Question, how expensive are things like groceries in Tokyo/Osaka? Things like uncooked rice, breads and eggs?
*
In Kyoto,

I will said that you should concentrate on how cheap the price you can get.
Raw rice-300-400 yen for 1kg pac, but they do have pre-cook rice, which you can
buy it and re-heat it in microwave, rice portion enough for 2 meal-200-300yen,

bread- a bread with super soft quality, 6-8 slice, ,150-200yen

egg- 12 egg about 200-300 yen

It depend on location and which store u going in, different store have different price,
generally, 7-11, Dawson and Familymart are the 3 big player they, in term of pricing,
each have it own attracting item. In every street u will see at least 1 big 3 grocery store
over they.

If you lazy to choose and cook, just buy their set meal for noddle or rice or Japanese set, the price
range from 300-700 yen.

For the pricing in Tokyo, might be slightly expensive, or waite for others forumer comments.

conclusion expensive.
300 yen are Rm10.  Everything you mention in Malaysia can get double to triple quantity

Plus u didnt add 8% sales tax .
*
Boss,

the rice can serve you 2 meal,
the bread & egg can cook for 2-3 person for breakfast lei,
some pack packer place, u can get free coffee as well.

6/9 - Morning flight via Peach to Osaka. Free day in Osaka. Maybe going Dotonbori and the likes. No real idea on what to in Osaka to be honest. Probably sightseeing.
7/9 - Another free day in Osaka without any real plans yet. 2 friends leaving on the evening flight back to KL, 2 of us still staying.

Can have a haft day tour to Nara to see the deer and surrounding, come back by 4-5pm, and  rest , come out again for Osaka night view/window shopping, since it summer, would advise to come out at night to have cooler temperature, can go Namba, Shinsaibashi and surround area, but be prepare to walk a lot.

8/9 - Universal Studios Japan
9/9 - Loiter around Osaka before leaving back to KL in the evening.

Dear Sifus,

Anyone here have experience using Icoca & Haruka? I plan to purchase the round-trip ticket. Once I activate the card on Day 1. Can I still reuse the return ticket to KIX on Day 10? Need advise.

Thanks.
*
Actually they will issue 2 pcs- Haruka ticket to you,
one for the outbound KIX( use on day 1) and another ticket for you to take
the Haruka back to KIX (use on last day), please get early to train station to
board the Haruka train which is painted in silver colour and the interval time
for non-peak hour is about 30 min one.

I was planning to travel alone in October, when I kinda thought it would be less hot. A friend had a trip planned in September though and invited me to tag along. Did Hong Kong alone though.
*
Sep-Oct for me still quite warm, a cooler weather will be on Nov-Dec.

Why, you have no ball or small bird? Any issue?

Guys I did a "panic buying" at AA cheap fare. Ended up flying in & out Nagoya this October. A bit regret that now I have to U-turn back to Nagoya to fly back, but there was no other cheap ticket that time. Also, it's not cheap, it's actually free. Pay for the minimal fee/tax only.

October is so damn near, aargh, what am I doing? Not prepared. No research. Not enough money. Backpacking freaking alone.

For now the plan is
- To find youth hostel, or BB, usual backpackers place.
- Not going to buy crazy ass expensive JR Pass.
- Thinking of getting those "daily passes" Kampung posted.
- Also the Willer bus sounds attractive, saving hotel one night!
- I know internet is a pain in the ass in JP, eventhough that's very important for such unplanned travel! To research.
- Not even sure going to Osaka or Tokyo

Info:
- The trip is 9 days long (excluding the 2 flight days)
- Usual tourist spot such as temple or themepark is not main priority since I'm on extremely tight budget (not that interested anyway)

Hi,

I been travel Kyoto-Osaka in may this year.
If you have limited budget, u need do more homework as suggestted by ours senior here. Basically, beside airfare, accommodation and transport cost were 2 main cost to travel in Japan, for yrs trip, i will advise that u concentrate on Nagoya, Osaka and Kyoto, this 3 city was big enough for u to look see look see for 9 days.

U need to book a backpacker hostel in advance, at least 1-2 month ahead, some good bacpacker hostel can be have for 2000 yen/nite, dun worry, some good hostel was really clean and equiped with full facilities like cooking. U can squeece abit on yrs budget by buying raw food from convinient store like 7 eleven, lawson, it can found nearly on every street . Some of the back packer hostel do provided free cooking oil, kichap, salt and sugar for their guests, so make use of this facilities for breakfast and dinner, u will suprise that, it not that expensive by own cooking in Japan.

I not agreed that most temple need to pay entrance fee, alot of temple and tourism spot in Kyoto neednot pay that, u just need to do more homework by study the japan guide before yrs trip, for me i would go into those free one or those very unique temple like golden temple, some place like Arashiyama is totally free by walking, the fushimi inari is anothrt unique place with free entrance.

