I made an NFS server on my download server to stream movies to my NFS enabled media players. I tested it with normal SMB, had issues with buffering. Which in your words...drove me mad too. NFS is better with large file streaming. Wirelessly and wired. I have some players that are wirelessly connected and a couple of tablets for movie streaming.
*
wifi - i played with samba/smb and nfs too. never got to nfs as there was no need in the end.

for older media players, smb works fine for flac, mp4, mkv up to 720p dts. can't handle 1080p dts.

older androids, smb works up to 1080p dts. can't handle iso/bdmv/dtshdma - those 30-50gb folders.

my latest android 4.4, everything works on samba.

having said the above, i am not sure if the wireless router made a diff as i changed router recently.

After reading the above posts, I called TM (1-300-88-1221), talked to the Sales person, and upgraded my VIP5 to VIP10 at RM179/month, without any Hypp package. Heck, my wife had given the Hypp TV set top box to her friend, and we don't watch Hypp TV at all.
As for the TM/Dlink modem, I had been waiting for it to give problem and have the excuse to get a better one. but somehow, it never missed a bit for the last 4 years. It works fine in streaming 1080p HDMA and TrueHD movies from the NAS.
*
nice upgrade, everything will now be twice as fast! thumbup.gif

i had my hypptvbox in the drawer for >3 yrs... becos i paid rm199 w/o pack.
after 5 calls and 1 month of haggling with unifi (after reading others paying 169, 179), i finally got megapack.
to be fair, the current megapack is reasonable with a few decent hd channels, so i started to use it again.

my orig dlink router is >3 yrs old, still working. but i had replaced it with an asus which gives stronger wifi and more stable ethernet.
it's good to know u had orig dlink router working with dtshdma/ddtruehd - can keep it as backup for just-in-case.
my orig modem kaput a few months back, had it replaced foc.

My TM/DLink router is on the first floor, and I have lan cables connecting it to another router on the ground floor. All htpcs are connected by lan cable, wireless lan only for the few tablets and mobile phones, present speed is more than adequate.

And no point for me to upgrade to Gigabit router at the moment because the NAS (Raspberry Pi) is not Gigabit-enabled. So as I said, I will consider a new router only when the present TM/DLink goes kaput.
*
i see....

all lan cabling is the best, no doubt.

video streaming via wifi - a lot more challenging!

thread title need to be changed to kodi soon!

if u r still on xbmc frodo or xbmc gotham, consider moving to kodi helix. kodi is the new name of the app, xbmc will disappear.
latest version is kodi 14.0 beta2 helix. i m now using it.

find kodi 14.0 beta2 helix here:
http://kodi.tv/download/

a great new app applicable to kodi only is this bbts.
u gotta love >1500 live tv and radio stations!
mostly sd, some 720p 2.0.
best of all, the message of this bbts addon is "this is a free list; if you paid for it, get a full refund from your seller"!!
includes news, entertainment, uk, usa tv, natgeo people, starworld, etc., etc. all live. thumbup.gif
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DDNUm12VgJQ

so, i say:
kodi (formerly xbmc) is the mother of all apps.
mashup is the mother of all addons.
bbts is the mother of all live tv.

I would say, throw in also the XBMCtorrent addon to stream movies from torrent (just like how Popcorn Time does it), Kodi is really a complete media center now.
*
great that u like it! biggrin.gif

i wanted to see how that utorrent work in kodi, but can't get the program addon - message always fail to install at 9x%. will try again.

curious... what is it like? how is selection of torrent done, what sites, stream it like popcorn?

The XBMCtorrent addon can be grabbed from here https://github.com/steeve/xbmctorrent/relea...rrent-0.6.4.zip

Once the addon is launched, you will first choose from a list of providers, like YIFY, KickAssTorrent, then proceed to browse the movies from there.

You can also configure the addon so that the movie downloaded will not be deleted after you watched, in case you want to save it.
By the way, Mashup has been closed down now sad.gif
*
Thanks for link.
Tried that, got it installed, can see how it works, can see all the torrents.
But all of the received error failed script XBMC torrent when tried to play.

