hi everyone... i plan to get a gtx970 just wanna ask can old mobo with oni pci e 1.0 handle this card ar? i saw some website did test with that and they said oni a little performance drop..so wanna make sure from u guys (the pro) ...if really cannot support what mobo will u all suggest? (cheapest available la) hehe

PCIE2.0 is a little performance drop, PCIE1.0 certainly much more than that.

Also, I pretty certain that if your mobo only PCIE1.0, your CPU are certainly much dated and will bottleneck the GTX970...

hmmm..since u talk about cpu i oso go check online..currently using old i5-2400...some say wnt bottleneck some say depend on game.. im confuse

There shall be some bottleneck due to the dated CPU.

The "futureproof" I mean is getting a quad core 8 threads processor, so it is more suitable for demanding games and badly optimised console ports. The price start at RM800 (before Intel price hike which I saw at Kopitiam) for Xeon all the way up to unlocked devil canyon i7 or even Haswell-E.

Cukup makan mean the cheapest i5 (4460), and bundle it with a B85/H97 mobo with PCIE 3.0.

To last 3 years and above, it is hard to say, especially for GPU. Lots of new techs are around the corner, each promising revolutionary improvement over current gen, LOL...

Since it is actually PCIE 2.0 and i5, there will still be some bottleneck, but should still be useable.

May be you can hold the upgrade for CPU and mobo till next year after Intel Skylake and DDR4 hit the mass market.

cukup makan also nearly 1k budget dy...really have to hold first..slow slow part by part upgrade..

currently it only applies for Asus card.

Don't have any plan on messing with the oc yet , stock clock speed seems fine at the moment.

unless you play Battlefield 4, Watch Dogs, Assassin's Creed Unity, you dont really need the latest up to date CPU

Even my shitty i7 2600k doesnt seems to be using much usage when playing new games . I just don't see the point upgrading to newer cpu unless doing video editting , compression and any other cpu intensive apps

comparing Sandy to Haswell perf in video rendering, its like improvement of couple of seconds only

"Tahan" is a subjective word. An 8800GT can still play Dragon Age Inquisition at 720p with all settings at low and some simple tweaks to the .ini/.cfg files.


Wait for Skylake then, your CPU isn't actually bad at all. Even if Skylake turns out to be another boring Ivy Bridge to Haswell transition, at least you still have a relatively powerful card when Skylake releases.


Whoa there. You do not call Sandy Bridge shitty bro. That's like the last CPU architecture that Intel made before going into all the cost cutting bs and PR nonsense.

If only Intel isn't so intent on milking customers (I'm exaggerating here of course) by releasing new sockets at every architecture (there's nothing wrong 1155 pins), I'd still take a 2600k/2700k and slap that into a Z97 board, overclock the bejesus out of it and be a very happy PC user.
Of course, that changes how Z97 boards would have been built too (less cost cutting, better VRM designs).
