Question to Everdying:

since you're fan of SG have you ever notice any sonic differences with old pickup ring style mounting compared to the bat wing style pickguard??
*
nope.
for most usually is just preference of look.
i like the pickup ring cos of small guard...of cos if mounted directly to wood would be my preference...this one would have differences...
the only real drawback of bat wing is the pickup usually needs something under it to keep it parallel to the strings...else usually for the bridge...the end where the polepieces are sit further away from strings than the other end.

almost any sonic differences between guards is just down to the diff in overall construction and pickups used...cos diff models...'61 reissue vs standard etc.

Can anyone recommend a good luthier around APAC region?

Best if you have experience with them yourself, I'm looking for someone that can build set necks.

mostly theory and musical applications

like 7ths and 9ths , all over the fretboard,

1 hour and he just dumps an entire summery , which will take years to figure out

Saw somebody posted on GN la actually, which led to Ola. I feel like my "up-to-date ness" mcm slow a bit di 😅.

Maybe not so much the modern sound, but rather the features - the back end is probably where its mostly at. Built in dummy load, independent channel IR w/usb, direct out, variable cab load, ext bias, headphones, variac power...they finally getting on the band wagon. Which seems too little to late la in an age where end users just use modellers or simply "sedut" their sound. Brands like H&K, ENGL, Blackstar, AMT, DV Mark have had these for years. Ah well.

Mark V:35/25 had the cab clone ,headphone out
Mark V had external bias, but duno for what reason no cab clone

but they were old la, before the days everyone got into IR so you only had a dummy load, some 1-2 speaker sims, and thats about it.

which the amp or the cab clone?

the cab clone was quite much hated, i didnt give it a try. it was notorious for the standalone unit where cpt & chappers based it, then mesa intervened, and redid a really awkward video saying how "good" it was

should probably hook it up for a test, see how the clone sounds

The amp. Search came up Mark Five:35 - 35/25/10-watt from Sweetwater. Not sure if that is exactly the right unit but it had the right features and quite a number of user reviews, all good.
