hmm.....u think the s5is will produce better image quality due to its 8mp? the sensor still the same size wonder if the DIGIC III image processing will produce better results i guess 6-7 mp is still the best for ultrazoom cameras but much harder to sell

s3is or fz8 now i have added h7/d9 sony to the equation h9 has 15x zoom, nightshot where u can take pictures in total darkness, and a tilting 3inch screen. h7 has the same specs but no nightshot and fixed 2.5 inch lcd both come with remote control

i really like the s3is and i have about one more week to decide before i make my purchase. one thing that i dont like about the s3is is the 2inch sreen. and not to mention the EPV which is relatively bad.
i dint really use the lcd when i tested it, so i want to know from u guys if the screen gave any problems ? like visibility in bright light....etc

should i get it over the fz8....cause my brain is hurting by trying to decide man.... GOD! i know the panny have some issues with higher ISO shots. the noise is rather unbearable at ISO 400 i dont know about the s3is as i have not used it (besides fondling it in a shop) how is low light shooting and picture quality at higher ISO shots?

thanks tongyam i really wanted the h7/h9. i tested it during the sony fair in one Utama.. the 3inch screen is really killer plus it has 15x zoom. come with remote control. but based on the user comments, it really has some problem with the noise reduction. some parts of the pictures are smeared and has the a watercolour look to it... such a disappointment since h5 was great albeit expensive
haih...maybe its due to the stupid freaking pixel wars. the more is always better..pushing the camera to 8mp is a bad thing for me
however, since both panny and canon cameras are 6-7 mp relatively better image quality compared to the new h9/h7 sony. what a waste since they are priced competitively (1699 and 1899)

haha.. ultimately, despite all thoughts and preferences, it is still safe to say that the s3is is a great camera. like all other products, we have choices and each product has its own pros and cons.
i mentioned the sony h9/h7 because it is priced similarly to the s3is but to me, i have seen the pictures taken with the sony and it is a bit disappointing really. if it is for 6X4 pics, then no probs but most camera can do that.
due to the number of cameras in the market, it is really difficult to pin one down as king. we have Fz8, olympus 550uz , canon s3is, sony h7/h9 , fuji 6500 adn 9600 and also kodak z712 all competing in the same market for prosumer cameras.
but personally, in terms of overall, s3is is my choice. great price (now) with great overall quality.
my thoughts...i might be wrong

blek, after all my research and evaluation, i finally decide to settle for s3is my girlfriend feels that the fuji9600 looks to monsterish, besides, its around RM 1800 i really wanted to choose the fz8 over the s3is but i found the camera failing when it comes to handling of noise over ISO200. sad. because for ISO100 shots, they if i may say produce great pictures. the extra one mp does not make any difference. i really liked the EVF and screen but it does not justify the price. its much cheaper than the s3is in the US but it has the same price here. i liked the fact that it comes with lens hood and adaptor but it will be difficult to find lenses anyway. then i went on to consider the h7/h9 and it was disappointing to say the least. image was bad when zoomed in and the noise reduction is way too high i guess theres a reason why so many prefer the s3is. i can hardly criticize it (maybe 2.5inch lcd and better EVF?) for its image reproduction. ( maybe improve on the lens cap as well for that matter) i hope hop into the bandwagon by next week. depends on when the freaking credit card arrives)

QUOTE(alex_8982 @ May 24 2007, 10:45 AM) Thats the way... Bro... I was thinking about that too... I wanted to get a DSLR, but rather than investing so heavy.. Would like to try out on prosumer camera 1st.. Crawl we know lar, walk is what we need to learn before we run... Where are you getting your camera? How much is the whole package cost? i will be getting it next week. price is around 1400-1699 the thing is that i'm buying it with credit card so i can only buy it around 1650-1699 with 2 gig card, mini tripod and case. its rather standard. maybe i'll get it from Shong Lee one u or Fotokem since they over 0% interest hmm...if cash and carry can get around rm1299. i remember seeing it in Lowyet trade area. i was thinking of getting a dlsr...like you but i like the flexibility of pro sumers. i dont have to worry about changing lenses as well. besides, i like recording movies...what more with a camera. we may learn together eh!

hm... its true that m8 is in a different category. it would be really nice if i could afford the V-lux 1 though. if money wasn't a factor =( besides, i really wanted to know whether fz50 or fujis9600 was better considering that they have similar prices. anything more expensive would have me eating bread for a month