Can you advise if there is any setting I need to do?
I just tried it with defaults.

Or perhaps some update is awaited, like I see some addons failed script initially but became ok with updates later....?

If it works, wow!!

Mashup... Yes closed n goodbye. sad.gif but.... Having seen some saying goodbye and coming back weeks later, we shud b optimistic! Maybe it will comeback as MessUp. biggrin.gif

So does bbts have EPL football?

i never understood this epl which many people ask about...
is epl a tv channel by itself?
or is it a soccer game telecast, over which tv channel(s) in uk or which country in europe?
xbmc/kodi addons and even iptv's go by tv channel names only.
i know there are sky sports, bt sports, eurosports, fox sports channels, a dozen uk tv channels, a dozen italian tv channels, etc.
but no idea where epl or champions league, etc. will be in...

QUOTE(ctvtec @ Nov 14 2014, 02:54 PM)
Eh, that is weird. I use OpenELEC on Rasperry PI, and able to play all the movies. The only setting I have configured is the download folder location, where the movies will be saved and I also disabled the auto-delete.

May be the script failure is caused by insufficient disk space of the default location, if the setting above is not set. (just guessing)
The only failed script error I received before is when trying to show the list which contains movie "Autómata" due to its funny character in the movie title.
It is now fixed using the steps from http://www.iwillfolo.com/2014/11/quick-fix...-tv-shows-list/
Other than this, all the movie playback works fine without error, be it 1080p/AC3/DTS format.
*
ok, i will try reconfiguring the path, thanks.

can't remember... but i think azdrama is in superrepo. check around, google, etc.

i hope as a new user u do not feel others r not helping u.
as a 1 yr old user, i find that i don't remember which addon or plugin is from which repo! blush.gif
all i do is keep a copy of the folder of addons and setup each time i add or change something so that i can copy n paste later if i need.
now with xbmc, spmc, kodi, that becomes more necessary than ever...

hooray, got it! rclxm9.gif

that link was the first key. editing the urls.py is required. and ya, thanks to antonio banderas' automata!!

and change it into: items[key] = quote_plus((val).encode('utf-8'))

http://www.iwillfolo.com/2014/11/quick-fix...-tv-shows-list/

second key may not apply to u and others on xbmc. but if on kodi, u need to change under configure/advanced org.xbmc.xbmc to org.xbmc.kodi as that is the folder for correct identification.

as for path, my 16gb emmc android is handy, can take up to 5gb files, no need to go ext hdd/usb. i notice the proposed torrents are mostly <1gb with a few 4-5gb dd/dts5.1. i suppose they know >5gb, it will require >694KBps or >5.55 mbps speed on average dedicated to it.

and yes, it works like popcorn time, only with a more varied selection of sites and torrents.

long live TORR! tongue.gif

one more thing to do for kodi on androids, edit another file:

chokia, no worry. To be frank, with the bbts shared by AVFAN and the torrent addon, you will not miss anything even without mashup.

I would say, they are even much better than mashup
*
righto!

with bbts live and xbmctorrent, addons like 1channel, icefilms, yify, istream become somewhat redundant...
mashup may hv gone but those two new more than compensate. wink.gif

Followed the bbts tutorial from the youtube, working halfway without any channels appeared

*
it takes up to a minute the first time to load the channels.

thereafter, every time u start kodi, it takes 30 secs or so to load.

also, use the long string ending with /bbtspvr.m3u rather than the short one.

try again, give it time to load when u start up.

