No I am from 2013 batch haha I have graduated 2 years ago.

Yes I was from physics stream.

Recommended books

PA ---> Pelangi. Longman too long-winded.

Maths (T) ---> Oxford. But if you find it too challenging, switch to Pelangi first to build foundation. Exercise in Oxford can be overwhelmingly difficult.

Chemistry ---> Longman (I think now known as Sasbadi)

Physics ---> Tough to pick. Pelangi is not recommended for first term as you will get a big shock. STPM Physics is a huge leap from SPM Physics and Pelangi does not prepare work solution for its questions. I would say go for Sasbadi (or Longman) for the exercise, but Pelangi for the notes. Once you think you are prepared and could do all exercise in Longman, only then you go for Pelangi. But Longman questions are very tough too, so, good luck! Oxford and Pelangi Physics are written by same author, but somehow Oxford is much more inferior.

I bought one for each subjects but I did refer to other books from school libraries and that's how I made the comparison.

How to train 4 flat? Just do it your way. STPM is entirely different from SPM. In form 6 you MUST understand the theory behind the thing. If you insist to learn it like SPM where simply memorising a formula can lead you to an A+, you can drop out now. Haha seriously. You must understand the theory.

SPM is the past. People who did badly in SPM could get 4 flat in STPM and people who scored SPM may fail STPM. It's two different things that shall not be brought to compare anymore.

How many hours depend on you, but kind advice: study smart, not study hard.

okiee... wonderful advice btw thanks haha notworthy.gif

about understand the theory means how?? because in PA, most of the dasar-dasar are easy to understand, but according to my teacher, most of the stpm PA question in structure is very very detailed wan, really mah?? unsure.gif i heard one of my senior friends complain that sometimes that PA structure asks very insignificant and unexpected wan haizzz.. shocking.gif

so if i wan understand theory, i must first understand how the theory works rite?? like in physics, instead of blind memorises the formula, i must understand a situation, and from that situation, i list out the conditions/things and derive it out rite??

for eg: in gravitation chapter, in order to derive the force of gravity formula, i must create a situation where there is 2 mass of planets(M and m), and in between got distance r, and the newtons constant of gravitation (G), so in the end formula is:

F=G(Mm)/r^2, which shows that the force is inversely proportional to distance btw the 2 bodies.. this is how i teach myself about the formula... ha, also, i must need to know how to apply the formula in any given situation/question, rite??

btw if i'm not mistaken got one thread here long time ago for lower 6 2015/2016 wan..do u know where is it??? sweat.gif

Umm basically like....for Chemistry, understand VSEPR theory (in Chapter 3, you will learn soon), only then you try to determine what is the shape of molecules. Don't blindly memorise to which shape they belong.

In Physics, understand the mechanism of heat transfer, don't just memorise formula. Just examples

You can't fail MUET because there is no pass and fail, only Band 1 to Band 6.

Just read newspapers like The Star on a daily basis, and you should be fine. Getting a Band 3 is not tough.

MUET would test you only factual essays. You are expected to write a mature piece of work I would say most candidates have yet to attain such maturity. Childish stories like those in SPM need to go. Read how the Star columnists write their opinions, you are expected to write like how they do.

Anything about abolishment of term 3 retakes, you will have to refer to MPM websites. There can be tons of rumour but if there is no black and white, it is not official.

No, I am afraid there's no alternative newspapers except The Star. New Straits Times doesn't seem nice. If you are in Sarawak, perhaps New Sarawak Tribune and The Borneo Post use simpler English (I don't know why but I do feel such, I don't encounter lots of bombastic words reading the latter two newspaper).

And you can begin improving your English by attempting to write proper English in this forum. And sorry to judge a book by its cover, but you are a girl, right? Just curious.

Begin with The Star. Once you believe your English has improved, you can either move on to novels, or foreign newspapers like Guardian from the UK or New York Times.

Nothing to be ashamed of. Being in peralihan was the past. You might have moved on and become better so I think it's fine as long as you do understand what situation you are.

You a boy? Seriously? Haha because boys rarely type in such colloquial way in websites except facebook.

You just need to read more and be exposed to English more until you feel comfortable using it, and you will slowly begin to use idioms as well. It's all about each individual's confidence in using the language and the confidence is gained by exposure.

I got a Band 5, but merely scraped through it by scoring 220, the lowest mark for the Band.

You are welcome. Enjoy form 6. It was the best time in my life!

Well it's a bit late but I'll still accept it. Haha thanks. I sat for MUET in November 2012 so it was quite a long time ago.

There are plenty of Band 5 people here, most of them are currently inactive for unknown reasons but they will come back and you'll encounter them soon.

You may start brushing up your English by starting with the most financially friendly method - reading newspapers. RM1.20 a day for The Star is definitely the cheapest method I can think of.

No there are plenty of new form 6 students you just have to search around.

It's already official that starting from this year, Lower Six are not allowed to repeat during Sem 3 exam. If I'm not mistaken, I have read this through a 'surat pekeliling'.

Just Visiting By Another alternatives I would suggest is Readers' Digest and Times Magazine. They are pricey, though.

Kanan Jarrus Hi, and welcome to this forum!! I am the thread starter, scgoh123. If you need any enquiries regarding your subjects, fell free to ask here! I am taking the same subject combo as you!

It seems that you are the only lower six here. You've come knocking a wrong door though XD. Here's the right place for you:

In this thread, some of the users who scored Band 5 (and above (?)) are:
sagethesausage
regan96 - I think he scored a band 6 if not mistaken.
RED-HAIR-SHANKS - Don't know why he's inactive in this forum nowadays.
And me.

It's better to learn your mistakes now than later. Since it's just a beginning, you have a lot of time to refine your English skills. And start now, before everything's too late.
