Generally speaking maid cafe don't allow (free) photos, if want photo with maid need to pay extra. Even those maid standing on the streets handing out flyers oso a lot of them will kpkb if u take their photo.

If your budget allows and if you are doing free & easy I would say it's better to take pocket wifi. It's not necessary but it allows you to do research 'in the field' when your plans need changing.

Anyway regardles of whether you pocket wifi or no pocket wifi do your planning as detail as possible before flying. My first trip in Japan I planned everything down to which trains to take, what time, what platforms to go to etc etc.

Every time I go Japan I use http://www.globaladvancedcomm.com/pocketwifi.html ... I have zero idea how this compares to the other providers but it's good enough for me so never bothered switching providers.

mystays is a big hotel chain so each location will be different. but for me i stayed a few nights at the asakusa-bashi location a while back, no complaints for the cheap price except maybe the mattress a bit hard.