Hi, may i ask how/where to do the editing for this "urls.py" ? Whatever links i click will only get this "script failed" message

Need help also to install kodi in my q5ii, can't play any movie, crashed everytime although i have turn off mediacodec acceleration. Same setting using xbmc gotham 13.2 but working fine
*
to edit anything, u need es file explorer on yr device as file manager can only read, can't see hidden files or edit. get es file explorer in playstore - it is one very impt app u must must hv on android. then click on tools, "show hidden files".

to edit that file after u open es file explorer, path:
home/android/data/org.xmbc.kodi/.kodi/addons/plugin.video.xbmctorrent/resources/site-packages/xbmcswift2/urls.py
open with editor, use remote control menu button to activate edit function, then edit and save.

it is easy if u know; confusing if u hv never used android or es file explorer. required use of both remote and mouse plus diff with pc mouse makes it tough for new users. so, practice, get used to it!

q5ii... kodi does work, no problem. u hv may installed a corrupted version or the migrated folder is corrupted. try again. remember to save a copy of .kodi or .xbmc folder on usb drive using file explorer. if not, it is a nightmare to reinstall all those repos, addons and plugins.
but... i fear q5ii may not be able to take xbmctorrent. i tried that, see my next post. but bbts livetv will work.

QUOTE(powerwoot @ Nov 16 2014, 10:51 AM)
just a second or few, then we'll have the display. Don't really know if that is normal.
*
it is normal, it will load everytime u open kodi. if wifi, it may take up to a full minute.

oh no. I feel blessed with guys like u. I've searched many times before but as usual 1 leads to another that has no real point of direction. sorry for being noob, how to search in superrepo? download superrepo first?  I also keep records for every file that I can get to. i'm trying out then only get an android player with digital output (important for me). thanks for helping.
*
i hv to say i dont know anymore.... as these repos get outdated, changed. dont even know where to find it again if i need to. i have it because it is in my "always saved copy" of org.xbmc.kodi (or org.xbmc.xbmc.). try googling or perhaps some kind samaritan can post the link for you. if u have the link, can dwnld the link direct with xbmc like fusion. otherwise install via zip file in usb.
if buying android, pls buy from a seller who can help u with or preinstall all these apps/addons.plugins. w/o help, it is tough. xbmc/kodi can be a b**** for starters!

bro ctvtec,

i must thank you again for posting the above as it got me spending hours on xbmctorrent - testing, trying to understand how it works, why the script failures, any solution, reading a hundred posts in kodi forum! tongue.gif

let me share my findings with those who have not got xbmctorrent working or got it working but yet to play a full length tv episode or movie.

Release - XBMCtorrent v0.6.4: torrent streaming for XBMC
This addon is discontinued.

http://forum.kodi.tv/showthread.php?tid=174736

since late 2013, steeve the developer has left it incomplete with bugs, unfinished biz. he has moved on to do pulsar which is a similar but closed app, can't edit like xbmctorrent. we can guess this is becos he feels the heat from the legal side, need to drop it and go do something similar but will not land him in jail.

thousands of users feel frustrated becos it is such a great addon. but it is probably becos it has so much potential that it pose some great risks to steeve. maybe more so for the power n $ people who simply won't let it be born normal, for now. there is a fork called "stream" which is a also an addon to xbmc but it doesn't work for me.

after reading 65 pages of this kodi forum, some of which pertain to xbmctorrent, i will highlight this major problem bugging many users:

sasagr Wrote:
Here my experience/issues with this great addon.
I have XBMC on my Mac and on my RPi with Openelec 14. In both cases last Gotham official release as of today.
In my RPi I m using a card with 32 Gb.
Well yesterday I tried for the very first time to play a movie from the beginning to the end but suddenly at about 13% of the download, about 10-13 min of the movie, it stopped. I tried and tried again and I realized that when it reaches about the 13% of the download the down speed slow down from 1200 or higher to about 10-15Kbps making no progress in the download so obviously when the movie reaches that point there is nothing else to play and it stops.
I checked the location where the movie by default is pre-allocated and I saw that the file is there and it shows 1.9 Gb (pre-allocation I guess since the movie is not completed downloaded).
I m not quite sure that the fact that it shows a preallocated file of 1.9Gb it really means that there is space enough. Maybe the partition created by openelec in my root is not big enough and I should try to expand it. I really do not know.
I tried to add an USB pen drive with 16Gb and located my download there but it seems that it is not enough fast because the download speed does not go up and it stays very low at around 20-30 Kbps.
I also tried to reduce the download speed to 800 Kbps in the setting but the results are the same.
Of course I did similar test with my Mac and it goes very well no issues... it goes after the 13% in a short time and it does not seem that it will stop...
Do you have similar issues? Do you have any suggestion?
thanks to advise
Salvatore
http://forum.kodi.tv/showthread.php?tid=174736&page=47

it is the same experience i had with my androids. however, kodi forum members seems to say it works fine on mac and rpi. so, those who have tried it, please confirm xbmctorrent works good for u for full length video (not 15mins), what device, anything unusual noticed...

