TS should put a warning on the 1st page or some where that this thread has a anti-Razer sentry.

"Beware do not mention Razer, else be prepared for the worst!"  tongue.gif  tongue.gif  tongue.gif

I getting my popcorn ready, not going to get involve tonight.
*
We no anti-Razer. Just buy at your on risk.

Let's take a look at the "I owned Razer Blackwidow Ultimate 2014.. Green Backlight" statement again.

If you replace the "Razer Blackwidow Ultimate 2014" in the statement with "OTD 356CL" or "HHKB Pro HG JP".

I owned OTD 356CL.. Green Backlight

Let's be honest, if there is a person come to the thread and post something like that. What you want to respond?

still very happy with my current kb, my filco can use on mac rite?  huh, master race?
*
Yup, can use. Works perfectly. laugh.gif

Additional info:
For Filco Majestouch 2 TKL, when you use in mac OS,
the modifiers changed to:
Ctrl Command Option Spacebar Option Command PN Ctrl

The PN = PC Application, in mac OS, mac don't recognize what this modifier do/function.
So, you may remap to other useful keys. nod.gif

Master race Topre. laugh.gif

The Filco Mechanical Keyboard itself is RM369. I'm not sure about the keycaps as I'm looking for them myself.  sweat.gif

Keycaps more expensive than your keyboard. laugh.gif

Holy-f. It's that freaking expensive? That being said, is there a clone version of the Dolch keycaps then?
I love the colour scheme, won't mind trading a bit of quality off for a cheaper price.
*
around RM550-600 for a GMK dolch keycaps set.
God tiers. brows.gif

You may look for Taihao Dolch. It's very cheap, has similar color scheme too.

But are you? If you are then okay lah, but otherwise no reason to cheap out on keycaps. It's a matter of durability too. Cheaper keycaps tend to worn out and shine faster.

Plus the fact he has scabby fingers should be more reason to get tougher keycaps.  biggrin.gif
*
Still GMK is made from abs material.
Born as abs, shine as abs.
cheap abs keycaps and gmk do shine at the almost same rate.
Some people gmk shine in 1 week. Some 1 month or more than that.

is there a way to consistently get the shine on all the surface of the abs keycap? at least they will all look shiny all over.
*
You need manually swap those keycaps to location of certain characters that always type by you.
For example, "a", "o", "e", "u", "i", "h", "t", "n", "s".
After long time of hard work, you may get whole keycaps shiny. brows.gif

QUOTE(yukihatsu @ May 16 2014, 09:37 PM)
Point noted. Would love a cheaper alternative with decent quality if any exists at all. Besides, I (in my humble opinion) don't think that the difference in quality between the replica keycaps and the original ones justifies the 5-6x times difference in price.
*
For GMK (doubleshot abs), hard to find cheaper/replica replacement because GMK was using Cherry profile.
Even taihao has the color scheme of some GMK, but still taihao was using OEM profile.

For BSP (dyesub thick pbt), there is imsto which is cheaper alternative. imsto is cherry profile too.

shouldn't look that bad when all the keycaps look 'uniform'-ly shinny right? haha
*
Of course will look very nice if full sets uniformly shiny. laugh.gif

But, you know need really hardwork and dedicated motivation to make the keycaps reach such level.
Because, when typing, our fingers touch certain area of each keycaps. Normally we will touch on bottom area of keycaps rather than top.
So, bottom area shine faster. brows.gif

But then the joy of using quality products (keycaps included) is very satisfying. The touch, the feel, the whole experience. So if you can afford it then get the best. Better pain one time and use for a long time than get cheap and always have to change. But as I mention earlier, know when to spend and when not to.
*
If you want to get keycaps use for long time and will not shine, then get a pbt 1. Not pain also and affordable.
Brand like keycool cheap in price yet good quality. thumbup.gif
Can last long, resist shiny.
So, not that expensive keycaps only can last long, cheap 1 also can.

Just avoid those backlit abs keycaps, those not last long yet expensive.

Not everyone can afford those GMK and BSP keycaps set. Just get those you able to afford, and happy with it.

I was given to understand that HHKB is the top end (though different switch) and simplistically speaking I can afford those as well (but since need to import, not too much of a fan); how much different is the build quality?
*
I will answer your question regarding HHKB (Happy Hacking Keyboard).
» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

HHKB Professional 2 have the best quality, on par with Filco Majestouch 2 TKL. Best quality of manufactured keyboard. nod.gif
However, HHKB Pro 2 is lightweight (530g), so, not as tank / solid like Filco MJ2 TKL(1.35kg).
The most attractive part of HHKB is its layout. laugh.gif
HHKB using cup rubber switch with tactile feedback. 45g actuation force. flex.gif

so I take it when talking about build quality, filcos are the best you can get? i am well aware hhkb is expensive mainly onĀ  switch, but having to import something so expensive during the first dive is against my intuition.

filco dont offer 60% layout though, but I guess that's still space saving. what about the vortex though, love their font.? I know this is probably stupid but i just have to ask, the filcos dont seem to get much love here, why?
*
Yup, Filco quality is the best. smile.gif

About the font, really depends on individuals preferences. I think quite ok vortex poker II stock keycaps font. Stock pbt keycaps, so very worth for the price.
Pbt resists keycaps shiny. nod.gif

Why do you think Filco don't seem to get much love here? rclxub.gif

dont see much result on search. my guess would be no led options and price but hey, im new here.

i see cyntrix is selling vortex pbt but no black/grey. too colorful for my taste. oh well. thanks for answering my question, filco tkl it is.
*
Which keyboard brand that always show in the search result? Ducky? laugh.gif

Filco is classic keyboard with no LED, no media keys, etc. laugh.gif

yeah.
btw last q - would you go filco tkl or vortex tkl if the criterion was build quality? though i guess since on the tkl model keycaps arent ABS would offset quite a large sum of keycaps quality.
*
My priority is layout first, quality build is second.
For your question, Filco TKL vs Vortex TKL.. Of course I will go for Filco because of the quality build (TKL layout).

i type a lot, to toggle from hiragana to katagana and katagana to hiragana, i have to alt + caps lock and ctrl + caps lock respectively, that extra 2 buttons from JIS might come in handy, the only irritating thing is hunting kana keycaps  doh.gif
and last but not least - exotic  whistling.gif

then i understand why you need that two switches.
enjoy. it will be a lot more convenient with that.
but keycap replacement is a problem for cherry mx switch

there is JP keycaps for same, made by PFU.
and it is only for hhkb pro/2 jp layout.
*
The jp legends keycaps made by Topre corp. for Realforce and Happy Hacking keyboard JIS layout keyboards.
Full pbt dyesub including spacebar also pbt. notworthy.gif
For Topre users only. sweat.gif
