By replacing default Cisco Linksys E1200 to Asus RT-N56U, will it make a huge difference in terms of surfing, downloading, streaming online?

I'm staying alone so nobody is sharing the network.
*
Surfing and streaming, I am unsure. But for downloading, the RT-56U is very convenient - with an external USB hard drive connected to the router, I can download stuff at the router (a web applet called Download Master) directly without needing a PC, plus a few other extra features like VPN, DLNA media server, FTP server etc..

Not forgetting the fact that the RT-56U is a concurrent dual band wifi router - both 2.4GHz and 5.0GHz.

Guys, off topic sikit ya. I am a happy 1+ year user of Time Fibre Broadband at home in Tg Bungah, Penang.

Am quite sick of the bloody Streamyx connections in my office in Georgetown, near Weld Quay. 3 lines and all are really sh1t. Slow, unstable, always disconnecting. Does Time provide any non-fibre internet connectivity solutions for areas without fibre coverage?

I really want to remove all traces of Streamyx from my office mad.gif mad.gif

Can someone ping these two addresses for me? Depending on the result, I may be interested in TIME fibre. But ping first please before I go any further.

Reduction of broadband prices my foot.. Streamyx just offering a new 1Mbps package with a 1GB quota at RM 38.. I don't consider that a reduction of prices..
*
Not sure about Streamyx, not really my area of interest.

This part of the article interests me, though..

For now, TM has cut RM20 off its 10Mbps UniFi monthly package from RM199 to RM179, and Maxis says it will have something special by the end of the month.

I would love to see my RM179 (100Mbps, 100GB Quota) package change to RM149 for the same stuff or perhaps stick at RM179 with 300GB quota cool2.gif cool2.gif

Thus far time line is ok....I am happy with it...

Welcome the price deduction and let our finger cross... I don't hope much but at least it can go lower 6% (absorb the GST maybe)

For 8Mbps line, you can get 7.5Mbps average
For 15Mbps line, you can get 13.7Mbps average

Speed boost can give me average 45mbps

Maybe can someone else share the speed of 20Mbps, 30 Mbps, 50Mbps or 100 Mbps?
*
Generally happy Time user here too.

On my 100Mbps plan, I can get an average of 90 or so Mbps with multiple runs of Speedtest.net. Only if connected via cable to my Asus RT-N56U router.

Time Fibre user since Dec 2013. No router issues here because I have been using my own Asus router all this time.

The Time-provided modem is still there. I believe this Huawei modem thing is called the ONU.

I have 2 Time-provided routers with me, a Linksys E1200 received in 2013 when I first signed up for Time, and a Linksys X3500 received when I upgraded to the 100Mb plan. I prefer to use my own Asus RT-56U router, though.

In short, my answer to you is 2 hardware smile.gif

The RT-N56U is an old model. Perhaps you can consider a newer model like the AC56U or AC66U or AC68U. nod.gif

any other suggestion with something similar.... is beyond my budget.... 600-1000 for a router , my pocket will have a big hole

Maybe you can consider another brand like TP-Link. There are also lower priced Asus routers, try asking in the Asus thread.

I wish the 8/15/30/50 Mb plans will be reduced 30% each from RM 129/179/279/399 to RM 99/129/199/279. May really be tempted to pay penalty and jump from my current 100Mb/RM179 (100GB quota) to 30Mb (no quota) drool.gif drool.gif

Yours hw ver is 1.0? Default is 1.0.01.002.

Are you having any issue with it? Buzz me ya if you need any help.
*
Thanks both yeapch and jjj2 for your responses. Yeah, my x3500 is the 1.0 HW with 1.0.01.002 firmware. No issues really, was just curious if there was a newer firmware for it especially since I could not find a lot of info regarding this this router model on the Linksys site.

BTW, I only use the X3500 as an N750 wifi access point since my Asus RT-N56U (N600 wifi disabled) is so much better as the main router.

Annoucement

Great news Time Fibre Home broadband will be revised all its unlimited packages effective 18  May 2015 for a limited period such as below

10 Mbps -  RM 129
20 Mbps -  RM 179
30 Mbps -  RM 219
50 Mbps -  RM 249

Monthly boost to 50 Mbps for 30 Hours also apply for 10/20/30 Mbps packages.
*
Aiya, it would've been nicer if the packages were spaced rm40 apart, 10mb at 109, 20mb at 149, 30mb at 189 and 50mb at 229. Anyway, u know me, bro. Check up on the 50mb 249 upgrade for me, yeah biggrin.gif biggrin.gif

Hi guys, I just installed for 10mb, but only manage to get 5mb on wifi but Lan is 10mb.

When I talked to dealer Y, he said is like that one wor, they don't guarantee wifi only lan.

Have you guys experience this issue, appreciate your advise any solutions? If no, I may need to cancel. Thks
*
I don't think I have ever experienced the same Internet performance on WIFI vs LAN before. I'm using an Asus RT-N66U router with my Time 50Mb connection and I see these speeds at the moment.

1. Laptop wired to the router = 45-50Mb
2. Laptop wireless to the router in the same room = 30-35Mb
3. Laptop wireless to the router in another room = 20-25Mb
4. PC in my study room, wired to the router via AV600 PowerLine connection = 25-30Mb
5. iPad in the toilet, wireless to the router = 20-25Mb
