for recognition, u should check with BQSM not RISM. BQSM is under the government, RISM is a private body.

architecture will not be possible, however for civil, i'm not quite sure. civil is more on technical side, but qsing is more on costing and contract.

for building material quantity, we calculate using area(m2) or volume(m3). for costing, just use simple calculation that u learn during primary school, u dont use complex mathematical formula to get the cost. the important thing is, your knowledge in building construction, how the thing is done on site. for example, if u dont know how reinforcement bar is tied, or how tiles are laid, how u are going to measure the quantity? or how u are going to calculate the cost of tiling? for civil, i'm not sure, but i think it should be something like what u learn in secondary school physics. if u really want to do something related with math, i dont think quantity surveying or civil engineering is suitable for u since these two are more related to construction rather than math.

yes, the more u know, the better. so that u can select or propose the most cost efficient materials with the required quality or function. if u're not aware, quantity surveyor is also known as cost engineer. u might learn this in uni too depending on your course structure. but dont worry, u will learn more when u started to work.

yes, that's why u need to sit for exams to become a registered qs. only registered qs can start their own consultancy firm.

as far as i know, sr and registered qs are not the same. u get sr. from RISM, and registered qs from BQSM. if u want to start your own professional practice, u need to become a registered qs. it takes at least 3 years, submit your logbook, then go for professional exam and interview. sr title is not so important, u can get it later. the main focus is to become a registered qs under BQSM, then u will be given a 'cap mohor' with your name and serial no. on it. this is what i know. as u can see, i'm working with the contractor, because i dont have any intention to start my practice. basically, i have given up my professional career. if u want to run your own professional practice, u need to work in qs consultancy firm, but not contractors or developers.

can, but harder, u need to take special routes. because u need to be under the guidance of a chartered surveyor, he or she will sign your logbook.

i am with a contractor, one year i filled my logbook and then when i submitted the book the woman from ISM called me and scolded me about all sorts of things

she said i did something wrong, because i submitted the projects that my supervisor wasn't the consultant for, i told her i didn't know he had to be the consultant for that project and she said i'm a liar. why would i waste my time doing something that isn't right??

and then she said 'i don't know which school you come from, don't know what calendar month is'. apparently she thinks that calendar months and working days is the same. how can it be the same, i work on saturday so i fill the log book, so calendar months cannot be the same with everyone's working days. some people work overtime, how?

she scolded me about all sorts of things, i don't even know why she was so angry, i just graduated the year before and as a senior and a professional her behaviour was so inappropriate

anyway she was very rude etc so i realized that i cannot get sr as long as i work with contractor. i was so fedup with her and wanted to write to the newspaper hahaha but i didn't just IN CASE i want to do sr again blink.gif
