Well, i own a few, but what about you people here? nod.gif

Care to share your experiences with it and also your collection.
Apart from owning the best lighter brand in the world that makes a unmistakable 'click' sound whenever a Zippo is opened, what makes you a happy owner of one or a few? rclxm9.gif

I always keep a Zippo with me in case i need it for any emergency, and of course, just to use it to light other people's cigarrettes. tongue.gif

Oh. Interesting. Seeing the light makes you release stress eh? biggrin.gif

The fluid's about RM10 per can. Quite okay i guess, considering that other lousy branded ones are like RM5 each.

P/S: I'm a non-smoker too. tongue.gif

there's only two Zippo lighters sizes, IIANM.

one is the normal size while the other is the slim version.

yours is the slim version?

I never had a bad experience about Zippo since I used it 6 years back. The only thing is when the Fluid finished.

Burn another RM 10.00 for that Zippo Fluid......

currently only have 2 zippos left... 1 of them over 2 years old and still brand new and unused....

my fav was a rather rare harley davidson zippo that wasnt available even during the time i bought it. antique silver case with the hawk on the side and the wings curving into the main body. still cant find it til now....

Quite easy. Look at the box, the construction and the guarantee paper.
There is no way a fake can reproduce the same 'chink' sound when a Zippo opens, and all fakes do not close properly and as easily as a Zippo (a Zippo makes an assuring 'thud' sound when being closed).

Wow. Ninjiao. That gold one looks amazing. thumbup.gif notworthy.gif

Btw, Zippo users. If a Zippo is fully-fueled, and sometimes it can't be lit no matter how many times you try to light it, what kind of problems would cause this to happen? Because i experienced this quite a lot of times. Makes me think Zippo is not so reliable. sad.gif

Any of you experience this too?

Yalor, happens when u over filled. U fill till it is dripping right??

Normally u just fill till the sponge look wet, a little bit watery can liao.

If over filled, try leave it open for a while, then it should be ok.

added....brand new zippo also won't peform that well.It need some time to season it. So the sponge can hold more fluid.

I don't really know if over-filled. But usually after i fill, when i turn it flat down on the table, the fuel seem to leak out. So i guess it's over-filled. sweat.gif
Thanks for the information. Will try to just add a little bit of fuel in. notworthy.gif

Thanks for the suggestion. Will try this too. thumbup.gif
Well, also, i wonder how long can the wick last when it's black? maybe that is why my lighter is having a hard time to light. ohmy.gif

just look around at shops at shopping complexes. i bought mine from a watch shop in 1Utama. the shop is located under the TGV cinema.
and remember, always ask for best price. the retail prices are usually jacked up.

Well i bought my first Zippo in 2000 and the next one in 2001

so i have 2 Zippo:

1) "Our Century"

The last Zippo Collectible of the century!

Each year of Our Century marks a multitude of milestones for millions of people. 1932 is flanked by stars on the pewter emblem, and set off in bold red on the collector's tin, in recognition of Zippo's founding. With a brand new satin finish and suitably classic emblem, it's ours to celebrate Our Century.

Production of the Our Century commemorative is limited to just 150,000 worldwide. Each comes with a certificate of authenticity and Zippo's lifetime guarantee that "it works or we fix it for free". The Y2K lighter was limited to 100,000 pieces worldwide. The "Our Century" collectible comes in a similar tin as did the Y2K Titanium collectible of the year.

(Photos taken from ebay...i dun have my own pict but its the similar models)

The inside
user posted imageThe box (Front)user posted image
The box (Back)user posted image

And the next one is:

2) "Keeper Of The Flame"

For it's 2000 Collectible of the Year Zippo honored one of the most magical and essential elements known to man...fire. The millennium edition Keeper of the Flame lighter symbolizes respect, power, and control over man's most vital element. Prehistoric man discovered fire, but Zippo has perfected it.
"Keeper of the Flame" is ninth in the series of limited edition Collectibles of the Year. The lighter features a first of its kind, earth-toned, embossed, genuine leather medallion encased in an antique brass frame on a classic brushed chrome lighter. A special bottom stamp and certificate of authenticity validates the lighter as a genuine millennium edition Zippo lighter. The leather stamp that appears on the lighter is graphically reproduced on the round keepsake tin. Because every Zippo lighter is guaranteed for life, you will forever be the Keeper of the Flame.

