji->Philosopher's Path->Sanmon Gate+Aqueduct->Kiyomizudera->Yasaka Shrine->Gion

As for Fushimi, you can do it is quite near Kyoto Station actually

Why would you need a sim card where you can rent a portable wifi... unless you are working there, there's no reason to get a sim card for travel..
