grab the one that's the cheapest, don't think there will be much different between the cards.
*
Okay, thank you for your suggestion

QUOTE(rav3n82 @ Jul 25 2014, 10:25 AM)
There are some small differences probably in the clock speed, and also the fans and heatsink used. You might need to check out each individual cards to see their differences. In terms of performance, they're not likely to be of much difference, so I would advise you to go for the cheapest available.

Thank you for your opinion, I have forgotten the link to a russian website that does the benchmark where you could do a series of direct comparison, I will trace back my messages as I did post the link here I think.

QUOTE(Zgames @ Jul 25 2014, 12:29 PM)
I'd say if you can top up RM 20 more you can get GTX 750 alredy. On par with 260.
*
Err... I will stick with ATI cards since it's my personal preferences, thank you for your suggestion however

Hi guys, I've read about 30 pages of this thread as I'm trying to learn everything about building rig. Just for learning sake, I have a few questions.

1. is the brand of motherboard make any difference or just features and fanboy preference? I didn't see any other brand suggestion besides Asrock.

2. What are the criterias in choosing a good mobo? Besides compatibility.

3. Is cooling system necessary for non-OC and slight OC?

4. Optimisation between GPU and CPU? For gaming.

Please don't flame me if my questions sound stupid or naive. I'm here to learn and all ears notworthy.gif
Thanks in advance, sir!

1. abidgreen has answered one of the factor of ASrock motherboard there.

2. Price/Performance ratio = Cheaper + Good Chipset = Buy it.

3. Depends, is your non-OC build a rendering workstation Xeon that opens 24/7? Then a normal air cooler would be great. Brands like Noctua, CM, Scythe and many more delivers good cooling. Slight OC just go with cheap CM that has a good price/performance ratio.

4. Hmmmm well for gaming mindset for me is More power on GPU and 30-40% on processor. If it's a 3D rendering rig 50-50. Pair the best with the best. That's why you've might seen an i5 paired with a 780 Ti/R9 290X or so. When it comes to rendering rig it's Xeon paired with 770 or higher.

Thanks so much for the explanation! Anyway, are there any reasons to choose well-known brands over the smaller one? Say Gigabyte and ASUS over Asrock. MSI over Gainward, Leadtek. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

Well other "branded" brands are slightly overprice. Such as the Asus GPU. They have great cooling solution for their Nvidia Graphic Cards but isn't justified in prices because usually let's say that a 750 Ti Gainward Golden Sample an OC unit is RM 520+, if it's Asus/Gigabyte cost around RM 70+ more. And have you seen MSI 750 Ti Gaming Edition? Cost RM 639. If you like it and money isn't a problem, just go for it. But if you're a cheap @ss just go with cheap stuff.

All the brands are good. Failure rate of each certain item is random. And that's why we just go for cheap stuff that delivers performance. Unless if it's a PSU. If it's a PSU you never go cheap stuff because Cap Ayam will literally blew up in your face.

Some good branded PSU are Seasonic, Corsair, FSP are to name a few.