watch shops normally sell it...normally near Pertama Complex Or Plaza Campbell have lotsa shops tat also sell zippos at cheap price...and u can try to bargain ur price...sumtime its cheaper cuz its old stock cuz they need to clear it...so make sure u survey thoroughly....and btw....u could always view the zippo catalog so u can find the design tat u wants...and then u can go hunt for it...fake one?? i nvr encounter a fake zippo tat looks so real ...either its fake and have a very bad quality or its the real thing...u might wanna learn how to see the manufacturing date under the zippo so tat u can distinguish wether its a fake or not...

If not mistaken, the cheapest Zipppo lighter is at least RM50-60 ba... Last time I saw few Zippo lighters in Bangkok, but unfortunately, I didn't buy it, as my parents followed together, if I bought it, they sure ask this and that...

I have a few as well. Maybe a dozen or more. Will post a picture of my collection once I'm "in-station" next week (outstation now). My latest Zippo is a Sable Zippo Blu.

Bro NINJIAO, that's an impressive looking piece. I believe it's way back from Nov 96. drool.gif

I think the best place to get the fluid is at a shop that actually sells the lighters. Then again there are cases where these vendors do carry fake fluids. unsure.gif

actually, how to differentiate betweeen ori and fake one? I saw 75th Anniversary Zippo at very low price (RM150) and no doubt its a fake.

But physically, it looks just like other ori Zippo.

How to differentiate?

Actually for the 75th anniversary Zippo there are two kinds of lighters. There's the limited Armor version with the Swarovski crystal and then there's there commemorative high polished chrome. The former comes in a collectible box and can fetch up around RM350-RM500 while the latter is around RM140-RM170. If the one you saw has a crystal on it, then it must be a fake, otherwise you might have seen the high polished chrome version of the 75th anniversary. Just my opinion.

I've saw the ori one in box at RM350++ at KOMTAR and also in that commemorative box in Prangin Mall for RM150. Put it side by side, i cant tell the different....

this is mine

http://www.theconnections.com/product_info...products_id=194

bought it from the states.

too many fakes locally, even those selling at those watch shops. hard to tell the difference.

Here are some ways that i've found out:-

Feel the warning wordings on the inside body, must be engraved smoothly.

Check the felt pad, must have lift to fill on it.

the sound, real zippo's have a higher pitch

zippo's are heavy

the datecode engraved is very thin and the only thing you should be able to feel on the bottom is the deep zippo logo.

Its Bradford PA not Bradford RA

BRADFORD.PA. MADE IN U.S.A. - dots must be visible but not thick or big

From the listing on lelong, all Zippo's there are fake.

no matter how good a fake is, its still a fake, they still cant get the logo engraving done properly.

Hi everyone... biggrin.gif

I have 2 zippos just arrived from states today with red sealed. If anyones interested can email me mandrakefx at yahoo dot com or call/sms my hp 013-7619716. Smooth marking at the bottom L 02 and Zippo bradford P.a usa. This is genuine/authentic product which is for Malboro promotion. If not original i will refund you money. Dont worry and peace of mind. Like you all i dont believe that were sold here in m'sia lots of fake which are made in HongKong or China. Why wasting money on fake while you can afford original zippo. If you need more informations about Zippo just visit manufacturer site or youtube just type/search "ZIPPO" or "ZIPPO Fake". Tons of infos there. My selling RM100 each extra RM5 for poslaju. Brass zippo excellent.

Great snap and cling sound from original zippo. Nice playing with Zippo.

u can get fake online in lelong.com.my if u wish to buy it from a shop, then go to sg wang.
original, always look for a watch shop with a zippo display with its logo shown on the display.

All original Zippo always come with Box dan Warranty card

Zippo Box & casing:

P=Plastic (standard collection zippo)
C=Cartoon (standard collection zippo)
T=Tin (Special Collection: Beatles, Jack Daniel, Harley Davidson)
V=Velour Box (Time Lighter Collection)

A= Januari
B= Februari
C= Maret
D= April
E= Mei
F= Juni
G= Juli
H= Agustus
I= September
J= Oktober
K= November
L= Desember

01=2001
02=2002
etc
08= 2008

How to spot a fake? always look for a barcode in the box, and every lighter model will have different barcode for different model.

