Of all the targets and transfer talk, it is sad that we are not targeting any good defender or any FBs. Come one RB, you can do better than that. I hope the striker/midfielders are done after Markovic and Origi.

Would you have paid 24mil for untested, unproven Suarez or 50mil for Torres ?

Liverpool bought both Torres and Suarez for around that price range as well.

To be fair, we got both Torres and Suarez at about 20-25M and both of them were already stars for their club and country. Both captained their team and are adored by their fans.

That is true and i'm not dissing Torres at all. The point i'm making is that both Torres and Suarez were available during that particular transfer window. One was a proven premier league world class striker, the other was some dodgy south american striker who no one thought could become one of the world's most lethal forwards.

When we bought Suarez, he is already top class in both his club and country, so I don't know how to answer you question.
And yes I will buy Torress for 50m at that time.

Yeah true would get Torres for 50m at that time. Proven PL striker and at that time a world class one.

Yes he was top class but no where near world class. If he was then Real or Barca or even Chelsea would had been all over him. But 4 years down the line, one became an absolute world class striker and the other deteriorated at such drastic pace that he became one of Chelsea's most expensive flop.

So world class do not always translate to success. It's not always about buying the best player, quite often it's about buying the right player for the right reason.

FYI,

Moussa Sissoko (Newcastle) is also another LFC potential transfer target.

The scouts, managers or whoever that has a say in transfers will always look for a certain quality in the players they're after. Might not be the fastest, fittest, hardest tacklers or sharpest but how they will integrate with the existing players. Gelling into a team is as important (maybe more so) than individual brilliance.

For me, the current window is all about offensive type of players. Many of us would want BR to name a few defensive targets as well. While the best offense is the best defense might be exciting to watch, being generous at the back like last term is painful to us too.

Liverpool Echo say Liverpool FC had agreed fee of 6m (could rise to 9.5m) for Origi.

Well the price is still resonable.

Yup... last season was insane! Scoring 3 doesn't mean winning and that showed a lot about our generous backline. Pushing up high is nice to watch but bad for heart. cry.gif drool.gif

Responding to the bold part, if there are no guarantee big names will shine, the same goes to mediocre and no name players.
At least getting big name, the chance of them to flop is lower than no name. If we have to list out mediocre/no name players that failed, the list will definitely a lot longer than that.

If we really sell Suarez, that big sum of money should spend on a few world class player, big name. And not spend on a lot of mediocre/no name players. Quality > Quantity.
*
Didn't Spurs spend the money on the likes of Paulinho, Eriksen etc? They might not be world class but they are certainly not mediocre.

yes. Many times i thought suarez will be KO from tackles but he proved me wrong everytime

Of course, he falls from every touch that defenders are just afraid to touch him. Sometimes, refs tend to trust him. Better not hit him and risk a penalty. haha

In real fact,
Spurs only dropped 1 place and 3 points less than season before after spending big in the last transfer window.

With Bale 2012/2013
5th 72 points

Without Bale 2013/2014
6th, 69 points.

The difference is not actually that "big".

He's still very raw but looks like he's got a high ceiling - plays a lot like Sterling in the sense that he has no fear and has good physiques. The impression that i got when i watched him play was that he reminded me of Welbeck - im not sure that's a good or a bad thing.

Anything related to Welbeck is not good

Haha hopefully it's just me not getting the full picture of his ability - but he's only 19 so he's no where near a finished product. Masih budak mentah biggrin.gif

Well they did spend on many others, they clearly buying quantity.

And, Eriksen and Paulinho didn't really flop, they did live up to the expectation.
