U guys.. i dunno lah wat to say. Im just asking simple question on power consumption of both card, and u go far ahead assuming everything based on your suit. I know what im doing, and I can afford it. Ive been using ATI cards since 2006, I know every of its quirks.

Its surprising actually when I always get proper answer more easily from kopitiam section.

nvm la. I already got my hands on both card. I can measure myself now.

Thanks anyway.

*just because you have little bit more money and can afford it doesn't mean you have to stop controlling your usage or made no effort to cut your electricity usage rolleyes.gif .

Fren,

If power efficiency is your top priority, then the new R9 285 chip would be your best bet. Tweaked GPU with slightly better features and power usage. U can check some reviews for it.
There's no use of you to buy a powerful card like the 290x/290 (and more expensive) and to throttle it to save power and obtain reduced performance at the same time.

AND The performance of the 285 should sit in between The Sapphire 270X Toxic and the R9 280X.

we are not assuming, we use the information on power consumption provided by credible sites and then advice you on what would be most suitable.

trust me, when youre comparing the perf difference between a R9 270X vs a R9 280X, there is quite a gap of performance diff. you will notice the difference, and ask yourself can you deal with the difference?

its the same subjective problem where i used to game with a GTX660, i thought its performance was already decent. and then i upgraded. i can safely say ill never go back to that level of performance again. there just is too much of a gap

its not also abt the "i-can-afford-this-card-so-i-can-afford-to-pay-this-level-of-electric-bill" matter. as i reiterate my previous point, tech these days are already power efficient enough to the point where the power consumption gap between mid end to high end is not much. say (an example) a 200W card can give 100% level of perf, then a 250W can give a 200% level of perf. which would be a better buy? 50W could be considered alot to most users, but given that level of performance trade off, its much worth it. your original question was a 'what is the most powerful build i can get at lowest power consumption?" and you were comparing the 270X to 280X, 280X still ofc the more powerful one but with higher power consumption

how would you define a proper answer anyways? if we were to agree with what you are planning in the first place? do not discount our opinions, were just planning to avoid the situation where if we gave the wrong advice, then you picked R9 270X, then became disillusioned by the level performance it can give and then upgraded later in future

i could argue that with a R9 280X, you can always throttle down perf to power levels of a R9 270X, but thats beside the point as why would you reduce perf level when you have a powerful card at default already.

so recently i quit gpu-bitcoin-mining and RMA-ed 2 of my Gigabyte 7950 cards due to faulty fan.

to my surprise, Gigabyte Malaysia upgraded the gpu itself to a 280x ! (GV-R928XWF3-3GD) and the RMA process is pretty fast too, around 3 weeks as i had to RMA thru Viewnet.

I just read up few page back that MSI Lightning 290x going crazy at RM1299. Damn! That almost the price i paid for my 9 month old MSI TwinFroz 280x which is at RM1199. doh.gif

Hope my card can last another year. Currently playing AC IV also need to tweak out some setting. Not to mention next gen title like Unity, COD AW. Now waiting for my DAI and see how it perform. This mid card only can play mid-high setting nowadays. sweat.gif

Unity optimization is shit, i play on absolute minimum @34fps and max out ultra(FXAA) on 28fps. laugh.gif
No problem with COD:AW unless you go nuts with the AA seting.
I can play DA:I on mix of High-Very High with 60fps average.
FarCry4 on High or Ultra if you can accept fluctuation of 35fps-70fps laugh.gif

I don't understand Ubisoft.. rclxub.gif Low settings, which is meant to give you more FPS but lower stuffs like graphics or render distance etc,but NPCs still a lot.. rclxub.gif

They can't confirm if this is the mid range or the high end Radeon. If it's the "380X", then they probably have another higher end Radeon brows.gif

Please... just 17 FPS extra frame... HBM is 9x faster then DDR5 and is on 20NM ... R9 380X/390X should be 40-50% faster...