If a Zippo is fully-fueled, and sometimes it can't be lit no matter how many times you try to light it, what kind of problems would cause this to happen?
*
change your wick.. and if you use the zippo for more then a year you probably need to change the cotton to absorb the liquid better smile.gif

I am sriously amazed... that also got Zippo collector in LY....

this LY is really macam macam ada..

ok, to share my "collection" experince...

i had quite a few Zippo before....
the first Zippo i Still remember is this one... (image pinjam from web)
Attached Image

where it was a "premium gift" when you buy the cigaritees, i think was my college days.. in 94/95 time.... wasn't reallyh paying attention to it as felt using zippo very "YENG" or stylo...

then i also can not remember this one I gave to my fren or lost it or some how....
then i also had some experince of having a few marlboro zippo later....

what I remember there was one Zippo lighter, where I am using, one of the fren was pastering me to give to her as a birthday present....... sigh... gave to her lor..... now think of it I really "AM TAM".....

well, then when I was traveling some place (where I can not remember) came across a HarleyDavidson 90th years anni collection (where I start to collect because of this)

only collected few where I really like it... sharing the pic with you below...
i think I don really take it seriously....

I had quite a few regular Zippos, like, Solid Brass, Silver Brass, Steel, Copper, Classic... all of them a Missing in Action... ethier in disco or pub...

now only left with these that I show you below..
at one stage I was thinking selling off the ZAKUs Zippo that I bougfht in Japan when I visited Japan in 2004...

well, thanks for reading....

ooh one more, I have this wooden Zippo, my fren that work for Watch Shop mentioned to me that is a very rare Zippo, it is true??

Hey Guys,

I Need help in identifying if the Zippo I got was original. Sorry I cant put up pics cause no Camera..

I got this from Pranging Mall in Penang for RM90.

http://www.zippocasemuseum.com/index.aspx?...=productdetails

The model is 1618ZB.

The box came with a paper insert with the zippo lifetime guarantee ( This isn't hard to fake so I am not sure about it) , there's no orange security seal. The lighter was displayed inside a case. I have not seen how the security seal but my guess is that its for lighters still in a box and not on display.. Am I right on this? The black box i received has a barcode on it with the 1618ZB (Once again not hard to fake.. Barcode Printers cost between RM2K-3K anyways)

The bottom engraving on the case display shows D 2006 but the lighter metal insert shows it was made in K 2005.. I am not sure if this are meant to match... When I run my finger over the bottom engraving, i can only feel the Zippo. The one thing i find strange is the bottom engraving can only be read correctly if i place the front design of the lighter facing face down on the table. Some of the stuff i find on the net seems to show the engraving should be read correctly if the lighter is placed with the front design face up on the table.

The side with the hinge has 2 small dimples so that should be ok. I cant tell anything about the sound cause I dont know any better... Seeing and hearing stuff on the net aint a replacement for experience.. But it does sound fairly nice.. I cant tell if the Slims have a slightly different sound that the standard size zippos.

I might get me a fake zippo at feringgi just to test it out though..

Thanks and regards.
Ian

Hi Guys,

Here's the current Lighter i'm using..

user posted image

Got this engraved by a shop with my nick on it. Costed me RM35 if i'm not mistaken.

user posted image

This is my 6th or 7th Zippo, and i chose this as it eliminates the odour and totally no leakage which i've been facing for the past 8 years of using Zippo Lighters.

This model is actually for Cigars, but i just love to be different.. haha..

the zippo premium cost RM7.50, consider ok lah!

Added on October 31, 2009, 5:35 pmactually got few way to distinguish the fake n real zippo as i know, coz i got it both, now i want to share with other here, usually the out case n the insert manufacturer date is different b'coz of separate made, so if u discover the date different is normal!

the insert
1)rivet is white color, usually the fake 1 is yellow made by brass
2)the below insert case not flat, c carefully u will discover few mm is dent in, the fake is just flat
3)the cam is dark color, the fake is bright.

the out case
1)the hinges is 5 part n it not equal, 1,3,5 is small, 2,4 is big size, the fake is equal
2)the below word of BRADFORD,PA. not BRADFORD.PA.

n the sound opening the lighter also nice with 'thing' the fake is just like 'chak' hope this help u all!

