Hi Sifus,

Hi i am currently looking to upgrade my current PC display setup.

Current setup:
Model: Panasonic Viera TH-L32X50K
Size: 32-inch
Resolution: 1080p

Other spec not sure since even uncle Gugel didn't give a lot of clear results for this model. Too old I guess, before 2014 I think.

Use case:
1. Gaming - open-world types (Red Dead Redemption, No Mans Sky) and FPS (Battlebit, Apex Legends)
2. Media consumption - movies, internet browsing, Youtube

Order of priority for considerations:
1. Visuals - for movies and cinematic views. If possible would like to graduate from 1080p. 2K is good enough for me.
2. Performance - since I play FPS as well, would like to have good refresh rate as well.
3. If it helps, I am also using MSI RTX3060Ti Ventus 2X OC - so would like to harness its capabilities as well.
4. Budget: Aiming for mid range models, so I can consider up to RM3k.
For the new display / monitor, my requirements are as follows:
1. Size: 32-inch preferred. But if big a bit like 34inch still can consider.
2. Have build-in sound speaker (to watch movies not preferred wear headphones)
3. Form factor: Flat screen, not curved.
4. Panel type: IPS display or OLED if possible (best for viewing)
5. Refresh rate: 144Hz is ok (current display is 60Hz I think, so would like a smoother experience)
6. Prefer TV type if possible (with remote as it will dual function as TV as well) - but can consider to monitors (no remote) if not possible.

A cursory Google search yields so many choice. Would like the Sifus to help recommend which monitors / displays are best suited for this use case.

Sorry if in wrong thread.

Thanks thumbup.gif

Basically they is no mid range. Either cheap not good, or expensive very good.

Your budget cannot get OLED, OLED minimum requirement RM 4.5k++

I see. How expensive is "very good"?

Still can consider if near RM3k.

Nothing much can help as this monitor is entry level HDR, any monitor label DisplayHDR™ 400 is poor performance in HDR.

For a proper HDR, DisplayHDR™ 600 is minimum requirement and recommended for DisplayHDR™ 1000 and above (this included IPS, VA or mini-LED in either)

For OLED only, it is ok for any HDR certification, this included DisplayHDR™ True Black 400.
Remember DisplayHDR™ 400 and DisplayHDR™ True Black 400 is two different certification.

In future if you plan to get OLED monitor, try avoid Asus brand, currently Asus had issue on HDR output which look incorrect and dull even on OLED, this included PG42UQ, PG48UQ and also PG27AQDM. Also avoid Acer brand as Acer Predator X27U is the only OLED monitor did not provide way to turn off ABL.

You can try Microsoft Store - Windows HDR Calibration for getting slightly better output but don't put too high hope on it as this is hardware limitation where 400 nits (except OLED) is never enough for a proper HDR output.

Also try adjusting the SDR content brightness to get a much better output in Windows desktop environment. Default value is 40.
This SDR content brightness only impact to Windows desktop environment, no impact in HDR gaming or HDR video.

Why now all monitor is VA panel ? and all pushing 144hz as gaming ?

For months , can't even find a decent IPS Monitor.Review all only talk about gaming monitor but not productive type.

Andrewtst
why you stop buying 60hz ? It had been so hard to find an IPS QHD 27 inch 60/75hz monitor.
All over rm700-1k
No reviews on monitor at all on rtings for 60hz or 2k.https://www.rtings.com/monitor/tools/table/120742 All only focus on expensive monitor.

Any suggestion on 60hz ,  2k IPS monitor below rm600 ?
*
60hz gaming monitor no need to review, as it is low end where basically all same.

Sorry to said monitor below RM 600 all perform not good, this price is always superb low end spec since I know monitor.

Animation smoothness is important part to me, that the reason I don’t use 60hz monitor. Minimum 120hz is basic requirement now, not even smoothness, also can more prevent tearing on gaming as it is very easier over 59fps which means once you hit 60fps, tearing will occurred not matter the monitor got adaptive sync, g-sync or free sync. Vsync do can prevent tearing for fps higher than refresh rate but it gives big delay issue.

And sorry no recommendations for RM 600 or below even for 1080p monitor, you want 1440p which is even not possible.

Now monitor had many variety from TN (crap), VA (crap also unless you spend around RM 4k, IPS (for budget should look for this but not your budget of below RM 600, a good IPS 24” 1080p already required around RM 630) and the best OLED (minimum cost is RM 4k).

For your budget with a little increase, then I can recommended you the AOC 24G2SP, this is a very good 24” 1080p SDR IPS 165hz monitor, around RM 630 can get now from Lazada or Shopee.

Sifu for 1440p 32inch. What is best in the market?
*
Sorry I don't recommended 1440p in 32" due to the PPI is low. So no recommendation.

I always suggest
  • 1080p - 24"(Wide), 29" (Ultrawide)
  • 1440p - 27"(Wide), 34" (Ultrawide), 49" (Super Ultrawide)
  • 2160p (4K) - 32" and above (Wide), 40" (Ultrawide), 57" (Super Ultrawide)

Is it normal to see the red colour turn to orangish red when HDR is on in your monitor when in desktop?
*
It is not common if your HDR is truly HDR with proper calibration out of the box.

Normally a monitor with mininum HDR 400 or below will have this issue.
HDR need to be at least HDR 600 and above, HDR 1000 is recommended and OLED display is highly recommended.

For 32" 4K, please wait for year 2024, many decent 32" 4K in OLED will be release in year 2024.

Wish AOC will bring this in. Usd250 for a mini-led that is positively reviewed by rtings 👍 most important its usd250 only

It is only 336 dimming zones, this will happened a lot halo effect when using for productivity and also white area in dark scenes. To me it will be very annoying.

But as you said the price is very tempted!

It is cheap and has good review. Not everyone can spend 3-4k for a monitor, let alone 8-9k. At least it looks promising, every budget u get local dimming panel which is already good. At least better than hdr400 panel no? Lol
*
I seriously dislike mini LED especially if it is in VA. The dirty look and blooming very distracting. Mini LED is not a good display in my opinion.

Either normal IPS or straight up to OLED is the better option. 😊

32" OLED inkambing

The just unveiled UltraGear monitor, known as “32GS95UE”, marks the company’s fist design featuring the innovative “Dual-Hz” feature. As per the official announcement, this monitor provides support for two different resolutions and refresh rates: 4K resolution (3840×2160) at 240Hz and Full-HD (1920×1080) resolution at 480Hz. This monitor can switch between these modes easily.
*
If only the 1080p can natively as clear as but I doubt it can, some more this is 32”. I would said it is a lie. This monitor is still natively 4K. Reduce resolution increase refresh rate is no surprise manage to achieve IMO.

Anyway this monitor look pretty slick and nice and finally they is 32” in 4K OLED.

ngl the only thing I eye on is that 4K OLED finally hitting 32" market. been waiting for quite a while. my LG C2 too big so it returns to its original form - a TV in living room
*
Yup I also feel 42” is too big, 42” good is 100% scaling in 4K look very fine but the screen size just way too big, I never put anything on top when using it now especially on productivity usage. 😅

But I spend too much on my LG OLED Flex, I don’t think I will ever change again, this monitor is not easier to sell and it is freaking heavy which delivery fees will be not cheap.
