Tips to Survive Major Steam Sales

Rule #1:
From now until the LAST DAY of the sale, if a game is on sale as a daily deal or flash deal, you can buy it. If it is only "on sale" through the entire sale, pass. Do not buy. Save your money (you may need it).

Rule #2:
Check each day for the daily deals, and monitor flash deals. As games come up that you want, you can get them. Just continue to exercise self control for games that are not a daily/flash deal.

Rule #3:
You can purchase the large packs, such as the THQ pack or Square-Enix/Eidos pack at any time if you wish. It is extremely unlikely that those bundles will be discounted any further, even though individual games in those packs may become daily deals. If you want a bundle, go for it. Lots of games, excellent price.

Rule #4:
On the LAST DAY of the sale, Steam traditionally makes its daily deals an encore of the most popular daily deals from the previous days. Go nuts. Buy everything you wanted. Other games are almost never on the daily deals during the last day, at this point, it is safe to buy anything else you've been waiting on.

Cheesenium, proof that I'm the only one who looks at first post; there are some broken links / code in your first post. smile.gif

Could you point out please?

It seemed to be working fine for me.

If the games link are broken, i think sometimes it doesnt connect well to aussie store.

This is what the race should be in the first place, not rigging it and let certain team win each day. doh.gif

Didnt play recently.

They overhauled a lot of stuff. Now have some survival elements.

2/3 of the game's content are in the game now. A bit unoptimised but it is pretty fun the last time i played. Combat not as good as Diablo but the RPG part is awesome. The game doesnt hold your hand too, you have to figure up a lot of stuff yourself.

The game engine is very dated though, even though some parts can be atmospheric and immersive.

Casualties are high this time. doh.gif

Through out the month of June, I bought:
Age of Mythology Extended Edition -----> RTS on sale, cant resist
Rise of Nations Enhanced Edition-----> STAHP, another one, quite cheap too, cant resist.
Grid 1 (DRM Free) from GOG-----> Probably one of my favourite racing games of all time. Must have a DRM Free version before it end up like TOCA 3.
Grid Autosport pre-order ------> Zero regrets so far, this is literally Project CARS Lite in some ways while it is an amazing and fun game to play. It is very close to how Grid 1 plays. Drove up the total cost about 50%. doh.gif
Football Manager for iOS ------> No bloody idea how to play. The UI really sucked.
Nexus The Jupiter Incident(DRM Free)
Divinity Original Sin----->This one also drove up the cost by 20%+
Witcher 2 Assassins of Kings------>GOG version is a chore to patch, might as well get the Steam version.
Banished
Tomb Raider + costume packs
Lego Marvel Super Heroes + DLC
Wolf Among Us
Space Hulk
Valiant Hearts
Beat Hazard Shadow Ops DLC
Company of Heroes 2 CE Upgrade----->Just as a sign of support to Relic for overhauling the gameplay for the better, in general

Almost $150 this time. Thats what happen if you avoid buying games for almost the whole of last year. doh.gif

Total cost after discounts: $148.00

If you want biggest bang for buck with one game, then Skyrim LE would be the best choice. Skyrim is a open RPG that does not restrict you from going anywhere you want in a pretty massive open world setting. The atmosphere is great for the curious to explore around with some great quests, like those Daaderic quests The mod scene is incredible so you will not run out of content to expand and improve the game to your liking. The combat and the main quest are pretty garbage though which is the game's major fault.

You asked for reviews on too many games, I dont think I could write much about it as there are too much to cover.

Borderlands 2, you might want to get the GOTY version with all the best content for the game, as it has Psycho and Tiny Tina DLC. You can play the game on single player until the level 60 as after that you need to coop. It is Diablo in FPS setting with almost all of problems from vanilla Diablo 3 from grindy end game, poor loot drops and unfair and boring end game which I wont recommend it. If you only want to play through once or twice for the story, then, might be a good choice.

Payday 2, wont recommend it as it is a strictly coop game. Personally, I dont like the devs direction on the game: bullet sponge enemies with random unlocks like a free to play MMO. Completely sucks if you want to play solo.

Brothers, kinda like a darker version of a Pixar movie. It is a pretty unique game as it is about an adventure of 2 brothers in finding a cure for his father. Can be emotional towards the end. Looks pretty damn amazing too. It is only 3-4 hours long though but the experience is what made it great, not length.

If you havent played any Arkham Batman games, get Arkahm Asylum or Arkham City first. Both games are much better than Origins for most. It is pretty much a game that let you be a Batman in a way that is close to the comics.

Bioshock Infinite, great looking game with a great story but the combat is pretty damn terrible. A bit too much padding in the middle of the game to make it outstayed its welcome.

EA can just go to hell really.. I'm just going to buy Fifa from them and maybe Dragon Age Inquisition..
Others I might not give a damn anymore especially Sims, NFS and others..
*
I won't even buy their stuff because I found other games to replace their products.

Divinity is just released today. Wasteland in August while pillars of eternity on sometime end of the year. Then witcher 3 on early next year. That is at least about 300 hours of quality RPG. Why do you even need dragon age inquisition? You are paying them to exploit you even more. It won't be a complete game on launch while you can never buy a complete edition because ea thinks no one buys them. Bioware name is tarnished beyond any redemption. So they just break content into small chunks to exploit you, maybe with microtransactions too, first time in an AAA rpg.

FIFA? I used to play it on ps3, ever since they start to shove ultimate teams in your face more and more, I think I can skip this game now.

EA is a shitty company that give zero shit about customer satisfaction. I have no reason to buy from them again this year.

Sins of solar empire has been out for more than 2 years. They still want legal action over it. Come on. Just develop your games than wasting time for this.

Okay, a bit of buyers remorse, kinda hate games with no direction on where to go for quests.

The rest are appealing, especially the reading part as this means that the game is much more reactive than voiced games.

Unfortunately, they are rarer than finding polar bears in Malaysia. In a country where it's culture thinks games for for kids, I ain't gonna put much hope.

you hate fallout 2?  cry.gif

i'm loving the lack of quest marker. i have to read dialogues carefully and venture forth based on given information instead of clicking mini map to see where the nearest flag is.
*
I actually hate it if the writing did not have it very clear on where to go, like some side quest of witcher 1. You just don't know where to go and waste hours wandering around like a fool.

The other parts, especially the turned based combat with environmental effects sounds incredible. I actually bought it because of that.

Find first, consider marry later then  brows.gif
Haha, it helps to find one early cause most of the good ones are snapped up early. However it is never the end of the world, hahaha, like what /k/ says, ada wang ada amoi  tongue.gif  Or you can always be a bit more adventurous, go hunt younger girls  brows.gif

On Divinity, aren't there something like a journal or quest tracker to help you to keep track on the status of your quests?
*
Well, that golden era has passed for me with the good ones are all taken up by now. Left the not so good ones or the rotten greedy ones, so I choose forever alone then. I am in an industry where I meet barely anyone so have to deal with it then. Pays well, a lot of fun and good career future, just that finding a SO is nigh impossible.

Nope, there won't be a journal to tell you where you need to go. You need to pay attention to the conversations to know where you need to go. I just hope that they made it clear though.

QUOTE(pikachu01 @ Jul 2 2014, 04:26 PM)
No idea, but it heard the writing is pretty good in their free to play text based adventure game so they are bringing the writing expertise into this game too. Other than that, I don't know.

It looks like FTL on a boat in some ways which I really want it too.