ANYONE WHO WANT TO SELL ZIPPO TO ME

Hiya! I've been collecting Zippo's since after school. Before this I used to get Zippo's from watch shops around KL/Selangor, 2nd hand shops (used to have a Zippo used and repair shop in Campbell), flea markets (on Sundays at Amcorp Mall-nowadays not so easy to get!) and whenever I have to travel overseas for work.

When it comes to pricings and originality, based on personal experience I can assure you that all of those watch shops that sells Zippo's or even the one at Central Market (the gift outlet) would definitely be overpriced by 50%-80% from the original listed price. All these dealers are given a list of standard retail recommended price from their supplier for each design or series of Zippo that they supply, just like any regular retail business. Furthermore, most of them dont keep the original models box. I have yet to meet or known of any of these Zippo dealers selling according to the recommended retail price as well as ensuring that each model comes with the original box...Except for one (in KL & Selangor)...other than that I dont pretend to know such!

I recommend you to go to K.S Gill at Jalan Tunku Abdul Rahman. Its main business is stationary supplier but they do repairs and sell vintage lighters as well as Zippo. In fact they have quite a large range of Zippo designs and series. However, these designs/series are quite fast moving as I notice a lot of 'old timers' collectors goes there to purchase. Example, one of my favourite Zippo collectibles are Mazzi's. I'll attach here of one of my Zippo Mazzi's that I have. You can go to any shops or dealers of Zippo in the whole of Klang Valley, look for this design and the price. The price range from RM170.00 (if your lucky!) to RM249.00 (this price is at a watch shop 1st Floor at Sg Wang Plaza). How much did I bought it at KS Gill? Lets just say the price listed (before discount) is RM141.50. Whats the discount %? Somewhere around 15%-20% - if you buy only one (1)! If more that one....why dont you check out yourself. Anyway, I got the Mazzi illustrated box with the lighter

Its quite saddening that most of these dealers or shop selling Zippo's are 'robbing' customers (us) in broad daylight (way of expression...hehe). That is the reason, why even if you buy a used Zippo, it may not be a reflection of true value...unless its one of those rare findings one like the second pic I attach here (hehe...show off a bit.

I recommend you to look for a particular Zippo design/series browse at as many places that sells Zippo, then go to KS Gill and see for yourself. Oh..maybe its best you go to KS Gill first (dont rush to buy), see the design that you like then go around price checking at other shops or Zippo dealers. Well, the thing is the Zippo stocks in KS Gill are quite fast moving (I mean they replenish their stocks every 2 months) and their best sellers there seems to be Mazzi's, Guy Harveys, Tattoo Art, Harley Davidsons, Replica's and Music series.

The person to contact would be Mr Manjeet. 03-2693 6902 / 012-2007431

I've been buying Zippo's from him since the past 4 years. Well, if you are a serious collector like me, he would be able to source series or designs that are not made available to South Asia market. Ofcourse, for that services the price would be totally different.

Best of luck in your Zippo search.

Hiya! Anyway, just to share with you guys about Zippo Bottomz Up. It seems to be quite an attraction these days especially due to its distinctive one of a kind Zippo design. Personally, I think that the Bottomz Up will be a temporary hype..yet, its great to have atleast one as part of the collection.

Anyway, the price is relatively low compare to other Zippo range that I collect. The listed retail price for Malaysia is only RM132.00 (before discount). Make sure when you purchase the Bottomz Up it comes with its original box. Its slightly bigger than most Zippo boxes, with the Bottomz Up words inscribe.

Anyone with great tips or insights about Zippo collecting, I'd like to hear more of it.

Ciao!

Hi Guys.

Finally I found the Zippo lovers. I had a couple of limited editions and rare Zippo that i'd collected over the years. I'm current looking for a new owner that can appreciate them.

1. 65th Anniversary Commemorative Zippo (1997)
Special anniversary limited with special bottom stamp.
13 years old, never been used.
Comes complete with original tin-box.