For internet, u actually neednot it, most of the packbacker hostel was equiped with superfast internet connection, what u need to do at night was to surf net and take down the infor into a piece of paper or write on their tour map.

I spent about rm850 for my 6d5n trip in Osaka + Kyoto, exluded airfare, u can save alot on transportation, if you plan wisely.

Hi guys, any recommended budget/backpackers accomodatioj in osaka/kyoto/tokyo?
Those that uve stayed before?

Ill be travelling in Nov, looks like alot of accomodation already fully booked esp 20-ish onwards! 23rd nov Sunday is their labour day, inliew Monday 24th...will be a verry very crowded autumn i suppose.
*
In kyoto, backpacker hostel k's house kyoto,
Been stayed 4 nite on the dorm with 6 share room, clean, efficient and friendly hostel, suitable for people like to cook, have fully and modern kitchen for cooking, free coffee, cooking oil, salt, sugar etc. Have 600ft^2 hall for guest to meet up , with sofa and table while enjoy their food. But need book it early, fill up rate pretty fast.

In osaka, Oasis hotel in Tennogy station was a clean and nice hotel, kitchen was small for light cooking. Near to subway and train station, the price is reasonable.

Omg seriously?! Then I am afraid I have to sleep at airport! Any alternatives or tips to get to namba station except taxi after 1130pm?  I tried hyperdia, the last possible train is 1132pm
*
Actually local train was quite fast and alot faster than our KTM and reliable, but makesure
u have sufficient time to get to the station, buying ticket, walk down to platform,
which was opposite to the arrival hall. One thing you can do is hand carry a medium
backpack instead of carry luguage, you will wasting quite some time during baggage collection.

Nop,  Our KTM limited speed are 80Km/h.  Japan Local Train speed limited to 70km/h Only.   Limited Express are 130km/h

If compare on time.  Japan Train are 99% On time.
*
But our ktm door close time also a lot longer,
sometime they can stop at some station for few min without move.
on time ah.., Malaysia KTM almost 99% fail.

Hi guys, i need some advice on my itinerary, plan on taking my mom and 2 of her friends.
Estimate dates would be around 2nd/3rd week of April. (Hoping to avoid their major holidays but still able to see sakura)
The plan is to do sightseeing more than shopping.
Question :
1) would the plan be too rush?
2) would it be better if i add 1 more day each to kyoto and/or tokyo?
3) would the JR pass be sufficient?
Any recommendation are welcome
-
It definately too rush, i dun thing u can do it comfortably, travel with older and friend need to be slow, especially yr aim is to catch the sakura.

Try to cover Osaka and Kyoto only will be better idea, forget about Nagoya and Tokyo. U have miss out the Arashiyama in Kyoto, it can take at least haft day tour they.

Dun try to cover all those area and squeeze like running walkaton, i dare to say you not able to enjoy it.and yrs mom and uncle will complaint like hell. Do u see people come to enjoy the sakura by walk in walk out with pact schedule? Your plan look like" riding horse to see sakura".

Please bear in mind that sightseeing and shopping in Japan need alot of walking and stamina. You need to understand that bring the older for tour is to enjoy and relax, slowly to appreciate their culture, the sakura season, their temple. If you plan like that, with pact schedule like working in big city, it would be better stay home and working everyday.

please do some homework by study the geografic of each city, transport system. The way you plan will waste u alot money yet unable to enjoy the trip. Please read the travel japan guide also, alot of traveller have raise out this same plan/question over the year, and answer can be found they easily.

my airticket only rm300....JR pass rm900 shocking.gif  i can use the rm900 go korea liao cry.gif

my planning is nagoya -> kyoto -> osaka

dun think i need JR pass for the shinkansen...i will skip that..I will take the bus or normal train
*
Can consider Kansai area pass ,study the route before purchase,
For me, a Icoca card for train and subway is a must, it save the hassle to go to find and walking to main station to buy the bus pass.
Or buy daily bus pass
Or daily subway pass.

can rental would be good idea to travel around? i check rental cost only rm200/day

The most easy way is to take kintetsu train from Nagoya to Osaka, try google japan-guide.com in pg 1, and click in the map with nagoya wording.

Hi all,

I'm planning for backpack to Japan next year in early Feb. Tokyo-Osaka. worth it or not for me to take the JR pass ? Im not sure what will cover if we take JR pass. hmmm confused
*
Have u booking yrs air ticket already?, if u arrival in Tokyo and go back fr Osaka, then no point getting the JR pass, since u only utilise one way. If you arrival and depart on same city, u may consider JR pass, since u will fullly utilise it.
