I might not pay 1.5k for XDS though. As H2D said, the frame / joints look more simple and cheap compared to better brands. Then again, I don't feel any flex from the frame joint. My handle bar flexes and squeaks quite a bit.

Subang Jaya SS14 has 2 bike shops. One sells cheaper XDS, Raleigh Ugo, Speedgears. Another Lerun shop has Dahons. You can go and compare the quality and see.

1.5 k, get dahon or tern

below 1k, get XDS with fender/ mudguard

Buy a good one and you'll enjoy the ride, and it will be much easier to sell if you want to later. Buy a cheap one, you may not enjoy the ride and no demand when you want to sell. Only buy a cheap one if you don intend to sell and you only want to ride once in a while maybe.....

I once bought an Aleoca foldie for $300 thinking it will be fun, etc etc. Impossible to cover decent distant, can't go up inclines, I couldn't even sell for $80. Someone offered me $20! I decided to give to my friend's kid.

You are on the right track. Just don't go for the 7 speed ones. They are cheap even for Dahon and Tern because they have the cheap gears and can't upgrade.

Was told by the TaoBao agent that shipping goes by weight.  Be interesting to see if the weight of a thousand LEDs would be similar to a folding bike?
*
Im not shipment by taobao argent , they higher cost , i have my own container from GZ to MAS , not flight shipment but long waiting arrival around 2-3weeks

My take is that if u want a good one, start it out right ...get something more solid according to budget..do easy payment even if u can afford , then it won't be a pain to your budget ...of course stretch to 6 months.

I bought my vigor for 2k ++ but riding it , the ride is quite stiff but very responsive frame to all my cycling and im glad that it doesn't creak or makes any sounds...makes the ride very worthwhile...and man it is very fast.

Think of what riding you want to do first. If you like longer rides, definitely a road bike. But if space to store the bike is tight or want convenience to take bike with you in the car, then maybe foldie. If you just enjoy bikes generally, then you may end up with all different types like me... :-)

Good morning.

I was at the Kuantan Century Ride last Saturday and Sunday. I didn't join the race> Just to accompany my next door neighbor who got 3rd in the Veterans catergpry.

Brought my Boardwalk along. Toured the city while the race was in progress. Full story on my timeline

crankset usually no need to replace, but upgrading from 7-speed to 8/9/10 usually needs more parts to be changed because 7 speed rear sprocket mostly uses freewheel mechanism whereas 8 speed onwards are mostly freehub, that means u need to change:
- shifter
- rear hub
- cassette
- RD
- chain

how did I know? I upgraded from 7 speed to 9 speed rear sprocket and it costs me as much as the bike itself LOL

so yeah, get 8 speed onwards better. Easier to upgrade.

It's true esp if you want better parts. However changing from 7 to 9 speed will only give only a slightly higher top speed but ratios closer together. as most road cassette only go down to 11t. Hence the only solution is to change the chain ring to a larger one.