2. Our Century (2000)
Limited to only 150,000 world wide.
11 years old, never been used.
Comes complete with original tin-box.

3. Rare Harley Davidson Zippo (1993)
Used but still in excellent condition.
17 years old.
Comes with small tin-box with HD logo in front.

Note: The tin-boxes are rusted, as age takes its toll but the Zippos are all brand new looking.

Price are negotiable. Please call/sms me at 016-9951718 or email/pm me . Thanks.

65th Anniversary = RM550
Our century and Harley Davidson = RM400 each

But if you are interested to take all, will let go at RM1000.00 for all three.

i have two bottles of zippo fluid..

my question is what is the difference between these two ? one is written as 'contents: light petroleum distillate' and another one is 'contents: synthetic isoparaffinic hydrocarbon'

both smell different.

hi guys. i suddenly want to buy one lol.

googled around a bit, and one fella [ lost the weblinks 'cause i forgot to bookmark it ] sez that there are 4 types, namely A, B, C and D. anyone can explain what those are for? any difference in quality, or the nice sound it makes when you flick it open with any of those that got the A, B, C or D markings?

damn i like the Gudang Garam one as i can only inhale ori Gudang Garam 16's [ and Dji Sam su, both the thick - ended rolled ones and the Dji Sam Su Gold lol ]!

I believe the ABCD lettering you're referring to is the letter engraved at the bottom of the lighter. It's not the grade, but actually the month in which the lighter is manufactured.

It runs from A to L, A being January and L being December. You'll see it on the left side of the lighter's bottom. On the right side, there'll be two number, which is the last two digits of the year the lighter was made.

So if you see a Zippo with any alphabet after L, it's a fake.

How's the black ice's sound? Comparable to brass or just like painted finishing sound?

Anyone knows where to buy Japan Zippo in Malaysia?

sweet black ice you got there smile.gif

always love these lighters... especially the lifetime warranty biggrin.gif

anyway... if there is an answer...

I got a question about my lighter.

the lighter will not spark at all.
new flints were added but it only sparks at the beginning and no more sparks after breaking in...
I've heard people say pulling the spring adds a slight pressure and it will work but that's not true.
I've added an extra spring to give it more pressure instead of pulling the spring and that's one of the only way to get it to spark a tiny bit.
by doing that makes the flint wheel hard to turn and it's very annoying to try so hard just to get the wick catch flame.

I suspect the flint wheel causes the problem and not the flint as it is genuine flints from zippo. Plus,fresh wick was also added and primed with zippo genuine fluid but still it is very hard to get the lighter to spark

of course sending to zippo for warranty is painful because I duwanna watch my money fly to the wrong address as I can get them address wrong

Added on August 20, 2010, 4:48 pmI also don't think the flint wheel worn out cuz I bought it like half a month and this problem appears

woah... you added a wick? i doubt that's the issue.
maybe you can try turning the flint upside down...
sometimes it gets stuck. my flint got stuck once and i had to turn it or something because the wheel sorta created a slope which sorta made the tip sharp and sometimes get caught in the wheel

turning the flint upside down just reveals a fresh flat side... once worn in then it'll stop sparking again
wheel does turn....it doesn't get stuck... it's just hard to turn with extra springs added

it's definitely my flint wheel problem...
tested with some other lighters with the same flint it does spark pretty well... just on mine it doesn't

I have a Zippo that I got from my army friend who served for Malaysian batalion during Bosnia war. Normally Zippo manufactured in Bradford, but this one is Niagara Falls, have NATO symbol and MALBATT (Malaysian Batalion) on it. Since I think I would rather sell it to Zippo lover than keep it, please reply if you are interested. I will send the picture later.

i was refering to zippos, but i guess those other fueled lighters must declare or something, and must never have it carry on board.

buy bulk from zippo and you'll get them cheap plus free shipping. since you're gonna sell them

if not go to some watchshop,they sell them starting from RM65

and for the check in zippo,wrap your zippo in present paper and tell them that it's a gift for my friend.
but of course must also have other gifts along too.

just a suggestion so don't come to me and complain notworthy.gif

Buying zippo should be no problem , dont use it after u buy, put it in the original casing and put in the luggage.