for android, i tried everything i can think of, but there is no simple permanent solution. editing urls.py and torrent2http.py were necessary to fix a couple of scripts failure errors but there are more!! cant find more fixes by googling. quite a shame, really. tongue.gif

at this time, my understanding for xbmctorrent on androids is this:

.. seems to need high internal memory; older androids with smaller internal memory (2-4gb) will have that "play 10-15 min then stop" problem. using ext hdd and path spec won't work. something to do with internal memory partitions, i think. and i suspect this is the same problem why small memory androids (like himedia q5ii) can't stream 1080p from popcorn time, even if u use ext hdd.
.. new androids with emmc 8 or 16gb shud work but... clumsily.
.. wat i noticed: the playback is from the online streaming n not the saved data; the data is captured and saved, yes. here is the problem - once the downloading of the full file is complete, the buffer for playback reduces to zero, so it stops playing. u can specify to keep the video and not delete it upon exit but that only helps in one way - u playback later like any other saved video. which is better than nothing, of course! biggrin.gif
.. becos the streaming buffer stops a couple of minutes after file dwnld is complete, i tried reducing the dwnld speed (can do that in the addon configuration) to match the playback speed. this is tricky as every file is diff in size, broadband speed may not be always stable. i have yet to get great results but so far, 500KBps cap for a 720p 1gb mkv file or 200KBps cap for a 300MB mp4 file seem to get me close. this is, of course, untenable for long term use but at this time, i see no other way but this way or the "playback after all is saved on hdd" way.
.. unlikely there will be good solutions as elvis has left the building, so, that's it...

sorry for the long write up - just something for android users who r planning to try xbmctorrent. good luck! smile.gif

and please share n correct me if i got certain things wrong, tq.

Hi AVFAN,
Sorry I did not know that you have problem running it on Android.
Just for my knowledge, what is your XBMC cache setting? Did you set it to cache to local drive (cachemembuffersize=0)?
If you do, set it non local, e.g. cachemembuffersize=104857600, see if it makes any difference?
Setting the cache to local might give problem, as it is essentially doubling the required space for xbmctorrent.
*
yes, i played with all of them!
buffersize changed from 0 to 100mb, 500mb, 1gb, doesn't work. in fact, it doesn't even start to play. so, back to zero.
i do not think the buffersize is the problem here.
set to local or ext, same result. setting to local is not a problem for my android as it has 6gb available for that.

the only semi-successful way is to tick "save", so the file is saved as it is played, not deleted even at exit.
but the same problem will happen - at the point the whole file is dwnlded and saved, the buffer reduces to zero and finally playback stops.
in this setting, since the file is saved, never mind, just playback like any other saved file.
that allows complete watching but is troublesome to stop halfway, play again. plus, need to manually delete file later.
that's what i do now - a poor solution.

can u confirm that on yr rpi, u can playback all the way from start to finish a 45min or 2hr show w/o "script failure: xbmctorrent"?

Yes AVFAN. I watched the series Super Natural 720P with 5.1 DTS using xbmctorrent on my Minix Neo X-8H. Unifi speed 10Mps.
Running time is 45 minutes, no buffering and no problem. Very smooth.

I just follow the setting that you wrote in your previous post.

If I tick "save" does that mean the file is save to the android memory? And need to be deleted manually. So far I cannot find any big file being saved in my android.

