-should i buy android tv box or just tv with smart function?
-if i should buy android tv box, which one i should buy for xbmc? i got kewell but its not supported due its android 2.2
-if i should buy smart tv, is there 46'/50' smart tv around rm1800?
thanks
smart tvs are just internet connectible giving u browser and maybe youtube, i believe, little else. an android box will do a lot more.
current android is 4.3, 4.2 will do. 2.2 is obsolete, no?
46"tv... probably more like 2.5-3k. 40-42 can get <2k, i think.
i agree with root that if u hv the budget and time, htpc will work very well, esp for xbmc and browser based streaming.
however, if u want a bit of chinese, a bit of korean, a bit of sports, a bit of natgeo/discovery, a bit of cnn/bloomberg, some live, some on demand, it's hard to get a box that does all of that well. more so if looking for hd. my only suggestion is u read all the threads/posts of people selling diff kinds of boxes and sticks, some tied to paid subscriptions. then make the best sense out of them see if the choice will suit u as everyone has diff tastes and wants. i can count there r at least 6 brands of androidtv boxes for sale in lyn. do not forget as firmware upgrades come along, u need the support and service too.
xbmc is free and good overall for a variety of stuff. esp good for hollywood movies and tv series on demand. not so good for live tv, poor in asian content.
in addition, a lot has to do with broadband speed and stability. i doubt one can stream too much smoothly in hd on say 2-3mbps speed.
one thing i keep in mind... as people dump terrestrial, cable, satellite tv, even torrenting to go for iptv/online streaming, the traffic will grow, more incentive for gomens and enterprises to block the free ones and charge for them. so, perhaps can expect certain legally forced changes in the near future.