It should be ok , bought a few from outside , should be no problem

Hi guys,

I'm relatively new to the zippo world and i've already amassed 4 of this fantastic wonders.

I'm fueling 2, while another 2 is still new and 'untouched' in my drawer! biggrin.gif

However, i do notice one problem.

After using the zippo about 1 to 1.5 months, the flint wheel will become slightly loose, and will make it hard to light the fire.

I've tried brushing the wheel - it helps a little, but after a while, i ended up using pliers to 'kepit' the wheel back securely.

I use original wicks, flints and fuel, and i can't figure out why it wears down so quickly.

I'm a heavy smoker, about 1 pack a day, and often play zippo tricks, but the flint wheel quality can't be that bad right?

Very sakit if every 1.5 month have to change to new zippo...

Any solutions or expert advice?
Thanks...

Unfortunately bro .... had the same experience with you but mine after more than a couple of months.

What I do?

As I collect a lot of zippo, I just replace the insert with a new one .. I know it is not the best solution .... but just to lazy to repair it ...

or try to send it to Zippo to repair...

maybe someone have other opinion ....

I recommend you to go to K.S. Gill at 325, Jalan Tunku Abdul Rahman.

The person to contact would be Mr Manjeet.  03-2693 6902 / 012-2007431.

I've been buying Zippo's from him since the past 4 years. Well, if you are a serious collector like me, he would be able to source series or designs that are not made available to South Asia market.
Thank you to Rowan_Zip for recommending Manjeet @ K.S.Gill's. I called Manjeet a couple of times prior to our meeting and finally met Manjeet yesterday.

This post intends to publicly commend Manjeet for the excellent customer service provided to me throughout this week. I have never before posted on a forum like this on an entirely unsolicited basis. However, in this case I was so impressed by the support and service provide by Manjeet that I felt compelled to go on record with my praise. Manjeet truly deserves it. In an era where exceptional one-to-one customer service excellence has virtually vanished into thin air, the work that Manjeet does should be held up as an example for others to try to emulate.

Nah, my seller always labels it as "hobby supplies", so yup, no problem at all. Around RM60, per Zippo, plus shipping, sometimes even less!! icon_rolleyes.gif

I went to the one in Midvalley (Kamalah Tobacco). Limited choices to choose from, and unfriendly staffs seem to be annoying in my opinion. I'll be buying one soon, any accessories should I get together with the Zippo?

I had search from lelong dot com and only lighter can be found. Besides of buy from amazon/ebay, anyone know where can I buy it around KL? or any websites? Thanks!

all u hv to do is u shud put more cottonball into the insert, by doing that ur zippo will hold more fluid.
mine, i need to refuel every once a week.
try not to light ur lighter very often & the best thing to do is to reduce smoking (..which i fail to do..hehe)

Thanks to u guys n posts here I finally went to KSGill n met manjeet to repair my zippos (3 first). Yeah, service is good n he definitely knows what he's doing, n knows zippos VERY well... Good to know still got "craftsmen" repairing zippos inside n out, like watching "kings of restoration", hehe

Got fluid prob, hinge bent, not lighting up, piece inside broken etc etc But all fixed while waiting. Gonna send the ones I inherited from my late dad next, was an old skool lighter collector. Got 50s n 70s zippos among it so iknow it'll be handled by good hands

This is great thread rclxms.gif

Hollywood movie influence me to own a Zippo. Its looked cool and its feel cool.. cool2.gif

Been using Zippo since high-school back in 1997 ( yup you got it right, one of so called badboy who already smoking before reach 18 tongue.gif ) Still using zippo till now and would definitely using it for many years to come (kalau panjang umur)
So far only used the high end polish crome, looks good, the 'ting!' sound good and most of all affordable..haha

Love to learn and do skill, the reason why i have many broken zippo cry.gif . Buy a new zippo almost once every 2 years.

For you guys who own a zippo.. You guys cool.. thumbup.gif

I doubt they cover that bro.

Hey guys. Hope you all have been well throughout the pandemic and lockdowns with your Zippos.

Just realised that back in year 2020, Zippo had released official Butane Inserts that fit into a regular Zippo case!

Anyone using it yet?
Looking to hunt for one soon for myself too. 😊