I also run xbmctorrent on my HTPC. Here there is no need to modify any file. Just enable the addon and everything running smoothly.

now, that is good to know. thanks.

so far, you confirmed no script failure for minix android which is not surprising as it comes with customised xbmc/kodi, i believe. howver, i remember reading kodi forum some minix users reported similar problem to other androids. probably got solved now, good for you! and htpc passed too.

i await others to confirm if they can play full length 45min or 2hrs video on xbmctorrent for pc, mac, rpi and other androids.
will be good to pool knowledge for this xbmctorrent as the developer steeve no longer supports it.

if you tick save, it will be save in the path u specify (just above "save" option). can be anywhere in yr android memory or ext hdd.

Try my luck again yesterday nite without edit anything, stream this movie -> Guardian Of The Galaxy in 720p using kickassTorrent, surprisingly the movie start playing after about 10 sec loading, smooth play for 30 mins until it crashed due to internal memory full. And this cause the xbmc app not able to launch again.

For Kodi, latest version 14.0 helix beta3 works perfectly on my q5ii with mediacodec acceleration turn off. But too bad xbmctorrent is down again- "error script failed!:xbmctorrent". Hmm..1 day can 1 day cannot, weird.

so, u got wat i mean! that was what i was trying to explain.

q5ii doesn't have enough memory for this, same problem it has with 1080p in popcorntime.
if u check in settings, assuming u have normal no. of popular apps installed, u r left with 200-500mb - too low.
u shud try this: specify the path to an external hdd, see if u get good results. i didn't with q5ii.
and i think the same will happen to any android with small memory.

q16 with 6gb available can handle it better. but there comes another problem - buffer stops when dwnld completes, as i explained in previous posts.
hence my poor solution - save it, playback saved file when the streaming buffer stops.

Some story about recent mashup
The rest http://www.tvaddons.ag/mashup-xbmc/

Now to the only question left to answer: what addons are good alternatives? It was a combination of different sources and live streams, so we’ll give you a few options that you might enjoy. You’ll want to check out the Genesis, Stream All The Sources, Cliq, and p2p-streams addons;

among the few suggested ones, i say genesis is the best. genesis did not work well in gotham but it does now in kodi. someone mentioned a few pages ago that genesis is related to popcorn time which does appear correct as the display and navigation looks similar. i tried a few old movies and tv series, almost all of them work, some 720p, some sd, can get subs too. can search by title or actor name.

That solution is good but can we do it on multiple movie files? while watching other things?
*
no, can only do one play/save at a time.
but if u mean multiple videos in the sense of saving one by one, of course it will since it is saved, not deleted.
but i wont find that useful since u can torrent them the normal way, get better torrents, multiple dwnlds at one time.

for me, i like xbmctorrent for watching new and on-going tv episodes 720p dd5.1 and "b" grade movies <2gb in size. better stuff, i prefer to watch them some other way.

anyway, with a combination of xbmctorrent (with my poor solution), genesis and popcorn time, my needs for "light" movie/tv series watching are well covered. and bbts livetv is superb, very stable. so... i don't really miss mashup, and hardly go to 1channel, icefilms, yify, dailyflix anymore.

Noobs here, any more detail info how to add source for livestreampro. I got lost .
*
on pc, u copy and save on usb drive that long text file (paste bin link) on a simple text doc and name it anything u wish but as .xml file and in utf8 code. put usb drive into yr device.

then, install livestreampro the usual way if u dun already have it installed: video/addons/get more, assuming u hv the repos...
then, go to system/settings/video addons/enabled addons to find live streampro to configure.
androids: add source/choose file/rootfile system/mnt/sdb to find that .xml file
choose that file ok, click add source. u get prompt to name it, ok.
exit and play the addon like any other.

Hi,
I am using kodi. I copy the long text. Then save as abc.xml. Configure Livestreampro, add source, choose file file abc.xml, then click OK but it did not askme for the source name. And nothing happens.
Any idea.

I think u forget to click add source after choosing the file. It will then ask for name.

One thing.... If u do this way with usb, usb needs to be there when u use that addon. I have now copied the xml onto a folder in internal drive, redo the path, works fine.
